Chapter 190 Connor's Mixed Feelings
Chapter 190 Connor's Mixed Feelings
After thinking for a while in the safe house, Connor went out again. He wanted to take advantage of the gap before the other Celta members discovered Salah's death to secretly observe their stronghold, and then report their location to the Secret Society so that they could help him solve this problem. From Salah's memories, besides the leader Lindelof, they also had a mid-level wizard apprentice. If he went alone, he would be outnumbered and it would be very dangerous. So, after confirming their location, he should leave such a dangerous task to the Secret Society.
Soon, Connor arrived at the Celta Cult's stronghold in Salah's memory, a very secluded warehouse on the outskirts of the eastern district. To his surprise, the warehouse was completely black from the outside, as if it had been burned. There was also a cordon at the entrance, with several middle-aged men in their fifties and sixties guarding the entrance to prevent passersby from getting close to the warehouse.
This situation really left Connor completely baffled. What were the Celta people in the warehouse up to?
After a moment's consideration, Connor donned his disguise and walked over with a grin. He first offered a cigarette to an old man guarding the perimeter, then inquired, "Uncle, what happened to this warehouse? How did it burn like this?"
"He who eats another's food is bound to him; he who takes another's gift is obligated to him." Having accepted the cigarette Connor offered, the night watchman, without much suspicion, leisurely said to Connor, "I don't know what happened, I just know that about two days ago, this warehouse suddenly caught fire. The Metropolitan Police Department came and said it was due to years of disrepair, and now we're just waiting for the warehouse owner to handle it!"
"Oh! Is that so! What a waste of such a large warehouse!" Connor said, his eyes narrowing unconsciously as he flattered the older man.
"Who says otherwise? Such a big warehouse must be worth a hundred gold pounds!" It's clear that this uncle really felt sorry for the warehouse.
Having obtained the information he wanted, Connor was still not satisfied and secretly sneaked into the warehouse. However, the fire seemed to have burned very cleanly, and there were no useful clues. Connor found nothing in the warehouse.
Instead of returning to his shelter, Connor sat in the taxi and began to ponder. In Salah's memory, he was the second most important Celta Cult member in Loen, after Lindelof, the senior wizard apprentice. He was responsible for purchasing supplies for Lindelof and other Celta Cult members at the stronghold. He had last left the stronghold three days ago.
According to the old man who was banging on the door, the fire broke out at the base a day after Salah left. Of course, Connor didn't believe a word of the fire theory. There were only a few reasons why the warehouse burned down: first, Lindelof and his men inside were attacked, and either Lindelof or their attackers cleaned up the scene; second, an accident occurred, forcing Lindelof and his men to leave the warehouse and cover up their tracks with a fire.
Having too little useful information, Connor didn't dwell on it any longer. He needed to go retrieve a letter. Today was the day he had agreed to receive feedback on in the letter he had dropped into the mailbox at Reyes' villa.
The taxi stopped in front of a café called "Mr. De Sciglio's Café." Connor paid the driver the fare and a tip, then stepped out and entered the café. He casually ordered a coffee, drank it for a while, and then went to the café's newspaper and book section. From the least visited area, he found a long and tedious copy of "The Great Dictionary of Kaman."
Opening the "Kaman's Dictionary," Connor found an unopened letter inside, just as he had expected. He was incredibly excited. Suppressing his excitement, Connor put the dictionary back in its place, drank some more coffee, paid, and left.
Back in his safe house, Connor eagerly opened the letter. It was written in the secret society's code and appeared to be a love letter, but after the code was deciphered, its meaning was quite different.
"We have located the Celta Cult's stronghold and launched an operation two days ago. However, a mid-level wizard apprentice named Salah and a high-level wizard apprentice named Lindelof are still at large. Lindelof was severely injured by us. We are continuing our search for them. Please take care of yourself!"
The few dozen words left Connor with mixed feelings of joy and worry. He was pleased that the Secret Society was indeed efficient; they had already found the warehouse and dealt with the Celta Cult members without him even having to tell them.
What worries him is that Lindelof, the leader of this group of Celta Cult members and a senior wizard apprentice, has escaped. Fortunately, the guy is now seriously injured. With his current strength, Connor is confident that he can protect himself even if he faces this senior wizard apprentice one-on-one!
Thinking of this, Connor secretly breathed a sigh of relief. These days, he had been constantly on the run from the Celta Cult for safety reasons. Now that the Celta Cult only had the seriously injured Lindelof left in Rune, he could relax a little. With the efficiency and ability of the secret society, Lindelof probably wouldn't be able to hide in Rune for long.
Although the safe house was secluded and secure, it was only temporary, not a permanent place. After carefully hiding the safe house, Connor prepared to return to his apartment. However, just as Connor's taxi arrived on Rand Street, he ran into an "old friend".
"Young Master Connor, where have you been these past few days? I've been looking for you for days!" Inspector Rodri said excitedly to Connor.
"I stayed at my friend's place for a few days. Inspector Rhodes called me. Has the thief who robbed my apartment been caught?" Connor asked, observing Inspector Rhodes' excited expression.
"That's right! Thanks to our efforts over the past few days, we've successfully apprehended the thieves who robbed your apartment, Young Master Connor. They are the Reintel brothers, notorious thieves in the vicinity of Rune. This time, we've finally brought them to justice. However... the Reintel brothers have committed too many crimes. They'll certainly face hanging, but their valuables aren't enough to cover the damages. So, Young Master Connor, the losses to your apartment are probably..." Inspector Rodri's excited expression faded, replaced by a bitter look.
