Chapter 202 Meazza Manor
Chapter 202 Meazza Manor
Although the upgrade chip for the Demon-Detecting Staff hasn't been released yet, Connor has already returned to Rune by steam train. After all, no matter what the final upgrade plan is, it will require alchemical materials. On one hand, Tunguska is too small, and Connor even questions whether there are wizards there, let alone finding alchemical materials. On the other hand, all of Connor's current channels for obtaining alchemical materials are in Rune.
Back in Rune, Connor wanted to find Margaret, but unfortunately, Leonie said Margaret was busy with something important and wasn't in Rune. This gave Connor a headache. His other source of alchemical materials—the Mönchengladbach Club—held a meeting every month, and this month's meeting had already been held a few days ago. He would have to wait more than twenty days for the next meeting.
Twenty-odd days was a long time for Connor. He couldn't wait that long, so he decided to take a risk and go to a place he had never been before.
Connor, disguised as a middle-aged man, adjusted his top hat and looked up at the plaque in front of him, which neatly read "Meazza Manor".
Glancing around to make sure no one was watching, Connor slowly pushed open the manor gate and stepped into Meazza Manor. Meazza Manor was located in the eastern suburbs of Loen and ostensibly belonged to the wealthy Loen merchant Azpilicueta. However, Margaret had once told Connor that a wizarding auction was hidden there, held every Sunday.
There were no gatekeepers at the manor, and Connor entered without any hindrance. Although entering the manor was easy, as soon as Connor stepped inside, he felt a chilling wind sweep over him. The next second, a terrifying female ghost appeared in his sight. She was dressed in white, had long hair, pale skin, and blood-red lips. At the same time, the ghost's venomous screams echoed in Connor's ears.
"snort!"
Connor examined the female ghost with interest, shook his head slightly, and then hummed softly. The female ghost, the eerie wind, and the screams all vanished without a trace, replaced by a mid-level wizard apprentice in a red robe and mask, who was scrutinizing Connor with a wary expression.
Before the other man could speak, Connor said with a smile, "I am Mr. Pierre, introduced by someone. I heard there's an auction here!" After saying that, Connor took out fifty gold pounds from his wallet and threw them to the red-robed masked man.
Upon hearing Connor mention the name "Pierre," the masked man in the red robe became much less wary of Connor. He took the gold pound from Connor in mid-air, raised his head, and said in a hoarse voice, "Don't wander off, come with me!" He then turned and led Connor to the auction.
Following the man in the red robe at a leisurely pace, Connor fell into deep thought. He didn't know who the "Mr. Pierre" he had just mentioned was. He only knew that Margaret had told him that mentioning this man's name would allow him to participate in the auction at Meazza Manor.
From the outside, Meazza Manor may not seem large, but once inside, Connor discovered that it was truly a hidden world. The red-robed masked man led him into a series of alleyways, and after walking for more than ten minutes, they still hadn't found their way out. Just as Connor's patience was running out, the red-robed masked man led Connor to turn right into another alleyway. This time, two red-robed masked men, dressed the same as the ones who had led him in, appeared before Connor. These two red-robed masked men were guarding a bronze door.
The red-robed masked man who led Connor in nodded to the two red-robed masked men guarding the door, then ignored Connor and turned to leave. Just as Connor was wondering what was going on, the two red-robed masked men opened the door and gestured for Connor to come in. One of the taller men said in a low voice, "Please come in, the auction is about to begin!"
Upon hearing this, Connor had no further doubts and stepped through the bronze door. Behind the bronze door was a hall of about 300 square meters. Dozens of chairs were placed around the perimeter of the hall, and various wizards were sitting on them. The wizards tacitly maintained a safe distance from the others.
Sitting in a quiet corner of the hall, Connor squinted and pondered. He was no longer the same person he once was. The bronze door he had just passed through, though seemingly unremarkable except for being made of bronze, still revealed something special to Connor as an alchemist. First, Connor could confirm that the bronze door was not a standalone structure; it connected to the hall where he was now. Connor had reason to suspect that he was standing on a magic array.
However, Connor is currently unaware of the specifics of the magic circle or its function...
"clang!"
Just as Connor was lost in thought, a clock in the hall struck a loud chime. At the same time, a robust, imposing, white-haired old man entered the living room and took the center position. He looked around and said with a loud laugh, "It's a pleasure to see you all here again. Many of you are old friends who know me, but there are also quite a few new friends who have just attended the auction. So let me introduce myself. My name is Alazov! I am the owner of this Meazza Manor and the host of this auction."
"Arazov? An Odin man?" Upon hearing the old man's name, Connor's heart skipped a beat. If he remembered correctly, Arazov was a very common name in the Odin Empire. Thinking of this, Connor secretly began to scrutinize the face of the white-haired old man who called himself Arazov.
Hmm! Broad eyebrows, high nose bridge... If this old guy isn't disguised, he's probably an Odin!
Just as Connor was speculating whether this Mr. Alazov was an Odin, Mr. Alazov reiterated the rules of the auction to everyone present!
"Please do not submit random offers here. If you submit a price and your offer is successful, you will be obligated to purchase the item at that price!"
"Once the customer has won the bid and paid, they can leave immediately. Others can only leave after the auction ends!"
"We support item discounts, but whether or not a discount is applied is up to us. The discount amount will be 70% of the market price!"
