Chapter 28 Wilderness

Chapter 28 Wilderness

The familiar voice from the chip in my mind was still ringing out.

Upon hearing the voice, Adir subconsciously looked at the crystal in his hand.

The black crystals appeared crystal clear, emitting a deep and mysterious light under Adir's gaze.

A faint warmth slowly spread from his hand to all parts of his body. Under the chip's monitoring, Adir's physical attributes were still improving, albeit slowly, but this time it hadn't stopped and seemed likely to continue for a long time.

"The unknown energy will be exhausted in three days!"

Seemingly sensing Adir's question, the voice from the chip in his mind sounded again.

Adir put away the black crystal core in his hand, then stood up and looked back wearily.

There, three natives of this world were looking at Adir with excited eyes, and the fervor in their eyes was easily seen even though Adir could not communicate with them.

Adir had no interest in paying attention to them. After a great battle, he felt exhausted and went to a corner to sit down and prepare to rest.

Seeing this, the three dared to step forward and cautiously look at the corpse on the ground.

It was the middle of the night, and the light was not very good. What they could see from the corner was actually very limited. Only now did they "curiously" walk forward, wanting to see the true face of this corpse.

However, besides curiosity, they still harbored a sense of fear about this strange occurrence, so they walked very slowly, glancing at Adir from time to time, afraid that the corpses on the ground might suddenly rise up.

They walked several meters away from the body before realizing something was wrong.

The pale woman's body had been reduced to a bare skeleton; all the flesh had vanished, seemingly obliterated by some force.

"This is what's eerie..."

The middle-aged man at the head of the group maintained a calm expression as he stood there and said, "When this corpse was alive, it was just an ordinary person. If it hadn't become a monster, it wouldn't be surprising if it had turned out like this."

After saying that, he couldn't help but turn around and look at Adir, who was sitting in a corner.

This was the first time he had witnessed a scene following a bizarre death, and it was a shock to his previous understanding.

Before today, he had never heard of anyone being able to fight against the supernatural, let alone witness its end.

Since the cataclysmic changes in the world, countless deaths have created a mysterious and formidable reputation. Even surviving bizarre events, let alone direct confrontation, is enough to earn a survivor great renown.

Warriors like Adir were unheard of in the memories of these three; to them, they seemed as if they had popped out of another world.

The next day, after dawn, the group finally left the room and went outside the building.

At the entrance of the building, a pile of desiccated corpses lay silently on the ground, unchanged.

Adir looked into the distance. At the spot where the insectoid beast had been yesterday, there was only black fluid and remains on the ground. Most of its body was gone, probably killed by other beasts.

He looked further into the distance and saw a relatively fresh corpse, now reduced to a pile of broken flesh and bones, and dried red blood.

Seeing this, he couldn't help but shake his head, gaining a deeper understanding of the state of the world.

Behind him, three other people followed him out of the building. When they saw the corpse in the distance, which was now just a few bones, their faces turned pale.

If it weren't for Adir's timely help last night, they would probably have ended up the same way, torn to pieces by various terrifying wild beasts, with no chance of survival.

Adir stood there quietly, and behind him, a middle-aged man walked up.

After what happened last night, they had become somewhat familiar with Adir. Now, they mustered their courage and came up to Adir, gesturing wildly, hoping he would leave with them.

Despite the language barrier, Adir understood what the other person meant and nodded.

The three people opposite were overjoyed.

The journey from the city to the nearby settlements is fraught with danger, and having Adir there would undoubtedly make things much safer.

They collected some things from the vicinity, especially the remains of the insect beast. Even though it had been gnawed on by wild animals, there were still many usable materials. They carefully collected them all, preparing to take them away.

Watching their actions, Adir stood still for a moment, then went up and chopped off several claws from the insect beast, carefully collecting them.

These insect claws are extremely hard and sharp, not much inferior even to materials like black steel, making them somewhat worth collecting for Adir.

"Errone, we should go." The young man looked at the middle-aged man in front of him and called out after glancing at the spot.

The middle-aged man named Erri nodded, glanced at Adir who was standing motionless in front of him, respectfully stepped forward and made a hand gesture before leaving with his men.

···········

No one knows what happened in this world before. Whether in cities or in the wild, it is filled with all kinds of dangerous creatures.

They walked carefully through the city, encountering some dangers along the way, but managed to avoid them all.

However, the situation is different once you get to the wild.

Dangerous beasts were almost everywhere in the wild. After walking only a few miles, Adir saw several insect-like creatures, each wandering around in the wild.

And so, three days later.

On a plain, Adir walked slowly forward, the black longsword at his waist already drawn.

His face was calm, but his eyes were cold as he stared silently ahead.

There, a two-meter-tall insect-beast with sharp horns hissed, its black fluid slowly dripping onto the ground.

They have a human face on their backs, and a sticky liquid keeps flowing on their bodies, making them look somewhat terrifying and disgusting.

This was a nest of insects and beasts that they encountered in the wild, which happened to be blocking their way. To avoid trouble, Adir took action himself.

He strode forward quickly, his speed creating a strong gust of wind, covering seven or eight meters in the blink of an eye, and rushed to the two insect beasts, slashing his longsword forward fiercely.

A black sword light flashed, and the heads of the two insect beasts were severed almost simultaneously, black bodily fluids splattering everywhere and splashing onto the ground.

Given the vitality of the insect beasts, this was not enough to kill them quickly, so Adir went forward and struck them a few more times before they stopped moving.

"The main body is affected by an unknown force, and its physical attributes are beginning to improve." The mechanical voice sounded in his mind again the moment the two insectoid beasts became completely still.

A familiar warm current flowed quickly through my body and then disappeared just as quickly, so brief that it was almost imperceptible.

A cheer erupted from behind, far exceeding the size of three people.

Not far away, Erri, with seven or eight people, looked at Adir and the corpses of the two insect beasts with excited expressions.

"Although it's not the first time I've seen it, every time I see it, I can't help but marvel at what an amazing knight he is."

Beside Errey, a middle-aged man in armor gazed at the distant scenery with burning desire in his eyes.

This is a man that Adir and his companions met on the road. He is said to be a true knight who once held a title before the world upheaval. After being rescued by Adir on the way, he traveled with them.

Apart from this person, the others were basically the same; they were either rescued on the road or joined him voluntarily after witnessing Adir's terrifying combat power.

These people were either knights or descendants of nobles, and Erri and his two fellow commoners dared not refuse their invitation.

Although the world has changed dramatically, and several once-great kingdoms have collapsed in an instant, it does not mean that royalty and nobility have died out.

Because they possessed armies, although the nobles were in dire straits, with large tracts of their territory occupied by various strange creatures in the wild, they were still able to maintain the safety of some of their lands.

The aristocratic order has not completely collapsed. Everyone in this world, including Erri and his two companions, lives in the territories of the nobles and naturally holds these people in awe.

In fact, as the number of people increased, the dangers in the wild also increased significantly. Therefore, apart from these people, those of lower status were basically abandoned.
