Chapter 256 Connor's Bold Guess

Margaret's words immediately embarrassed Connor. They struck a chord with him; his relationship with Margaret was too intertwined, and he didn't want Reyes to know about it.

After a brief silence, Connor looked directly into Margaret's smiling eyes and said in a deep voice, "I don't deny that I do have the thoughts you mentioned, but after working together for so long, I really don't want anything to happen to you!"

"Don't worry, the most dangerous place is the safest place. No one would think that the church's priestess practices blood witchcraft!" Margaret's stunningly beautiful face still maintained a smile, but her tone carried a hint of self-mockery.

Hearing Margaret's explanation, Connor's expression softened. Margaret was right. No matter how large or detailed the Church's search was, it was still aimed at the outside world. The risk of Margaret being discovered was very small. The Secret Society was probably just following their usual thinking and assumed that Margaret was a dark wizard hiding in Rune, and would never have thought that she was a member of the Church!

"I won't contact you again during this time, nor will I come here. If you want to find me, go to Imperial Department Store and look for Leonie!" Margaret's smile faded, and she changed the subject:

Yet, Margaret's heart burned with excitement. This wasn't just because she was certain that the dark wizarding organization Connor spoke of, which was far more terrifying than the Benfica Secret Order, was the secret society Connor belonged to. This also indirectly proved that the private hospital of Dr. Gulsi, which she had infiltrated, was indeed a location of the secret society, just as she had imagined—and definitely a very important one. Otherwise, the secret society would never have gone to such lengths to find her.

Margaret was extremely satisfied with Connor's attitude. Connor had clearly received word that the Secret Service was after her, but instead of betraying her, he had tipped her off. This pleased Margaret greatly, as it at least showed that Connor's position was not low…

He had led the Rune Arbitrators for decades, and it was only recently, after being promoted to Bishop, that he openly relinquished his power over the Arbitrators!

Without a doubt, Connor believed that after decades of cultivating the Rune Arbitrators, the entire Rune Arbitrators team was likely his people! Moreover, this person was now the bishop of the Rune Storm Church, and everyone in the Rune Storm Church was under his command. Even the person who had succeeded Eder as the leader of the Rune Arbitrators was most likely Eder's confidant. If anyone had such great power in the Rune Storm Church, Eder would definitely be ranked first!

Upon closer reflection, Connor discovered something suspicious about Edel. This guy was promoted to bishop only after the great black wizard riot following Constantine's death. It was said that this old fellow made great contributions in quelling the black wizard riot, not only leading the Arbitrators to annihilate many black wizards, but also personally killing several high-ranking members of the black wizard organization, including a formal wizard!

Connor has always had a question: his mentor Reyes was undoubtedly the mastermind behind the last great riot of dark wizards. Reyes orchestrated such a grand scheme, eliminating the former bishop of the Church of Storms, Constantine, and even blowing up the original headquarters of the Church of Rune Storms. What was Reyes after?

It's important to know that Reyes paid a heavy price. Not only did he leave Rune to avoid being hunted down by those old monsters from the Church of Storms, but organizing so many dark wizards and cannon fodder also required a great deal of financial and energy investment!

Having paid such a high price, and with Reyes seemingly having killed many members of the Storm Church and blown up their headquarters during the turmoil, damaging the Storm Church's prestige in Rune, Reyes and his secret society didn't seem to gain any other benefits. When Connor thought about Eder's rise to power, a bold idea popped into his head: what if everything Reyes did was to help Eder take over?

The moment the crazy guess that the bishop of the Church of Rune Storm was a spy for the secret society popped into Connor's mind, countless cold sweats broke out on his back. Although he had no evidence to support his guess, based on Connor's understanding of his mentor Reyes, the possibility that his guess was true was very high!

Connor slowly exhaled a breath of stale air, and gently closed his eyes. His mind subconsciously recalled the faint smile on the face of his mentor, Reyes, whom he hadn't seen for many days…
