Chapter 1044 A Scheme Within a Scheme

The danger of Blue Shadow Ants is well-known in the wizarding world, but such magical beasts are not invincible. On the contrary, they have significant weaknesses. If you can exploit these weaknesses, dealing with Blue Shadow Ants will undoubtedly be much easier.

While the methods for dealing with Blue Shadow Ants are demanding, it just so happens that Filo possesses some of these methods, which is the source of Connor's confidence in implementing his current plan.

The purpose of the mission was for Connor and Philo to join forces to explore the ruins. However, there was a crucial prerequisite for achieving this goal: to prevent the Storm Church wizards, such as Milik and Dezelby, from becoming suspicious.

The Church of Storms is too powerful. If they get involved, and if Connor and Philo really find the ruins related to Reyes in the Navas Forest based on the clues they have, then even if Connor and Philo join forces, they won't be able to get any meat, let alone soup.

Moreover, given the Storm Church's consistent style of appearing lenient and merciful on the surface while secretly plotting against them, they might, for reasons of secrecy, turn on Connor and Philo by killing them after they've served their purpose.

So Connor and Firo had already reached an agreement before taking any action: to get rid of the Storm Church's surveillance in the Navas Forest, and then the two of them would explore the possible ruins deep in the Navas Forest together. This is another reason why Connor provided things to Dezelby in that bookstore.

Success. By exploiting the conflict between Milik and De Zelby, Connor successfully got rid of Milik, leaving only De Zelby as the person monitoring him. And what better way to get rid of De Zelby's surveillance than to make De Zelby abandon Connor in danger?

So Connor's plan is to take advantage of Dezelby's self-righteous shrewdness and then use the Blue Shadow Ants to get rid of him very naturally. As for using the Blue Shadow Ants to do this, although it seems a bit dangerous, in reality, with Philo's help, there is not much danger.

In short, aside from being disgusted by Dezerby's Warcraft Powder, Connor and Firo's plan was successful without major incident. Both of them escaped the Storm Church's surveillance and temporarily gained their freedom.

In a good mood, Philo teased Connor, then, knowing time was of the essence, stopped arguing, took out his pocket watch, glanced at it, and said to Connor with a hint of helplessness, "Based on past patterns, at most two hours from now, that damned bastard Milick will catch up!"

Hearing Philo say this, Connor frowned slightly, then asked Philo with some suspicion, "Did he tamper with your clothes?"

Upon hearing Connor's question, Philo's expression grew even more bitter. He nodded and replied to Connor, "That's possible, but so far, I haven't found anything wrong with myself..."

Firo's answer undoubtedly revealed Connor's underlying concern. He glanced at Firo, seemingly wanting to say something but ultimately remained silent. Although he and Firo were currently on the same side, working together to search for the ruins deep in the forest, this was merely a temporary measure due to the threat from the Church of Storms. Connor had not forgotten what Margaret had asked him to do!

Firo Connor naturally wouldn't fully trust Filo, and Filo, in turn, clearly lacked trust in Connor, his companion, and the alliance they had formed under duress. So, even though Connor, being an alchemist, was more likely than Filo to discover the possible manipulation by Milik, given their mutual distrust, Filo would most likely refuse Connor's request, given their lack of trust in each other.

This undoubtedly exposed the lack of trust between the two, exacerbating their conflict and seriously affecting their future cooperation. So, knowing the answer would be rejection, Connor naturally didn't speak again. Firo, on the other hand, was clearly not stupid and understood what Connor wanted to say behind his hesitation, but he pretended not to see it. The meaning behind this was also self-evident.

After a brief rest by the stream, Connor and Firo, knowing time was of the essence, set off for their next destination. During their journey, Firo, who had already sparred with Milik several times, told Connor about Milik's prowess. In their previous meeting, due to the threat of the Blackblood Fox Bear family, Firo only had time to tell Connor about his purpose and Milik's miraculous limb regeneration within three days; he hadn't had a chance to fully explain Milik's strength.

Connor, who had already briefly sparred with Milik, was quite interested in Firo's description of Milik's strength. If things went as expected, in the coming days, he and Firo would engage in a life-or-death battle with Milik...

According to Philo's description, Milik's fighting style can be described as both fierce and cunning. Unlike normal wizards, he is not afraid of getting hurt and even desires to use the extreme method of exchanging injury for injury to hurt his opponents.

As a dark wizard, Firo had considered killing Milik in a bloody battle after discovering that Milik was relentlessly pursuing him, or trying to make Milik understand how risky the pursuit was so that he would back down. Unfortunately, Milik seemed to be on steroids, treating Firo like an enemy who had desecrated his ancestral graves, wishing he could take Firo down with him.

In the wizarding world, Philo had seen his share of ruthless people, but when faced with someone like Milik, who didn't consider his own interests at all and was only thinking about how to kill him, Philo was quite helpless and could only fight and retreat, forced by Milik to seek Connor's help.

According to Firo, compared to the traditional magical attacks that the Storm Church wizards were good at, Milik was more like a knight, using magic as cover and then rushing in to engage in close combat. When the chase in Navas Forest first occurred, Firo suffered a little loss because he was not used to Milik's fighting style.
