Chapter 316 Two Possibilities

Chapter 316 Three Possibilities

Having worked with Margaret for so long, the two of them had been through a lot, but Connor had never revealed a single thing about himself being a member of the Secret Society to Margaret! However, Connor wondered if Margaret had ever suspected his identity. Today, she had told him so much about the Secret Society; could it be that Margaret had guessed his relationship with the Secret Society?

"Sigh..." Connor sighed softly and slowly shook his head. His most pressing concern now was not Margaret, but figuring out who was behind this! If he didn't figure this out, he would be in the open while his enemy remained in the shadows, and they could do whatever they wanted with him. There's no such thing as being able to guard against a thief for a thousand days when you're already a thief yourself.

Only after resolving the immediate crisis could Connor set his mind at ease and figure out what Margaret wanted to tell him. Even if things got to that point, what could Margaret do if she knew he was a member of the secret society? Putting aside the fact that Margaret was so deeply involved with him, Connor simply did not believe that Margaret would dare to report him to the church for practicing forbidden blood magic!

Having made up his mind, Connor carefully erased all traces of the secret hideout, then left the courtyard and discreetly returned to his apartment at 16 Rand Street in the East End.

"Click!"

To avoid attracting attention, Connor took some secluded paths, which took him longer than usual to get back to his apartment. He took out his key from his pocket, put it in the lock, and gently turned it to open the door, returning to his familiar home.

Back in his home, Connor was undoubtedly relaxed. He took off his black cloak and placed it on the hanger. After this ordinary action, Connor, who seemed to have noticed nothing and acted very naturally, suddenly had a murderous glint in his eyes. He immediately gripped the Castiel Staff in his hand. However, just as Connor's eyes were fixed on a seemingly deserted staircase in the apartment lobby, and he was about to unleash a thunderous strike with the Castiel Staff, a slightly tired, aged voice reached his ears.

"Young Master Connor, it's me!"

Upon hearing the familiar voice, Connor, who was about to unleash his mental attack, froze on the spot. Then, the murderous intent in his eyes as he looked at the seemingly deserted staircase quickly turned into disbelief. A second later, under Connor's astonished gaze, a hunched old man appeared on the stairs.

Connor couldn't help but feel a hint of surprise at seeing this old man, whom he had only just seen through the light screen of Margaret's memory bead, appear before him in person so quickly. Regardless of whether Connor Ferguson was still Connor Ferguson, he quickly composed himself and stored the Castilian Staff he was holding back in his spatial ring. Having done all this quickly, a smile returned to Connor's face. He gave the hunched-over old man a polite, slight bow and said:

"Butler Victor, it's a pleasure to see you again! How is Professor Reyes?" To make his acting more realistic, Connor tried his best to make his eyes appear as sincere as possible!

That's right! The seemingly unassuming old man who suddenly appeared in Connor's apartment was none other than Victor, the butler of Reyes of Politano, whom Margaret had just told Connor about in that secret hideout. He had joined forces with two other members of the secret society to attack the secret prison of the Storm Church in Kaiser-Laustenburg and kidnap Reyes, who was related to Connor.

Old Victor seemed unfazed by Connor's enthusiasm. He scrutinized Connor from head to toe before saying indifferently, "Young Master Connor, you're too kind. Professor is very kind!"

After exchanging brief pleasantries with Connor, old Victor gave Connor a deep look, then said meaningfully, "I originally heard that someone wanted to harm Young Master Connor, so I came here to protect him... Now it seems I've gone to unnecessary trouble. Young Master Connor's strength has truly improved rapidly in just over a year!"

"Thank you, Butler Victor!" Ignoring old Victor's tone, Connor thanked him and then said with a wry smile, "Please forgive my rudeness, Butler Victor. I was just attacked by two monsters, so I was a bit startled. I hope you won't take offense! From what you're saying, Butler Victor, do you perhaps know who attacked me?"

"Young Master Connor, how are those two monsters that attacked you doing now?" Hearing Connor utter the word "monsters," old Victor's eyes flickered. He didn't directly address Connor's question, but hesitated for a moment before asking Connor in return:

"Done! Those two monsters, though physically strong and intelligent, didn't know any magic. I easily took them both down with a little trick!" Compared to old Victor's hesitation, Connor gave a bloody answer with ease. As he said this, Connor's eyes secretly glanced at old Victor's hesitant expression, and after a moment's thought, he immediately feigned regret and said:

"Taking down those two monsters wasn't difficult, but I almost failed to capture them alive... If I had captured them alive, I would have known who was behind this!" On the surface, Connor put on a heartbroken expression, but in his heart, he secretly observed the old Victor's expression again.

On the way back, Connor thought a lot. If, as Margaret said, the mysterious organization that ordered the demonized knights to attack him, Pioli, had a cooperative relationship with the Secret Society, then there were only three possibilities for his attack.

The first possibility is that his mentor, Reyes, wanted to eliminate him, and this mysterious organization acted on his orders! The second possibility is that he was caught in a trap; the mysterious organization didn't know he was part of the secret society and attacked him anyway! The third possibility is that someone within the secret society wanted to use this mysterious organization to eliminate him!

While Connor considered the first possibility, he knew the probability was extremely low. Knowing his mentor's methods, Reyes wouldn't need to go to such lengths to kill him! Therefore, after eliminating the first option, only the second and third possibilities remained.
