Chapter 292 Complexity and Bitterness
"Welcome to my safe house!" Connor smiled and shrugged, introducing the place to Varga.
"Connor, you actually built your own safe house?" Varga's beautiful eyes flashed with surprise, seemingly finding it hard to believe that Connor actually owned his own safe house.
"That's right, this is my safe house, but it can't compare to the secret society safe house we took in Sassuolo Port!" Connor shook his head and explained with a smile. He knew very well why Varga found it so incredible.
The secret society's safe house beneath the warehouse in Sassuolo Port not only has defensive magic arrays, but also, due to the use of expensive mind-altering stones in its construction, it can shield against the mental probing of those below the level of a formal wizard. However, due to financial constraints, his safe house can only have simple protective, shielding, and concealment arrays. According to Connor's estimation, it can at most deceive the mental probing of intermediate wizard apprentices. Even if an advanced apprentice were to investigate seriously, his safe house would undoubtedly be discovered!
As Connor recounted his story, Varga used her mental energy to probe the safe house briefly, and a look of sudden realization appeared on her face as she understood the difference between Connor's safe house and the Secret Society's safe house.
Connor clapped his hands lightly, activating a mechanism he had personally set up in the safe house. A hidden staircase immediately appeared on the rough cement floor. Connor smiled and waved to Varga, signaling her to follow him down.
After walking a few steps down the hidden staircase, Connor and Varga found themselves in a basement. The basement was not small, about 100 square meters, but in this huge basement, there was only one square iron cage, two meters in diameter, covered with a black cloth!
Although the iron cage was covered by a black cloth, obscuring the movement inside, a glint of light flashed in Varga's beautiful eyes as she recalled what Connor had told her about the Odin Blood Tiger. She turned to look at Connor, her questioning gaze conveying a clear message, though she didn't speak.
Connor smiled and nodded at Varga, indicating that she had guessed correctly. Then, he stepped forward and, with a thought, cast a spell on the black cloth covering the iron cage. The black cloth instantly shone with a bright light and then, without any wind, detached itself from the iron cage and fell into Connor's hand.
The black cloth flew into Le Connor's hand, and what it hid in the iron cage was naturally exposed to Connor and Varga's eyes. They saw an adorable little tiger, all white except for its blood-red eyes, lying in the iron cage as if asleep. This little tiger was none other than the cub of the Odin Blood Tiger that Connor had gone to great lengths to snatch.
Seeing the adorable little blood tiger appear, even though she was somewhat prepared, Varga's eyes still lit up with surprise. She approached the iron cage and looked at the little tiger with great affection. After observing the little blood tiger for a while, Varga seemed to notice something, hesitated for a moment, and then turned to Connor, saying, "This little guy seems to have been under some kind of spell?"
Hearing Varga's question, Connor showed no surprise. He smiled wryly and said, "I put a mind-control spell on this little guy. Odin's Blood Tiger is extremely intelligent. Don't let its harmless appearance fool you; it's incredibly cunning. When I'm around, it's very obedient, but when I'm not, it's plotting how to escape from this cage. Once, it actually succeeded! If it weren't for the magic array in this safe house, which I carefully designed, and the fact that this little thing is still a cub, it probably would have succeeded!"
"But you don't need to worry. I've carefully controlled the mind-controlling spell I cast on it; it will only put it to sleep and won't affect its mind or consciousness!"
Having received an explanation from Connor, Varga nodded slightly, turned her gaze back to the little blood tiger, and reached her hand into the iron cage to lovingly stroke the sleeping cub.
Feeling the maternal glow in Varga's eyes as she looked at the little blood tiger, Connor smiled faintly. He hugged Varga from behind, inhaling her familiar, delicate scent, and whispered in her ear, "Do you like it?"
Varga nodded gently without the slightest hesitation.
"Then let this little guy come with you as my birthday present!" Connor said with a smile in Varga's ear.
Upon hearing that Connor was going to give her the little blood tiger as a birthday present, Varga paused for a moment, turned around in Connor's arms, looked into his eyes, and shook her head, saying, "I don't need it. I spend my days in the hospital studying pharmacology and don't fight with anyone. This little guy will be more useful staying with you, Connor!"
Connor gently kissed Varga's smooth forehead and said with a smile, "Varga, don't forget I'm an alchemist. And let me tell you a secret: I currently possess two level-two enchanted items!"
After saying that, Connor had a thought, and suddenly the Castiel Staff and the silver pendant appeared in his hand, which he displayed in front of Varga.
Feeling the powerful energy fluctuations emanating from the two powerful level-two enchanted items in Connor's hands, Varga seemed to be stunned. Not only were her star-like beautiful eyes wide open, but her cherry-like mouth was also slightly open in an "O" shape. Seeing that the expression was just as he had expected, Connor's vanity seemed to be greatly satisfied, and he put away the Castia Staff and the Silver Pendant.
Connor pulled Varga back into his arms, his fingers gently stroking her upturned nose as he earnestly advised, "Besides these two enchanted items, I have other methods. At the intermediate wizard apprentice level, I'm practically invincible. Even against an advanced wizard apprentice, I'm not without a fighting chance. And even if I can't win, I'm confident I can make a clean getaway. This little guy still needs a long time to grow up. Right now, it only has the strength of a beginner wizard apprentice. Even if I encounter a strong enemy, it won't be of much use. It's better for it to stay by your side and grow up safely!"
"Mmm!" Seeing that Connor had said so, Varga, nestled in his arms, had a happy glint in her eyes and didn't refuse his kindness, giving a soft reply as an agreement. However, Connor never saw the complexity and bitterness hidden beneath Varga's happy eyes...
