Chapter 1026 Dezerby's Wish
Completely unaware of what was happening in Frosinone, Connor Ferguson was currently on the edge of the Navas Forest with De Zelby and his group.
Over the past few days, after Connor and De Zelby's group found nothing in the Decasa Swamp in the Campania Mountains, they searched several other possible locations, but still came up empty-handed. As the atmosphere in the group gradually became restless, in order to calm the group down and avoid unnecessary trouble, Connor had no choice but to lead them here.
Gazing at the endless forest in the distance, De Zelby hesitated, then looked at Connor, who was standing beside him, looking out from a higher vantage point. Although De Zelby hadn't spoken yet, Connor understood what he meant and shook his head slightly, saying, "This is the last place I can think of where the ruins might exist in the Navas Forest. If it's still not here, then I can't guess anything!"
Hearing Connor say this, DeZelby looked visibly disappointed, but could only sigh helplessly and say, "Then let's hope we can find it here..."
As soon as he finished speaking, De Zelby's eyes swept over Connor, intentionally or unintentionally, and a bitter feeling welled up in his heart. Before this operation, when he was still in Frosinone, during his meeting with Christant, Christant not only gave him the Crystal Book and instructed him to use it to monitor Connor Ferguson, but also gave De Zelby a secret mission on behalf of the Church!
To the Church of Storms, Reyes was a thorn in their side, someone they wanted to eliminate at all costs! Connor Fogg was Reyes's only student, and therefore, in the eyes of the Church of Storms, Connor's value lay in his ability to help them find the ruins where Reyes might be hiding, so that they could take advantage of Reyes's weakened state and kill him!
If Connor didn't help the Storm Church's ruins, it would mean that Connor had no value to the Storm Church. And everyone knows what kind of fate awaits a dark wizard who has no value to the Storm Church!
Therefore, the secret mission that Christant gave to De Zelby was to get rid of Connor after he failed to find the ruins. The team of Arbitrators who accompanied De Zelby was Christant's helper assigned to De Zelby to complete this secret mission!
Having just received the mission from Christant, and knowing that a team of arbitrators would assist him in completing it, De Zelby was brimming with confidence. He patted his chest and assured Christant that as long as Connor did not find the ruins and trigger this secret mission, he, De Zelby, would definitely complete the mission and live up to the church's expectations of him.
Unfortunately, as the mission progressed, especially after the battle with the evil spiders in the Campania Mountains, De Zelby, who was initially very confident in completing the secret mission, felt increasingly bitter. He even secretly hoped that Connor could find the ruins and not trigger the secret mission given to him by Christant.
Don't misunderstand, the reason De Zelby had such an idea was not because he was grateful to Connor for saving his life when facing the group of evil spiders and the Blood-Striped Evil Spider that was comparable to a formal wizard, and therefore did not want to fight Connor to the death.
For a seasoned first-class wizard like Dezelby, who had lived for over a hundred years and witnessed the coldness and warmth of human relationships, Connor's life-saving grace meant nothing. It was already quite good if he could say a few kind words about Connor in his heart. If it really came down to fighting, Dezelby would absolutely not remember any of that damn life-saving grace and would not show any mercy to Connor!
The real reason why De Zelby wanted Connor to find the ruins and not trigger the secret mission was that Connor's strength in the battle against the group of evil spiders completely refreshed De Zelby's understanding of him!
Before experiencing this great battle, although De Zelby was warned by Connor with his mental power in front of Ferguson Mansion, De Zelby only thought that Connor, as a mental wizard, was definitely stronger than him in terms of mental power. However, if it came down to a real fight, De Zelby, being a first-level wizard above Connor and having cultivated for decades longer, would not only not be able to defeat Connor but would definitely not lose to him. At that time, De Zelby could be said to be very confident in his strength.
However, after witnessing Connor's terrifying strength up close during that great battle, DeZelby's confidence completely crumbled. He clearly realized that if he faced Connor one-on-one, he would not only suffer a crushing defeat, but might even die at Connor's hands!
Even with the Arbitrators squad of only nine men by his side, who could assist him in dealing with Connor Ferguson, De Zelby had no confidence whatsoever in being able to kill Connor Ferguson. This secret mission was given to him by Christant, the intelligence director of the Black Organization, on behalf of the Church, and as a member of the Church, De Zelby obviously could not disobey it under any circumstances.
Therefore, for his own safety, De Zelby genuinely hoped that Connor could find that damned ruin. If that were the case, the secret mission Christant had given him would not be triggered, and De Zelby would naturally not have to face the dangerous Connor!
At this moment, Connor Ferguson had no idea what De Zelby was thinking, but he also had his own little thoughts. Six hours earlier, through the communication jade tablet he had crafted, Connor had received a message from Varga, who was in Frosinone, transmitted via a communication array.
Because Firo had already told Connor about Milick when they met at the bookstore, and emphasized the high possibility of conflict, Connor wasn't too surprised that Firo and Milick actually fought.
What truly surprised Connor was that the location where Firo and Milick made their move was, coincidentally, the Navas Forest, such a sensitive place!
According to information from within the Storm Church provided by Margaret, the Storm Church is organizing a manpower to capture Firo, and because of the alchemical bomb, Christant has already suspected Connor. Therefore, Margaret warns Connor not to get himself into trouble by meeting with Firo!
