Chapter 312 Memory Bead
Chapter 312 Memory Bead
"Not bad, Connor, it seems you've made great progress on your path of mental cultivation!" Margaret said meaningfully.
Connor simply shrugged at Margaret's praise and didn't say anything.
A brief silence fell between them. Five minutes later, Margaret looked at Connor with some displeasure and said, "Connor, you can't be too greedy. I just shared the church's internal documents with you!"
A sly smile appeared on his face, and Connor said calmly, "I promise to tell you everything I know about these two people!"
"Alright! You win, I can trade with you!" After a brief moment of thought, Margaret rubbed her forehead and said somewhat helplessly:
Hearing that Margaret had agreed to his request, Connor's lips curled into a smug smile. Not worried that Margaret might change her mind, he proactively took out a sketch of a person from his spatial ring and handed it to Margaret, saying, "This is based on Hector's description of the demonized knight I just interrogated!"
Taking the portrait Connor handed her, Margaret looked at the poorly drawn, rough portrait of a middle-aged man with a strange expression in her eyes. She looked up at Connor, who, noticing her reaction, explained somewhat awkwardly:
"When I was a child, my family tutor taught me some painting techniques, but my painting skills aren't very good now. Please bear with it. Hector has confirmed that this portrait of me is very similar to Pioli's."
"Pioli's method of contacting them is very peculiar. Hector told me that as long as Pioli is in the same city as them, Pioli's voice can appear in their minds. I initially judge that Pioli is not using telepathy, because, for example, Hector said that he and another enchanted knight were hiding in the northern district of Rune, and Pioli contacted them to meet in the southern district. The distance between the two is nearly thirty kilometers. Even a formal wizard's telepathy could not be that exaggerated. Moreover, if this were really telepathy, then your Storm Church would not have been completely unaware of it..."
"And most importantly, I just found this under Hector's skin!" With that, Connor took out a tiny, dark red crystal bead from his spatial ring and tossed it to Margaret.
With a single gesture, Margaret placed the dark red crystal bead steadily in her hand. She examined it carefully for a moment, then frowned slightly and said, "This seems to be some kind of alchemical item?"
"That's right. My initial assessment is that this is an alchemical artifact used for communication. I'll need some more time to figure out the exact function of the beads, but this thing is very likely the real reason why Pioli's voice appeared in Hector's mind from that great distance! The demonized knights have been controlled for so long; there's no technical difficulty in doing this to them!" Connor nodded and analyzed.
After carefully examining the tiny, dark red crystal bead in her own hands, Margaret returned it to Connor.
Connor carefully placed the bead into his spatial ring, pondered for a moment, and said to Margaret, "Compared to Pioli, Giampaolo is quite mysterious. Hector only had contact with him once, but he didn't see what Giampaolo looked like at all, only that he wore a gray robe!"
"Gian Paul is incredibly strong. According to Hector, he and three other enchanted knights, even when facing an opponent they couldn't directly confront, were completely overwhelmed. This person is suspected to be the mastermind behind the Salok Knights. Based on Hector's testimony, I believe that if what Hector said is true, Giampaolo's strength is definitely stronger than a Level 1 wizard; he should be a Level 2 wizard!" Connor's tone became very serious and solemn at this point. His mentor, Reyes, was a Level 2 wizard, and Connor Ferguson knew firsthand just how powerful Level 2 wizards were!
"Very good, Connor, what you dug out of that guy is quite valuable. Now it's my turn. Take a look at this first!" With that, Margaret stretched out her fair and delicate hand and showed Connor a bead in her palm that was about the size of a baby's fist.
"A Recording Bead!" Upon seeing this bead, Connor, as an alchemist, immediately thought of it. A Recording Bead is an alchemical item used by alchemists to preserve and record images. It can be simply understood as a camera on Earth! The method of making a Recording Bead is very complicated, and the main material for refining a Recording Bead, Shadow Sand, is very rare. Therefore, Recording Beads are a very rare alchemical item in the wizarding world. Now that Margaret is showing him a Recording Bead, she is naturally not showing him the Recording Bead itself, but what is stored in the Recording Bead.
Connor's guess was absolutely correct. After showing Connor the recording bead in her hand, Margaret smiled slightly and cast a spell on the recording bead. The recording bead, which had been emitting a restrained light, immediately began to emit bursts of light. The next second, a light screen appeared on the recording bead, showing a middle-aged white man standing and talking with a gray-robed man in front of a building.
As this scene unfolded before his eyes, Connor's face remained impassive, but his heart trembled as he calmed down from the analysis report. Although the clarity of the light screen displayed by the memory bead wasn't very high, Connor, whose memory was quite good, immediately recognized the middle-aged white man on the screen as none other than Bispin, the official wizard of the Secret Society whom he had met once before in the Secret Society's safe house below the port of Sassuolo!
As for the gray-robed man standing next to Bispin, Connor couldn't help but think he looked exactly like Pioli from the sketch he had drawn! Realizing that these two were standing together, it was hard for Connor not to be suspicious. Could it be that Pioli, who ordered Hector and Kovacs to ambush him, was a member of the Secret Society? Was the Secret Society the mastermind behind all of this?
In turning Hector and his gang into demonized knights, this mysterious organization, operating under the guise of the "Salok Knights," does resemble the Secret Society in its methods! But that doesn't make sense. His mentor, Reyes, is the second-in-command of the Secret Society, Professor Bispin definitely knows that. If Pioli is a member of the Secret Society, and everyone is on his side, he seems to have no reason to target him.
