The Silent Bookstore Manager at Hogwarts
Chapter 50 Three-Headed Dog and Quirrell's Ideas
"You two seem to be having a good chat, so what are you going to do next?"
Reid asked casually, grabbing two books from the restricted section. He had already secretly dealt with the so-called restrictions, as long as they were put back before Mrs. Pins found out.
"Ah, we're trying to figure out how to protect the Philosopher's Stone... We saw a huge three-headed dog in that forbidden corridor room, it's watching a trapdoor, maybe the Philosopher's Stone is there..."
Harry nodded. To be honest, when he first encountered the Cerberus, he actually wanted to grab his weapon and start a thrilling hunt, since no matter how you looked at it, the Cerberus didn't seem like an animal that should be inside Hogwarts.
However, after learning the name of the three-headed dog from Hagrid, who had let it slip, Harry abandoned the idea. Monsters and magical creatures that harm humans can be killed if they are, but it's better not to mess with pets that Hagrid has properly managed. In particular, although the three-headed dog was aggressive and intimidating after discovering the three of them, it didn't actually make any attacking moves.
"So, doesn't that mean we need to deal with the Cerberus issue?"
Red had no intention of getting involved in this matter. He could tell at a glance that Dumbledore was setting things up. Although Red guessed that Dumbledore had already figured out who wanted to harm Harry, for some reason Dumbledore just didn't want to deal with it, as if he had made up his mind to let Harry get involved.
"Would anyone really want a first-year wizard to solve the problem?" Red frowned. Dumbledore's thoughts were so conflicted that Red couldn't make a precise judgment. He even suspected that one of the reasons Dumbledore was so at ease was that Red would protect Harry. But honestly, could Red stand up to Professor Quirrell by himself? Red himself didn't have the answer to that question.
Therefore, he sought out Professor Quirrell, who now seemed very strange. Throughout the teaching process, he kept hesitating to speak, but finally managed to utter a single sentence.
"Red, do you desire even greater power?"
The opening was so clichéd that Red began to suspect Quirrell was giving orders to the person controlling him.
"An even greater power?"
Of course, in order to keep the show going, Red still pretended to be very curious.
"Exactly, Red... You should know that normally we don't teach these things to first-year wizards; these are spells classified as dark magic."
The classification of black magic is very broad. Of course, the most obvious, or what everyone thinks is the most obvious characteristic, is that the use of black magic requires a certain amount of malice. The stronger the malice, the more powerful the black magic spell will be.
However, Red skipped the malice stage. For him, the release of spells was simply the arrangement and combination of magic, or rather, the command of magic. As long as he had this need, magic would serve him.
"But you did it anyway."
Red used a respectful form of address. He disliked Quirrell and the smell of rotten garlic, but he respected knowledge and Quirrell's status as a professor.
"Yes, because you truly are a genius, Reid... I have never seen a genius like you before, a talent I have never witnessed in my entire life. You deserve this extra instruction, and you deserve even more knowledge..."
As he said this, Quirrell became unconsciously excited. He looked at Red as if he were looking at his most valued apprentice.
"So what should I do?"
"It's very simple, Red... I just need you to study harder, and I will tell you more and more knowledge. As long as you can understand it, I will tell you as much as you can."
Quirrell's excitement and fervor when he talked about knowledge were genuine; perhaps this was the only time he, as a Rakvenlaw, would show such an expression.
"You really are a Lakvinlao..."
Reid's words startled Quirrell, who then smiled sheepishly.
"Sorry, I was still too excited. What do you think?"
"I have no reason to refuse, but Professor, I have a personal question I hope you can answer... What exactly is hidden in that room on the fourth floor near the corridor?"
Quirrell was taken aback. He clearly hadn't expected Red to ask such a question. Shouldn't Red have asked about academics or spells?
"Actually... I don't know much about it either. Headmaster Dumbledore had a three-headed dog guarding that room, so I didn't inquire about it further..."
Quirrell thought for a while, and finally told everyone he knew.
"If you really want to know, I can only tell you that the three-headed dog is guarding something unusual. Of course, I personally don't recommend you take the risk. It's a three-headed dog, and even a regular wizard would have a hard time dealing with it, let alone a junior wizard."
Quirrell offered this reminder, but he knew Red wouldn't give up. The more talented a young wizard was, the more curious he would be about the three-headed dog, and he knew Red was the classmate of Harry, the one Voldemort wanted to kill...
"If Harry could die in the jaws of Cerberus, that wouldn't be a bad idea..."
Quirrell thought to himself that the three-headed dog's aggression was not difficult to deal with. As a professor, he had many ways to drive the three-headed dog into a temporary frenzy. Of course, Voldemort behind his head was only basically satisfied with his ideas.
"A three-headed dog?"
Of course, Quirrell knew about Harry's claim of single-handedly defeating the troll, and he himself was skeptical of its credibility. However, since Harry might indeed possess such fighting ability...
Quirrell touched his hat. Voldemort wanted the Philosopher's Stone that Hagrid had taken. Although anyone could see it was a trap, Voldemort didn't have much time to wait. Even if it was a trap, he had to step into it and take the risk.
"Alright, that's all for today's after-school time... Reid, I look forward to your future achievements."
Quirrell said from the bottom of his heart that although he felt that this genius would most likely be destroyed by Voldemort in the end, he wholeheartedly wished that the genius could grow up normally before that happened.
"Professor Quirrell, if you had one chance to choose, what would you do...?"
Red didn't finish his sentence, maintaining a sense of mystery, since he probably wouldn't appear in his physical form the next time he met Professor Quirrell.
