I'm a proper student; I only take nine kinds of potions every day.
Chapter 97 The Wounded Richard, 5 Potion Recipes
Chapter 97 The Wounded Richard, Five Potion Recipes
On Friday evening, after dinner, Evan returned home and, as usual, opened his Demon Hunter Vision to check.
"Who?"
My eyes swept across the room and I spotted a figure huddled up next to a cabinet deep inside.
The figure radiated an astonishing amount of heat and appeared to be an adult.
Ivan instantly used copper to protect the vital parts of his body, tensing up and entering a battle state.
The figure remained motionless, leaning against the wall, breathing heavily.
When Evan got closer and saw the figure clearly, he was immediately shocked.
"Senior brother!? What's wrong?"
That figure was none other than Richard, whom we hadn't seen for a week.
Richard's face was somewhat pale at this moment.
A large patch of blood seeped from the chest of the old jacket, and the button near the chest looked as if it had been cut in half by some kind of knife.
His forehead was covered with a fine layer of cold sweat, and a vein on the side of his neck was sticking out from under his skin.
He clutched his chest, trying his best to breathe air into his lungs.
His voice was hoarse, emitting only a half-smile.
"Just finished a fight."
He caught his breath: "I was ambushed from behind."
Even in this state, he didn't forget to look up at Ivan, raise an eyebrow, and praise him in the tone of an elder.
"Kid, you're pretty alert."
"Quite perceptive."
"I tried my best to conceal my presence, but I didn't expect you to still catch me out on the spot."
Without saying another word, Evan reached out and picked up his senior brother, carrying him to the small bed in the second bedroom covered with a coarse cloth sheet.
He asked anxiously, "Senior brother, your breathing is off."
"If it were just fatigue, you wouldn't be panting like this."
Richard struggled to raise his hand and pulled a small bag wrapped in layers of old cotton cloth from his chest, handing it over.
"Your potion."
Just as Evan reached out and took the small bag, his gaze fell on the area beneath Richard's torn collar.
Two deep, long scratches ran across that firm pectoral muscle, from the chest down to the ribs.
The area around the scratches was oozing pus and ulcerated, and the black infected marks looked like blood vessels, visibly wriggling towards the sides of the body.
"It's not just a simple serious injury—it's an infection?"
Ivan immediately made an analysis.
Richard nodded and coughed again.
"Yeah, I ran into a bunch of weirdos."
He shifted his waist to make himself more comfortable.
"The other side brought several servants with them."
"Those servants had ridiculously hard skin; punching them felt like hitting an iron man."
"They are not afraid of death, and they feel no pain."
"The group's movements were perfectly coordinated; the only thing the demon hunter could see was a yellow aura emanating from them."
He sighed, "They were very agile, their attacks were sometimes near and sometimes far."
"This style of play is quite effective against me."
After hearing Richard's series of descriptions, a name almost immediately popped into Evan's mind.
The Healing Church, with its coppery properties.
"Senior brother!"
"Have you offended anyone recently?"
Richard remained silent for a few seconds.
His face, divided in two by the darkness and the lamplight, showed that he was thinking about many things, and in the end he just sighed.
"It's better if you don't know."
Ivan didn't respond.
He reached out and ripped open Richard's old tweed shirt, which was now hardened and smeared with blood, with a tearing sound.
What was exposed was a chest covered in a mixture of bluish-purple and dark red.
"Senior brother————"
He looked up, his expression much more composed than his usual sunny and playful smile.
"Now that I've seen you like this, I can't just leave you be."
"By keeping this from me, you're only hurting me. I don't know who the enemy is, and if someone sneaks up on me from behind, I won't even know how I died."
He pressed his fingertips against the skin and flesh at the edges of the two wounds.
"Does it feel numb?"
Richard hummed in agreement and swallowed hard.
"I can barely feel anything around the wound."
He closed his eyes, leaned on the edge of the bed to catch his breath, and then lowered his voice to a very low hue.
"All right!"
"I already know everything about what happened to you that night in New Haven."
"You've been through this before, so you're not entirely unfamiliar with it."
"I guess you've already received Dr. Armitage's investigation assignment."
Ivan nodded: "Yes. It's about a new, mysterious virus."
Richard nodded and said, "That's right."
