Richard walked a few hundred meters, rounded a street corner, and saw a simple, pure white building.

That was the main building of the church, its white color exuding an aura of holiness. No matter how you looked at it, it didn't seem like a place where a large number of corpses were hidden.

However, just tens of meters underground in the church, countless deathly energies condensed as if they were real.

Each wisp of death energy represents a corpse, and conservatively estimated, there are over ten thousand.

If the bodies were those of modern people, then the disappearance of so many people would certainly attract public attention.

Then it can only be the corpse of an ancient person.

Richard had read about legends about Western churches online, such as the priests in some churches who liked to adopt children and who were always doing shady things.

Given the history of the Indian school, Richard strongly suspects that there is a dungeon beneath St. Carlisle Church.

He walked to the church door.

For ordinary people, corpses are terrifying.

But for Richard, this was a treasure trove waiting to be explored.

There is a flat lawn in front of the church, and a statue of the Virgin Mary that is more than 3 meters tall stands on the lawn.

The statue of the Virgin Mary faces away from the church and towards Richard. At her feet is a stone tablet inscribed with the name "Cathedral of St. Carlisle" and a brief history in cursive script.

"Cough cough cough!" A coughing sound came from a tent not far away.

Like many other places, dozens of tents were pitched in a sheltered corner outside the church, housing many homeless people.

The air in October was already quite cold. The tattered tent couldn't keep out the chill of the night wind, and the homeless man occasionally let out a low cough.

Richard glanced at it cautiously from a distance a few times before quickly leaving.

Who knows if any of these homeless people got high and suddenly started attacking someone?

It would be much safer to come during the day; there's no need to risk it at night.

Richard returned to the morgue assistant's office, lay down on the folding bed, searched for information about St. Carlisle Church on his phone, and slowly fell asleep.

I woke up at around 6 a.m. the next day.

Richard scratched his head, looking somewhat troubled.

"My sleep time is getting shorter and shorter; now I can't even get 3 hours of sleep."

For most people, sleep is a pleasure, but that pleasure is rapidly disappearing.

Richard sighed.

Brown still hasn't returned, and it's unknown how he spent the night.

Brown still hadn't returned by 8 a.m.

Richard picked up his phone and called Brown.

Brown is a good person, hardworking, diligent, and does his best to help his family.

Unfortunately, John Jr. is a scoundrel who hangs out with drug dealers and gangsters, and he's likely to get himself into serious trouble.

Brown's phone is unreachable.

Richard had no choice but to give up.

However, Alex called.

He never called me this early; he usually contacted me at night.

Richard answered the call out of curiosity:

"Alex, what's up?"

Alex's voice came through:

"There have been torrential rains for the past two days, and many people usually freeze to death in this kind of weather. We're all staying in the car tonight, in case we have to collect the bodies at any time. If we're too late, someone else will take them."

Richard nodded:

"no problem."

Richard looked out the window. The weather was getting increasingly gloomy, the air pressure was low, and the air was filled with the damp, oppressive feeling of an impending downpour.

......

Roman arrived at the hospital early in the morning.

There are three bodies in the morgue, which are important evidence for the police and are related to the gang conflict in recent days.

Today, an NYPD inspector will personally come to collect the body.

He planned to make an appearance with the police inspector and try to build a relationship with him.

In addition, Richard, that lucky guy, is also on duty in the morgue.

I'll go see him while I'm at it; he'll definitely be grateful.

A mere international student from the University of Tokyo is certainly not worthy of being personally inspected by the esteemed Dean Roman.

But Richard was different.

Anyone who gains the favor of a member of the House of Representatives deserves to be given sufficient attention.

Roman quickly straightened his clothes and headed towards the morgue.

......

Richard waited in his office until 8:20 a.m. before a short, white man strolled in, sipping his coffee as he walked.

"Who are you?" the white man asked in surprise. "Where's Brown?"

Richard smiled:

"I'm Richard, the new morgue assistant. I covered Brown's shift last night. You must be Sutton?"

Brown had introduced him to the morgue; there were two assistants in total, and Brown was a part-time worker who worked the night shift.

The other person was Sutton, a full-time employee who worked with Karim during the day.

Sutton snorted coldly, ignoring Richard's outstretched hand, his eyes instead carrying a barely perceptible hostility.

Damn yellow people!

Recently, his girlfriend was stolen away by an Asian man, which made him very angry.

Sutton, as if he hadn't heard Richard's words, continued to question him:

"How did you get in? Where's Brown?"

Richard keenly sensed Sutton's hostility, somewhat inexplicably.

However, since the other party was impolite, Richard had no interest in being polite and packed his things to leave.

Anyway, it was already past 8 o'clock, and I had already finished get off work.

"Hey! Who are you?! I'm asking you, where's Brown?!" Sutton persisted.

"What a lazy black man. Is he high on drugs again, like his brother?"

Richard calmly replied:

"You'd better call Mr. Roman first."

"Hmph, a yellow man knows the director's name?" Sutton didn't believe that a mere morgue assistant would know the director.

However, he wasn't a reckless person. What if she really was a new employee?

Sutton picked up the phone and called Karim.

It rang seven or eight times before Karim answered, and a voice that had just woken up came through:

"What's wrong?"

Sutton embellished the story:

"Mr. Karim, Brown is missing. An Asian man was on duty in the office last night, and he said he was the new assistant."

"WTF?! How come I didn't know there was a new assistant!" Karim recalled what happened a couple of days ago, when Brown had the audacity to put two Asian body collectors into the morgue.

Now they're actually letting an Asian person take his shift. I wonder what kind of crappy friend Brown has to him!

Karim said angrily:

"Damn it! That guy snuck in! Call security and kick him out right now! Brown's fired!"

This kid is a handful. Richard didn't want to waste any more time arguing with him; they'd understand what had happened once they received Roman's message.

But when Richard heard that Brown was going to be fired, he stopped in his tracks.

With Karim's backing, Sutton spoke with even more arrogance, saying smugly:

"Listen! Get out of here right now, and take off your coat, it's your hospital uniform. I'm going to search you, who knows if you've stolen anything from the hospital! All Asians are thieves! Damn thieves!"

Richard's face turned cold as he stared at Sutton.

Are you sure?

Sutton looked at Richard's expression and felt a strange fear rise in his heart, so he dared not search him.

"You're not getting away!" Sutton simply picked up his phone and called the security guard.

"An outsider has sneaked into the morgue! Take him away immediately!"

"OK, I'll be right there!"

Richard simply watched coldly, doing nothing, waiting for him to make a big fuss.
