Chapter 307 The Church's Secret Stronghold
"Margaret?" Connor called out, somewhat puzzled, towards the woods to his left.
After the fat humanoid beast was attacked and fell, Connor instantly became alert. Amplified by the silver pendant, his mental power immediately sensed a familiar yet somewhat unfamiliar aura from the woods to his left. Judging from the aura, it was clearly Margaret's. However, what puzzled Connor was that this Margaret's aura was several times stronger than he remembered!
"Connor, looks like you're in trouble!" Before she even appeared, Margaret's languid and alluring voice reached Connor's ears clearly. Then, under Connor's wary gaze, Margaret, wearing a purple cloak and with a half-smile, emerged from the woods and appeared before him.
Looking at Margaret, whom he hadn't seen in a long time, and sensing the undisguised powerful aura emanating from her, Connor's expression turned somewhat bitter. He looked up and said to Margaret with a wry smile, "It's been months since I last saw you. You've truly surprised me. Congratulations on your breakthrough to become an advanced wizard apprentice!"
Hearing Connor's congratulations, Margaret's smile deepened even more. She waved her hand gently at Connor and said, "Let's not talk about that now. Take this guy with you, let's hurry up and go. My colleagues are on their way!"
Connor nodded. Margaret was right. This time and place was clearly not a good place for catching up. The arbitrator of the Wizard Storm Church from the Metropolitan Police Department flew over like a hungry hound, picked up the fat humanoid beast lying on the ground, unconscious with an ice blade piercing its chest, and followed Margaret away.
Trusting Margaret after working together for so long, Connor didn't ask where she was taking him and followed closely behind her. Although he didn't ask, Connor knew that Margaret was probably taking him on a long detour, from the northern suburbs of Loen to the southern suburbs of Loen.
After walking for nearly an hour, perhaps feeling that she had shaken off the "hounds" behind her, Margaret carried the unconscious, fat, beast-like Connor to a very quiet and secluded courtyard in the western countryside.
"Where is this place?" Connor put down the unconscious, fat, humanoid beast and looked around the courtyard he was in. He asked Margaret with some surprise. Although the courtyard he was in looked unremarkable from the outside, like an ordinary family courtyard in Rune, as an alchemist, if Connor was not mistaken, this courtyard was actually quite special. Not to mention, just from the walls and the floor tiles in the courtyard, Connor felt that there were at least three sets of magic arrays set up!
"The church's secret stronghold!" Faced with Connor's question, Margaret made no attempt to hide anything, replying calmly:
Although he had already guessed the outcome, Connor still gave Margaret a deep look without saying a word.
Connor's silence seemed to pique Margaret's interest. After glancing at Connor, she asked with great interest, "Aren't you going to ask me why I brought you here?"
"Emperor Raul once said, 'Since you're here, make the best of it.' Knowing your personality, Margaret, if you want to tell me, you'll tell me even without me asking; if you don't want to tell me, you won't tell me even if I ask..." Connor paused, then shook his head slightly at Margaret, saying, "Besides, the reason we're here is simply because it's hidden in plain sight. Those guys who chased us would never guess that the person they're looking for is currently hiding in the Storm Church's secret stronghold!"
"Papa...!"
Margaret clapped her hands gently, her charming eyes looking at Connor with admiration.
"It seems you've figured me out, Connor..." Margaret sighed softly, looking at Connor. "However, you're only right about one aspect. I brought you here because I have a gift for you!" A sly glint flashed in Margaret's eyes as she said this.
"What gift?" Noticing the cunning in Margaret's eyes, Connor became secretly wary of the gift Margaret was talking about, and asked with a furrowed brow:
"What's the rush? Deal with this guy first. I didn't hold back at all with that ice blade. If you don't interrogate him soon, he might be dead!" Seeing Connor's impatience, Margaret rolled her eyes at him and pointed at the unconscious, fat, humanoid beast, saying:
Connor shook his head with a wry smile. He had been talking to Margaret the whole time and had almost forgotten about the bastard who had tried to trick him!
Connor took out a bottle of dark black potion from his spatial ring, glanced at it with some regret, and then kicked the fat humanoid beast in the wound where the ice blade had pierced through!
"Ahhhhhhh!" The fat humanoid beast, who had fallen into a coma, was immediately awakened by the intense pain and let out a miserable howl like a wild beast. Taking advantage of this opportunity, Connor directly forced the dark black potion in his hand into the dog's mouth.
The fat, humanoid beast twisted its heavy body, instinctively trying to stop Connor's actions, but in its current state, it was obviously futile for Connor. Under Connor's force, not a single drop of the dark medicine entered its body.
After completing this step, a look of relief flashed in Connor's eyes. Just as Margaret had said, the fat humanoid beast whose chest had been pierced by the blood-red ice blade Margaret had used was seriously injured. Without external force, it might not even last an hour before it died completely.
If Connor wanted this guy dead, he wouldn't have carried him here. This guy still has value to Connor. Connor wants to find out from this guy what these two, neither human nor beast, really are! What is their purpose in getting rid of him? Is there a mastermind behind it all? ...So even if this fat humanoid beast is actively seeking death, Connor won't let him die!
The drug Connor just gave this guy was a potent poison. If given to a seriously injured person, the person would have a brief period of lucidity before death, but would surely die after that. However, for Connor, three days was more than enough!
