On the deck of the black two-masted ship "Bone Eater," a bald man was lounging on a folding chair at the stern with his legs crossed, fiddling with a fishing line.

His name is Wu Ming.

The captain of the third combat squad under the Wild Wave Merchant Guild, Lv.9, just one step away from level 10.

"So," Wu Ming tied the sub-line in his hand, "the guild leader sent me on this trip just to kill a newbie?"

The tall, thin man standing in front of him shrank back.

"Boss, the higher-ups said that guy is a genius with huge potential. We need to catch him before he develops..."

"A genius?" Wu Ming scoffed. "I've killed more geniuses than you've eaten meals."

He tied the fishing line and sat up.

"A second-class ship, three people."

"The highest level is probably only four or five. Sending me this kind of work is really using a sledgehammer to crack a nut."

The tall, thin man smiled obsequiously, "Our boss is very capable, so the higher-ups are just looking for stability."

Wu Ming snorted and didn't say anything more.

He closed his eyes, intending to take a short nap.

About five minutes later, the tall, thin man's voice rang out again.

"Boss, they've sped up."

Wu Ming didn't even lift his eyelids. "No rush."

"Speed-up items are either one-time consumables or have a time limit."

"How much inventory can a captain who's just come out of his rookie phase have? Just keep it hanging."

He rolled over and found a more comfortable position.

As the evening breeze blew by, a cruel smile crept onto his lips.

"The faster the prey runs, the more desperate the chase becomes."

"I like seeing that expression."

The tall, thin man shuddered; his captain was extremely brutal whenever he hunted down new recruits.

He nodded and bowed, "The boss is right."

He wore a smile, but inside he was still somewhat uneasy.

"Boss... what if the other side has a navigator? Or a speed-up decoration?"

Wu Ming opened his eyes and glanced at the tall, thin man.

Then a sharp rap on the top of the skinny guy's head.

"Did you get seawater in your brain?" Wu Ming sat up, looking disgusted.

"Who would hire a support role like a navigator in the early game? Can they handle dungeons? Can they kill people? Normally, people would hire combat-type crew members in the early game."

The tall, thin man covered his head. "That ornament..."

Wu Ming was both amused and annoyed when he heard about the ornament.

"A decorative item?"

"Do you even know how many decorative items the entire Wild Waves Merchant Guild has?"

"Does a newbie even have the ability to get their hands on that kind of thing?"

"Our Wild Waves Merchant Guild owns eight ships, and we haven't assigned any to any of them. How could a nobody captain like him possibly get one?"

"I wouldn't even dare to make up something like that!"

The tall, thin man nodded repeatedly. "Boss's analysis is correct. I was overthinking it."

"Alright, stop bothering me." Wu Ming picked up a fishing rod from beside the chair.

This is no ordinary fishing rod; the entire rod body is dark red, with a copper buckle at the joint, and the elasticity of the rod tip is visibly excellent.

[Rank C Item: Blood Shark's Fang]

He bought it from the Wild Waves Merchant Guild at a high price.

Even as an insider with access to discounts, the final price still stung a little.

Wu Ming cast the fishing line into the sea, crossed his legs, and hummed a little tune.

"Call me when you catch up."

The sea was calm, and dusk was falling.

Less than ten minutes after the fishing line entered the water, the rod tip suddenly sank.

With a flick of his wrist, Wu Ming precisely lifted the rod, and a large, silvery-white fish was flung onto the deck, thrashing about on the wooden planks.

It looks to weigh at least three pounds.

Wu Ming was in a great mood and threw the fish into the bucket.

"Indeed, fishing is 30% skill and 70% equipment." He touched his fishing rod, his face full of pride.

Cast the line again.

A little while later, the tall, thin guy jogged over.

"Boss! The other side has slowed down!"

Wu Ming didn't even turn his head. "See? What did I tell you? You ran out of speed-up items."

He tugged at the fishing line. "Call me when you're almost there. Don't startle me."

The tall, thin man smiled ingratiatingly and left.

A gentle sea breeze rippled through the water as the fishing line swayed softly.

Wu Ming squinted, enjoying the moment.

He would go fishing before committing murder to relax; it was his habit.

The rod tip moved again, and just as Wu Ming was about to lift the rod, he heard that annoying voice behind him again.

"Boss! We're almost there! I estimate less than half a nautical mile!"

The tall, thin man's voice came from the other end of the deck.

Wu Ming paused for a moment as he lifted the rod; the fish had escaped.

He smacked his lips, looking a little disappointed.

"Got it." He yawned. "I'll be there in a bit. Tell the brothers to get ready."

Wu Ming re-baited the fishing line and cast it back into the sea.

I'll catch one last one, then go get to work. It's just a simple hunt, after all.

Even if he doesn't take action himself, his subordinates can easily handle it.

He hadn't even sat down leisurely yet, as soon as the fishing line hit the water.

"Boss!! Something terrible has happened!!"

The tall, thin man scrambled back, his face deathly pale.

Wu Ming frowned and swung another hard slap across the forehead.

"What do you mean by 'not good'?"

"Haven't I told you countless times not to panic in a crisis?"

He was intently fiddling with his fishing rod, his gaze fixed on the float on the sea surface.

"Tell me, what's making you so flustered?"

The tall, thin man rubbed his head and poked it. "The chestnuts of a ninth-class captain aren't that delicious."

"hiss……"

"Boss, they're charging at us!"

Wu Ming didn't even raise an eyebrow; he was completely focused on fishing.

"What's wrong with that? They're coming to their deaths willingly; it's a good thing."

The tall, thin man quietly moved a few steps away from Wu Ming.

"But they're very fast."

Wu Ming raised his eyebrows.

"Oh?"

"Interesting. Instead of running away, it charged towards me."

"Didn't you know we're a third-class ship?"

Wu Ming chuckled. It seemed that the newcomer had resorted to desperate measures.

Knowing you can't win, but wanting to give it a shot?

Don't be ridiculous, how could a second-class ship possibly ram a third-class ship?

"It's nothing, they're just making a last-ditch effort."

The tall, thin man muttered something under his breath.

"What if the other side has a corner kick...?"

"Um?"

Upon hearing Wu Ming's voice, the tall, thin man quickly took a few steps back.

Wu Ming sighed, "I'm telling you, stop thinking about all that nonsense all the time."

"If the other side really has a rare thing like a ram."

"Starting today, I'll never catch anything while fishing again!"

The voice just fell.

A violent tremor came from the bow of the ship.

It wasn't just ordinary turbulence; it was a tremor that this third-class ship had never encountered before.

It felt like the whole ship was being grabbed from the front by a giant hand and then pushed backward with force.

The sound of planks cracking exploded from the bow of the ship, and the deck tilted violently.

Wu Ming was thrown off the folding chair, his head hitting the deck, and his vision went black for a moment.

The expensive C-grade fishing rod in his hand drew an arc and fell into the dark seawater, where it was swallowed by the waves in an instant.

Wu Ming lay on all fours on the deck, his ears ringing.

He looked up, completely bewildered.

"...What's going on?"