"The group that attacked me was dressed in the same clothes and used the same methods as the Healing Church."
"But based on my understanding of those guys who chant scriptures, if they really wanted to do this kind of thing, they wouldn't need to be so sneaky."
"They are now more often seen in mines outside the city, and are associated with the Sap Mining Group."
After hearing this, Ivan sneered, "Sap—he really is always involved in every prostitution raid!"
Then he recalled the nuns who had been handing out copper pills in large quantities for free on the streets back then—
The scene was so open and undisguised, that it was completely transparent.
He nodded in agreement.
"Senior brother."
He raised his finger, and the bronze color spread up his knuckles, turning his entire index finger into a brass-colored cone.
"Bear with it, I'll take care of it for you."
Richard immediately raised his hand and pressed down on his wrist.
"Evan, are you sure?"
He gritted his teeth, his face serious.
"This thing is no ordinary virus."
Ivan smiled, a smile that carried a rare certainty and confidence that belonged to an industry professional.
"Senior brother, what I dealt with was the extraordinary virus."
The next moment, under Richard's slightly suspicious gaze, Ivan's index finger, which had become completely bronze, gently pierced the blackened and festering wound on Richard's chest.
Richard's pupils contracted sharply.
"The copperification of the healing church?"
"wrong!"
Before he could say more, I sensed a change.
The mass inside his chest, gnawing at him like several blood-sucking leeches, was being rapidly pulled from his wound at a speed he had never felt before.
The exhaustion from being devoured for a whole day and night is quickly fading away.
His suppressed bodily functions quickly began to recover and become active again.
"Evan—this is—"
Richard's chest heaved noticeably calmed down, and he stared at Ivan in shock.
"Your new feature?"
Evan nodded: "Yes, it's complete. I'm now an apprentice."
Upon hearing this, Richard paused for half a second, then grabbed the edge of the bed and burst into laughter. Although his laughter was hoarse, it was full of energy.
"OK!"
He grinned happily.
"You've grown so fast! That's fucking amazing."
At the same moment the laughter subsided, Ivan had already completely drained the lesions from the wound.
The copper plague has devoured the crypt plague. The plague swarm has been refined.
[Copper rot engulfed the Streptococcus pyogenes —]
Apart from the new creature, the zombie plague in the crypt at the beginning, the rest were familiar to him.
Feeling his body return to normal, Richard looked up, sighed, stretched his neck, and grinned.
"Junior brother, your special abilities are simply a cure-all!"
As he spoke, he propped himself up on the edge of the bed and pulled a small tin medicine box from the worn-out old canvas pouch at his waist.
He unscrewed the cap, scooped out a glistening dollop of herbal ointment, and carefully applied a layer to the two wounds that were still slowly healing.
After applying the ointment, the two previously menacing scratches visibly began to heal right before Evan's eyes.
Ivan sat on the edge of the bed, resting his chin on his hand, and asked, "Senior brother, who were you fighting with when you were ambushed?"
Richard casually replied, "A witch."
Do you remember the person who cursed you?
Ivan's eyebrows shot up sharply: "Wasn't the one who cursed me some capitalist?"
Richard shook his head: "Witches can also grasp the characteristics of capitalists, just like you can now use the characteristics of the Bloodthirsty race."
"However, the witch lineage doesn't have a specific marker to back up their traits, so these borrowed traits are generally stuck at the expert level forever, unable to go any higher."
"Those of us without extraordinary marks can use any kind of characteristic, but once we've used it all up, we're prone to getting stuck, and the effect of the characteristic will be reduced."
"Especially when you reach the master level, if the characteristics you master conflict with each other, it will be impossible to achieve fusion."
Upon hearing this, Ivan recalled the inherited information from his memories.
The leap from expert to master requires the integration of three characteristics into one, thus completing a life-changing transformation.
Richard slowly raised his head and looked at Ivan's face, which was half outlined by the dim gaslight.
"Evan, you have great talent and a bright future."
"Therefore, you must be extremely careful when choosing extraordinary traits."
Ivan hummed in agreement: "I know, senior brother."
That concludes the warning.
Richard dusted off the edge of the bed: "Oh, right."
"The recipes for Prisna's five potions have been deciphered for us."
"I'll dictate, and you write it down."
Ivan immediately sat up straight.
"it is good."
