Navigator: I have a double six-story house
Chapter 77 This Luther has his own ideas
Su Qing did not respond; Luther's words seemed to be perfectly flawless.
The words "keep your distance" sound like a well-intentioned reminder, but to Su Qing, they meant something completely different.
A chamber of commerce deacon reminds a business partner to stay away from another business partner?
This isn't goodwill; this is stirring up trouble.
He dared not forget the time he was completely outmaneuvered by that old fox Zloty.
After considering her options, Su Qing chose the easiest way to respond.
"understood."
His tone was flat, showing no interest, no follow-up questions, and no curiosity.
These three words effectively shut down any further discussion of Luther's work.
Luther's smile froze for less than half a second before returning to normal.
But before he could find a new topic, he heard Selena's voice from behind.
"Luther".
Selena was still standing on the edge of the pier, the sea breeze blowing her long hair to one side.
Her expression was completely different from when she was on the boat; there was no laughter or coquetry.
At this moment, she seemed more like the young lady of the Wind Breeze Merchant Guild.
You've been talking a bit too much today.
Luther turned and bowed slightly. "Miss Selena, I just..."
"Do you want to go back to headquarters for a vacation?"
She said this in a relaxed tone, even with a smile.
But Luther visibly flinched and lowered his head.
"I have overstepped my bounds, Miss Selena, I apologize."
Selena didn't look at him again and walked forward.
As she passed by Su Qing, she reverted to her usual self, winked at him, and whispered, "Let's go, Captain."
Su Qing followed, while Wang Yao walked at the very back, his hands in his pockets. He glanced at Luther ahead, then at Selena's back, and scratched his head.
He felt that something was wrong with what had just happened, but he couldn't quite put his finger on it.
Forget it, I don't want to.
The group of four walked along the pier toward the island.
The stone-paved road stretches from the port all the way to the heart of the island. The road surface is clean, and the further you go in, the more people there are.
Unlike the first Midway, the crew on this island were noticeably more energetic and spirited.
The first group of people on Midway had a look of confusion and anxiety in their eyes.
But this place is different. The passing crew members walk briskly, have sharp eyes, and are equipped with much better gear.
Su Qing glanced at it a few times but didn't say anything.
Luther noticed the doubt in Su Qing's eyes and spoke up to explain. This time he had learned his lesson and didn't try to slip in any personal agenda.
"Captain Sue may have noticed that the crew here is quite different from the original Midway crew."
"There were merchant ships traveling between Midway Island. If the crew members who were initially at Midway Island could not be recruited by the captain, they could save up copper coins and spend some money to take a merchant ship to the next Midway Island to try their luck."
Luther walked at a moderate pace, his voice just loud enough for the three of them to hear clearly.
"The fact that these people were able to save up that amount of copper coins shows that they have a certain level of ability."
"Those that haven't been chosen yet after arriving here either ask for too high a price, have personality problems, or..."
He paused for a moment.
"Either they're waiting for a specific ship."
Su Qing nodded, indicating that she had heard.
He didn't ask any more questions, nor did he show any interest. It wasn't that the crew members were bad, but rather that the current situation didn't allow him to gamble.
There were three people on the boat, and he knew each of them inside and out.
Su Qing knew one thing well: at sea, an uncertain teammate was more dangerous than an enemy.
However, he does have someone he wants to find.
"Luther," Su Qing began.
"exist."
"Help me check if a few people are on this island."
Luther turned around, took out a small notebook and a pen from the inside pocket of his robe, and assumed a position to take notes.
Su Qing gave five names.
These five people were the only ones from the Sunshine Orphanage, besides him and Wang Yao, to simultaneously enter the Age of Exploration.
We grew up together, know each other inside and out, and are trustworthy. If we happen to meet, we can just pull each other on board.
Luther carefully wrote it down and then slammed the notebook shut.
"I will arrange for someone to investigate, and I will get back to you by tomorrow at the latest."
Su Qing hummed in agreement.
After walking for a few more minutes, a wall appeared in front of us.
The wall, made of white coral stone, was not high, but it enclosed a separate courtyard. The emblem of the Windbringer Merchant Guild hung at the entrance, and two uniformed guards stood on either side of the iron gate.
Upon seeing Luther and Selena, the guard immediately pushed open the door.
A two-story stone building sits in the center, surrounded by coconut trees, with a gravel path paved on the ground.
Luther led the three into the building and assigned them to separate rooms.
Su Qing didn't rush into the room, but stood in the corridor and called Luther to a stop.
"Purchase List"
He took a piece of paper out of his pocket and handed it to him. He had written it on the paper while he was on the ship; the handwriting was neat.
Luther took it, pulled a pair of glasses from his pocket, put them on his nose, and quickly scanned the glasses.
200 units of bone material.
1000 units of timber.
100 units of steel.
Invitations, cannons, food—buy as much as you can.
Luther's gaze lingered on the list for two seconds, his eyes darting around behind his glasses.
"There are no problems with the timber and steel; we have plenty of stock, and they can be delivered to the berth tomorrow."
"The bone material... will take some time. This isn't a commonly available commodity, so I'll have to source it from other channels. It should take about two to three days."
"An invitation," Luther adjusted his glasses. "I need to ask my superiors about that. I can't guarantee it, but I can try to get one for you."
He shook his head when the topic of cannons came up.
"We can't provide the cannons, Captain Su. It's not that we don't want to sell, it's just that the rules restrict it. Midway hasn't opened up the right to trade cannons at this stage, and there's really nothing I can do about it."
Su Qing's expression didn't change; he had almost forgotten that he was only at the second Midway Island.
It seems we'll have to figure out a solution for the cannon issue later.
After Luther finished reciting the first few items, his gaze finally fell on the last line of the list.
Buy as much food as you can get.
He looked up and glanced at Selena, who was standing behind Su Qing. Selena nodded slightly.
Luther understood.
"As for the food, I'll prepare it to the highest standard." He folded the list and put it in his pocket. "Captain Su, please rest assured. If you don't have anything to do these next few days, you can take a stroll around the island. This island is much more lively than the original Midway Island."
After saying this, he bowed to the three of them, turned and left.
The footsteps disappeared at the end of the corridor.
Su Qing leaned against the door frame, looking in the direction Luther had left.
Wang Yao leaned closer and lowered his voice. "Su Zai, is this guy reliable?"
Su Qing did not answer the question.
He turned and went into the room, sitting down in a chair by the window.
Outside the window are coconut trees and courtyard walls, and sunlight shines through the blinds, casting parallel streaks of light on the ground.
Selena followed her in and closed the door behind her.
"What are your plans for the next few days, Captain?"
Su Qing leaned back in her chair and closed her eyes.
"I'm not going anywhere."
Selena paused for a moment.
"We'll stay at the outpost until everything arrives, then we'll leave."
Wang Yao raised an eyebrow, a hint of disappointment in his eyes.
"Aren't you going out for a stroll? You've finally made it ashore."
Su Qing opened her eyes, glanced at him, and said nothing.
Wang Yao shrugged and found a place to sit down and rest.
At this moment, Selena also sensed something was wrong and moved closer to Su Qing.
"I'm sorry, Captain, but Luther always has his own ideas."
Su Qing glanced at Selena and found her somewhat interesting.
She has her own ideas in front of the president of the chamber of commerce's own daughter.
He looked intently at Selena, his expression serious.
"Is there anything I can do for you?"
Selena twirled her hair with her fingers, looking somewhat awkward.
"Is that alright, Captain?"
