Chapter 1042 A Scheme Within a Scheme

Connor was willing to take the blame for Dezerby not because of any additional demands from Dezerby. Connor, who was fully prepared for the Storm Church to take action against him, was naturally not afraid. As for the secret mission of Dezerby killing him, Connor did this entirely for his own sake!

If Dezerby and Milick hadn't separated, they would have been two official wizards, making it inconvenient for Connor to do anything. But once they were separated, Connor's freedom to take further action would undoubtedly have increased significantly. This is the fundamental reason why Connor helped Dezerby. Otherwise, Connor wouldn't have been so foolish as to risk offending Hummels, the powerful cardinal of the Storm Church, to take the blame for Dezerby!

Connor, leading the way, glanced at his surroundings with a barely perceptible glint in his eyes. At the same time, DeZelby, seemingly recovering from the excitement of escaping Milick, noticed Connor's route and, as if realizing something, immediately asked, "Connor, have you discovered the location of the ruins?"

Connor, who already had a plan in mind, wasn't surprised by DeZelby's question. He casually pointed to a small mountain in the distance and said, "There seems to be something there. Let's go check it out!"

Following Connor's direction, DeZelby looked over, glanced at the small hill, and then scanned the surroundings with his mental energy. Finding nothing dangerous, he nodded to Connor and said, "Since Connor suspects something, let's go check it out!"

After finishing his speech, De Zelby, who was in a good mood, took the lead, overtook Connor who was leading the way, and walked at the front of the group.

Seeing that De Zelby hadn't noticed anything unusual, Connor felt a great weight lifted from his shoulders and followed behind De Zelby toward the small hill.

Ten minutes later, Connor and De Zelby's group arrived at a small grove of trees about a kilometer away from their target hill. Just then, some strange noises came from the grove.

"Sasa sasa... sasa sasa sasa..."

Upon hearing the strange noise, both Connor and Dezelby's expressions changed, and they immediately unleashed their full mental power to sense the surrounding forest.

"Oh no, Blue Shadow Ants ahead!"

Because of his psychic abilities, Connor, with his powerful mental strength, immediately recognized the source of the rustling noises after a few seconds of observation. He then warned the rest of the group:

Although Dezelby's mental strength was slightly weaker than Connor's, it was not too weak either. After Connor warned him, he also noticed the ant army that was gathering not far away, with specks of blue light on their bodies.

These peculiar ants, only slightly larger than ordinary ants and shimmering with blue light, are magical beasts called Blue Shadow Ants. These are typical social magical beasts; although called magical beasts, a single Blue Shadow Ant's attack power is even less than that of a slightly more ferocious magical beast. However, when they appear, it's not in numbers of a few, but in the tens or hundreds of thousands. With so many Blue Shadow Ants swarming forward, even a level two wizard, let alone a level one wizard, can only retreat and temporarily avoid their attacks.

Connor, DeZelby, and their group had an unfortunate encounter with a Blackblood Fox Bear yesterday, but as long as they ran fast, their lives were still somewhat guaranteed. However, if they had encountered the Blue Shadow Ants, Connor, DeZelby, and the five church arbitrators beside them would probably have been doomed. Fortunately, the Blue Shadow Ants were still in the process of gathering and had not yet attacked Connor, DeZelby, and their group.

Seeing the cunning Dezelby, his eyes lit up with the habits of the Blue Shadow Ants, and he immediately came up with a wicked idea. Without hesitation, he took out a runic crystal bottle with a steel ring from his spatial ring and threw it behind Connor.

Having completed this step, Dezelby ignored whether the runic crystal bottle had hit Connor or not, and immediately cast a spell, chanting an incantation that unleashed a whirlwind that enveloped him and the five Storm Church Arbitrators beside him. With the aid of this pale blue gale, Dezelby and the five arbitrators' speed instantly increased several times, propelling them backward at an incredible speed.

Connor was both surprised and furious at Dezerby's sudden attack without warning. Although he didn't know what the white runic crystal bottle that Dezerby had thrown behind him was, there was no doubt that Connor couldn't let it get close to him, no matter what it was. So when the runic crystal bottle was about half a meter away from him, Connor flicked his finger, and the runic crystal bottle exploded in mid-air. The dark brown particles inside the bottle floated in the air as a result.

Upon seeing the appearance of these dark brown particles, Connor immediately understood what Dezerby was up to, but by then it was too late; the dark brown particles had already adhered to Connor's body.

Although these dark brown particles had no smell, the hundreds of thousands of Blue Shadow Ants that had gathered nearby became restless upon sensing their appearance and quickly rushed towards Connor.

"Mr. Connor Ferguson, let's split up and retreat! Don't worry about your Ferguson family, I'll take good care of them!" Just as the swarm of Blue Shadow Ants attacked Connor, Dezerby, who had already led his men far away with the help of the strong winds, shouted loudly:

The whirlwind unleashed by Dezerby, while incredibly powerful and granting him and the five Storm Church Arbitrators a significant speed boost, only lasted a few seconds. Dezerby's face turned ashen, and his voice became hoarse and weak. Clearly, even with his cultivation level, wielding this whirlwind was extremely difficult and couldn't be sustained for long…

"Dezerby, you bastard, how dare you scheme against me!"

Although Dezerby's words sounded very high-sounding, Connor didn't buy it at all. As he activated his black magic robes and fled, he shouted and cursed loudly:
