Chapter 127 A Tiger Among Sheep!!!

Chapter 127 A Tiger Among Sheep!!!

Connor sneered inwardly, stroking his chin and deliberately showing off his watch, worth hundreds of gold pounds, to the middle-aged man. Then, pretending to inspect the hotel's decor, he paced back and forth in the lobby, exuding an air of extravagance, and said, "Your hotel is barely adequate!"

After saying that, Connor, like a nouveau riche, pulled out his wallet, took out a ten-pound note from a thick wad of banknotes, slammed it on the counter, and said, "I want the best room and the best food!"

Upon seeing the ten-pound notes lying on the counter, the middle-aged, portly manager's eyes immediately gleamed with greed. He pocketed the notes and said to Connor with a fawning expression, "Sir, this way please!"

With his arm around Margaret's slender waist, Connor strutted arrogantly as the portly middle-aged manager led him toward the room on the second floor.

The portly middle-aged man personally unlocked the room on the third floor and respectfully said to Connor, "Sir, this must be the best room in our hotel!"

Connor nodded arrogantly and pulled Margaret into the room.

"My beauty, it's really unfair to you to stay here. If it weren't for my wife's sallow complexion and her constant surveillance, I would definitely take you to the best hotel here..." In front of the wealthy manager, Connor, acting like a drama queen, touched Margaret's delicate hand with a serious expression.

Upon hearing Connor's words, the middle-aged, portly manager behind him, who had maintained a respectful posture throughout, suddenly looked enlightened. After a moment's hesitation, he said, "Sir, please wait a moment; your food will be served shortly!"

"I've canceled all my social engagements these past few days, so I'll definitely spend quality time with you here, shopping and having a good time. Whatever you want to buy, we'll buy it for you..." Connor continued his extravagant performance to Margaret, while simultaneously waving a hand behind him to signal to the middle-aged, well-off manager that he understood.

He glanced at Connor, the middle-aged, well-off manager, with envy and jealousy, then left the room and closed the door tightly.

Hearing the middle-aged, portly manager's footsteps disappear, Margaret flung Connor's hand away, glared at him, and gritted her teeth, saying, "Connor Ferguson, what the hell are you doing! We were supposed to be newlyweds on our honeymoon here... I'll fight you!"

"I was wrong... but... I had no choice!" Seeing Margaret's exasperation and impending fight, Connor quickly apologized. After apologizing, to divert Margaret's attention, Connor hurriedly said, "You, Margaret, do you think there's something wrong with this store?"

Now that Connor had apologized, Margaret's anger subsided considerably. She seized the opportunity and said, "Although I didn't use my mental power to detect that fat man, from what I observed, he showed absolutely no mental energy fluctuations; he shouldn't be a wizard!"

"Moreover, this person's words and actions are flawless. I don't think he is our target. Connor, your ten gold pounds are probably going to go down the drain!" Margaret said with a mocking smile.

"Tsk tsk tsk," Connor scoffed at Margaret's words that his ten gold pounds were going down the drain, showing no sign of annoyance. Instead, he chuckled and said with a smile, "I have a different opinion. That manager is exactly what we're looking for. If you insist, how about we make a bet on whether the food that manager delivers later will be alright?"

"Okay! What's the stake?" Margaret was not intimidated by Connor's challenge and readily agreed.

"A little gambling is harmless, but excessive gambling is harmful. Let's bet on who gets to rest on this bed first, and the loser rests on the sofa!" Connor said with a smile, pointing to the soft bed where Margaret was sitting.

Upon hearing Connor's bet on who would sleep on the big bed, Margaret was both amused and exasperated, but firmly agreed: "No problem! Connor, I look forward to seeing you relaxing on the sofa!"

With a smile and a shake of his head, Connor stopped arguing with Margaret and sat down on the sofa to rest.

About half an hour later, hearing footsteps and the sound of a food cart outside the door, Connor immediately opened his eyes. He exchanged a glance with Margaret, gave a wry smile, and changed into a bathrobe. To make it even more realistic, he even used his knight's breathing technique to force sweat onto his forehead, making his face flushed, as if he had just finished some kind of exercise…

When the knocking sounded, Connor opened the door with an impatient look on his face.

Upon seeing Connor appear, the portly middle-aged manager, accompanied by a waiter, immediately flashed his signature obsequious smile again, pointing to the food cart and saying ingratiatingly:

"Sir, we have prepared for you the finest Wellington steak, as well as our most distinctive dessert from San Jose Island, Sisi Patty..."

Before he could finish speaking, Connor pulled another one-shilling note from his wallet, threw it into the portly middle-aged manager's arms, and said irritably, "This is a tip for both of you!"

After saying that, he ignored the portly middle-aged manager who seemed about to say something more, took the food cart from the waiter, said, "Come pick up the food cart in two hours!" and slammed the door shut.

Pushing the food cart back into the house, Connor smiled and gestured for Margaret to come forward and inspect it. Seeing Connor's confident demeanor, Margaret felt a little uneasy, but she still went forward to inspect it. However, after only half a minute, Margaret snorted coldly, turned around angrily, and was about to sit on the sofa, offering the large bed to Connor.

With a chuckle, Connor quickly sat down on his sofa, jokingly saying, "Just kidding, just kidding! You're seriously ill right now, sit on the bed and recover properly. We're going to have a tough battle later!"

Margaret hesitated for a moment, but seeing that Connor's attitude didn't seem insincere, she sat back down on the bed. Once back on, Margaret couldn't suppress her curiosity and immediately asked Connor, "I'm sure that fat guy isn't a wizard. How did you discover his problem? And how did you guess they would tamper with the food?"

Connor smiled mysteriously and said without holding back, "That fat man is definitely not a wizard!!"