Richard took a deep breath and began to recite from memory.
"Golden Bottle: Sunfire Potion, Intermediate Potion."
Ivan's eyes lit up instantly, and he grinned, "This one is even more of a heavyweight."
"Within one hour of taking it, your affinity for the sun will be greatly enhanced."
Richard spoke slowly and deliberately.
"Negative effects include permanently reducing sun resistance and permanently reducing blood quality."
Upon hearing this, Ivan frowned.
"Senior brother."
He asked, full of curiosity, "Is the effect of this intermediate-level potion—a bit too weak?"
"Besides, for a bloodthirsty species, a decrease in sunlight resistance isn't really a side effect, is it?"
Richard explained with a smile, "Of course I'm weak, as an ordinary person like me who can't walk the path of the Bloodthirsty Race."
"But this stuff is originally meant for thirsty blood races."
"After drinking one bottle, an ordinary Bloodthirsty Blood type can stand in the sunlight for an hour and withstand attacks from related holy water and relics."
"This move can make up for the core weakness of an entire profession, which is already quite terrifying."
"As for the sunlight resistance category—"
He raised his finger and made a two.
"There's a huge difference between being able to withstand ten seconds in the sun and being able to withstand two seconds."
After hearing these words, Ivan let out a long sigh and exclaimed.
"This old Deng, I never expected him to have taken such a crucial step."
Richard nodded.
"He really is a genius."
Write down the recipe.
He cleared his throat and remained silent for a few seconds to make sure he wasn't mistaken.
"One Flame Essence Core."
Five fresh sunflower seeds.
"Sulfur, 2 ounces (about 56 grams)."
"A lion's tooth, one."
"Standard buffer, one packet."
"Pure water, 3.5 ounces (about 100 grams)."
As Evan listened, he quickly took notes in his mind.
Richard continued, "The first step in the refining process is to draw the Red King's magic circle on the platform."
"Then place the copper crucible in the center of the magic circle and heat it."
"The temperature is maintained between 80 and 90 degrees Celsius."
"After steaming or boiling until it reaches a viscous consistency, it is ready to be used as medicine."
Ivan blinked: "Senior brother."
He asked with a question in his mind.
"Your recipe seems to contain a lot of ambiguous empiricism."
What is the viscous phase?
Richard sighed deeply, "There's nothing I can do."
"Everyone's feel is different, the stove is different, and even the wear and tear on the copper pot in their hands is different."
"These kinds of details can only be discovered by each person gradually figuring them out on their own."
Ivan nodded.
Indeed, this extraordinary world doesn't even have books, let alone standardized experimental records.
The standards of this profession are all hidden in the knuckles and mind of alchemists.
"Green bottle, Moonlight Potion, basic potion."
"Within ten minutes of taking it, it significantly increases the body's flexibility and blood quality."
Negative effects: Decreased blood quality and weakened physical condition.
"Ingredients: a piece of flesh and blood from a young black goat, a shed skin from a snake, a piece of jade, one dose of standard buffer, and 3.5 ounces of purebred thirsty blood."
"This doesn't require drawing a magic circle."
"Put the material directly into the copper crucible and heat it; the rest of the steps are the same as before."
"Did you remember?"
Ivan nodded: "I'll remember, I have a very good memory."
Richard's eyes were filled with envy after hearing this.
"Having a good memory is so convenient."
"I carried these junk around for a whole day before I dared to guarantee that nothing would go wrong."
After making a joke, he continued.
"Blue bottle, Sleeping Potion, Basic Potion."
"After taking it, the target will enter a state of deep sleep for six hours. Their self-healing ability will be greatly enhanced. Their aura will be completely suppressed, and they will enter a state of suspended animation."
Side effects: Mental instability, difficulty concentrating, and permanent reduction in sleep quality within three days.
"Ingredients: One activated mandrake, 20 carats of gold (about 4 grams), 5 ounces of bear brain, one standard buffer, and 10.5 ounces of milk."
Richard then read out the effects and recipes of the other two potions one by one, and Evan had already finished recording them.
He closed his eyes, and the information in his mind seemed to have been carved into his brain stroke by stroke with a carving knife, without any error.
"Yes, I've memorized it all!" Evan said, feeling a little eager to try it out.
He wants to give it a try!
