Chapter 192 Head-on Confrontation with Lindelof
Chapter 192 Head-on Confrontation with Lindelof
"Speak, your question!" Connor was startled by Lindelof's words. It seemed that he had underestimated his family. However, he did not ask any questions. He believed that he would find the answer in Lindelof's memory by using his soul-capturing technique.
"Are you a member of the Secret Society?" Mr. Lindelof emphasized the word "Secret Society" when he said it.
"That's right!" Connor nodded emphatically.
"I really didn't expect this. What I thought was the easiest part turned out to be related to the secret society..." Lindelof murmured softly, his eyes somewhat glazed over.
Lindelof's momentary lapse in concentration was not exploited by Connor. The reason? It's simple! A huge, burning cage of flames silently trapped Connor inside.
Connor, trapped in the cage of flames, showed no panic. On the contrary, he had a smile on his lips. At this moment, a staff appeared in his hand, and he wore a silver pendant around his neck.
Connor understood that when Lindelof said that it was not permissible to refuse to answer questions, it meant that the two sides would exchange something of value, which also meant that at most one person could survive in this apartment today!
Castia slammed his staff into the ground, and amplified by the silver pendant, a massive, invisible sonic wave shattered the fiery cage that had trapped him!
The fiery cage was broken by Connor, and this sudden turn of events immediately drew Lindelof's attention back to Connor, who had been lost in thought. He glanced at the staff in Connor's hand and the silver pendant around his neck, and said with some annoyance, "No wonder you, a mere intermediate wizard apprentice, dared to plot against me. So you're a mental wizard, and you even have two level-two enchanted items!"
Lindelof's frustration did not bring Connor any pride. He said quietly, "If I hadn't known that Your Excellency was seriously injured, I probably would have run as far away as possible..."
Putting aside his frustration, Lindelof looked at Connor with a serious expression and said, "I admit you do have the strength to fight me now, but I'll tell you just how big the gap is between an advanced wizarding apprentice and an intermediate wizarding apprentice!"
Connor, too lazy to engage in further verbal sparring with Lindelof, unleashed three consecutive mental shocks amplified by the silver pendant.
To Connor's surprise, his usually invincible mental attack struck Lindelof, but Lindelof merely stiffened his expression and didn't utter a sound. With a wave of his hand, seven or eight large, burning purple fireballs shot out in front of Connor.
The fireballs came incredibly fast, and Connor couldn't dodge them in time. He could only wave his Castia Staff with one hand to create a defensive barrier that blocked the large fireballs. However, to Connor's dismay, although his defensive barrier didn't break when hit by the seven or eight purple fireballs, it was smashed into a large crater, and the light on the barrier dimmed, which pained Connor greatly.
Despite his heartache, Connor dared not remove the defensive barrier. As an alchemist, he could easily repair or forge a new demonized item if it was damaged, but Temo only had one life. However, Connor noticed something: after unleashing the purple fireball, Lindelof's face seemed to have paled a bit. Clearly, unleashing such a powerful purple fireball was extremely strenuous for him, given his current serious injuries!
This discovery immediately boosted Connor's morale once again. He estimated that his defensive barrier could withstand at most one more purple fireball. If Lindelof could throw out a few more waves effortlessly, Connor would have to run away and call the Secret Society to deal with this guy.
Without giving Lindelof time to recover, Connor once again used a mental shock to harass Lindelof, preventing him from concentrating on casting new spells.
Lindelof's expression grew increasingly grave as he faced Connor's harassment. Unlike other conventional magical attacks, which you can block with various methods, mental shocks are something you can only endure without exceptionally rare mental defense items. Enduring a few hits is manageable; although he was a high-level wizard apprentice and had been severely injured by the secret society, his cultivation level remained intact. However, repeated attacks like this, like ants gnawing at an elephant, would eventually affect him!
Lindelof took out a ring from his spatial ring and solemnly put it on his hand. When Connor saw this guy's appearance, he knew something was wrong, but before he could do anything, the ring on Lindelof's hand shone with a bright red light. Then Lindelof chanted a spell, and more than a dozen crimson light spheres condensed in the air. These light spheres seemed to have a life of their own, and hideous facial features appeared on their surfaces.
Seeing this bizarre sight before him, Connor dared not be careless. He waved his Castia Staff, and dozens of black beams of light were released, slashing towards the crimson orb summoned by Lindelof.
This is Shadow Slash, a new offensive spell that Connor learned in his Abyss Arcane Arts after breaking through to the Intermediate Wizard Apprentice level! The main feature of Shadow Slash is that it is not limited by form and can be aimed at one target or multiple targets.
This Shadow Slash is a spell included in the advanced meditation technique "Abyss Secrets," so it is naturally about 30% more powerful than ordinary dark attribute spells. Now, it is being amplified by Connor's Silver Pendant, so its power is naturally quite considerable.
Under Connor's expectant gaze, Shadow Slash struck the crimson orbs of light. To Connor's delight, these strange things created by Lindelof seemed to be just for show. With a single strike of Shadow Slash, they were cut into pieces and fell to the ground.
However, Connor's joy did not last long. Lindelof chanted another incantation, and as the incantation rang out, the eerie crimson orbs of light merged back together and reappeared in the air of the apartment.
With a mocking smile, Lindelof waved his hand, and these eerie crimson orbs of light shot towards Connor with a sinister grin.
"Bang! Bang! Bang!..."
Crimson orbs—no, these crimson lifeforms—crashed one after another into Connor's defensive barrier. What they did next caused Connor's expression to change drastically; he clearly sensed that these things were actually devouring the barrier's energy…
