My wife is a magical girl, how can I be the villain?
Chapter 61 The Magic of Seeing Through Everything
Wei Cheng is a folk wizard who does not belong to any faction. He is openly known as a law-abiding magic enthusiast and is also a member of the Wizards' Co-Protection Tower.
There is no wizard who is not a member of the Tower of Common Protection.
Since the Void invaded and the projection from beyond the Magic Realm descended, countless plants and treasures have been imbued with the aura of magic. A lucky few are able to "imitate" magical girls and use these magically imbued objects, or mediums, to cast spells that are otherwise inaccessible.
Wei Cheng was one of the lucky ones.
Five years have passed since he discovered his affinity for magic and became a professional wizard.
Wei Cheng was originally just an unemployed vagrant living in a tiny 10-square-meter room. Every day, he would wake up to the door being knocked on by rent collectors. Even if he secretly climbed out the window to wander around all day, he couldn't find any work to do.
I'm too weak to carry bricks, I don't have the qualifications for an office job, and I don't have the skills to set up a street stall.
Sometimes he would stand outside the mobile phone store, craving a handful of phones, wishing he could go in and grab one... But Wei Cheng knew his own physical abilities.
Fortunately, times have changed, and a trace of affinity magic has appeared within him, allowing him to sense magic stones and magic, thus becoming a wizard.
Because of his physical aversion to official work, thinking, "Who would want to be a beast of burden when they have magic!", he did not choose to join the Anti-Magic Department like most people. Instead, he studied magic out of interest, lived in a poorly managed area on the outskirts of the city, and "showed off his skills" in front of ordinary people as a wizard.
Many ordinary people admire him, and many forces will seek his help whenever they are in trouble... Although ordinary people often use magical girls to belittle them online, they still have to be polite to each other in real life.
Without the support of wizards from official research departments, there is a severe shortage of spellcasting practice, magical research, and even the most essential medium.
These things are priceless and unavailable anywhere. Even if Wei Cheng were to smuggle them out on the black market, it would be an unbearable burden.
So he came up with an idea: City Hunter.
Because of his frequent battles, his magical combat skills are excellent. His timing and the rhythm of spellcasting are much better than those useless anti-magic troops.
That's what he thinks...
"Those guys just form an impenetrable wall, exhausting and pulling away the Void Beasts. It's like shooting at a moving target, so boring!" Wei Cheng often boasted to his friends at the dinner table.
"I fight against clever and cunning humans. Their spells are ever-changing, and you never know what they are good at. My ability to win every battle is just luck... I just know a bit more magic."
Wei Cheng's smile practically wafted into his drink, and the others certainly didn't believe he was just lucky. Although most of their assessments of other wizards were exaggerated, his ability to survive until now demonstrated that his understanding of magical combat was indeed superior to his "peers."
Magic is like a special metal, which can be hard or soft; it is a science fiction material that does not exist in reality.
Some people can study magic to create different effects and find convenient uses for it.
Some people can gain inspiration from the battles of magical girls and create spells that are more suitable for wizards.
Wei Cheng, on the other hand, knew nothing about these things; all he knew was how to skillfully fire bullets from his magical "gun."
No matter what techniques others have mastered, if they are not well prepared beforehand, they can easily be caught off guard when facing him. Every overconfident enemy has made this mistake in front of him.
Today, I taught a lesson to a wizard who was tinkering with spell research. The wizard had purchased a large amount of media for his clients as a reserve, but had yet to produce any results.
Unable to repay the money and still trying to renege on his promise, Wei Cheng went directly to his door, quickly and easily bricked the other party into a wall, leaving him alive, and stole everything from his laboratory.
This includes a semi-finished detection technique.
[The magic that sees through everything].
Using the magic circle placed in his eyes as a guide and magic as a medium for energy, he casts spells through the affinity magic within his body. No subtle change in magic in the vicinity can escape his perception.
However, the coverage area is only a ten-meter radius centered on him...
This half-finished product was useless. Wei Cheng handed over most of the spells to the client, keeping only a few as toys. He looked down on these conceptual spells. For combat, he preferred enchantment spells and explosive spells that represented attack.
Then he used the magic of seeing through everything to wander the streets, observing the magical fluctuations of passersby.
Most people have absolutely no magic power; he's no different from someone wearing colored contact lenses...
But coincidentally, a shopping mall that had been abandoned for many years was near the laboratory where the wizard had been taught a lesson. He had never known there was such an abandoned building, and with the intention of finding treasure, he swaggered into the abandoned building.
"Who knows what shady wizarding deals might be hidden here... This is a good place, let's see if there's any opportunity?"
Wei Cheng rubbed his hands together, somewhat excitedly walking deeper into the area, the eerie and dark atmosphere not affecting his steps at all.
Please, he can use magic now. If there are ghosts, let's have a fight!
More importantly, he "saw" the magical scent in the air, a dim arc shining into his eyes.
Wei Cheng grinned silently, surprised that the brain-dead wizard's worthless spell actually had some use...
Wizards all have a certain degree of ability to sense magic, but Wei Cheng knew he couldn't sense any trace of magic in the air.
This is clearly the effect of the magic circle in the eye, and judging from the faint aura floating in the air, this "trace" has been there for many days. If it hadn't been detected by the spell, a normal person standing in it wouldn't have been able to perceive it.
We've found the treasure!
Excitedly, he followed the silken thread in the air, down the escalator, through the corridor, and into the basement.
Even though the magical aura had dissipated for so many days, it still lingered, so there must be something good down there. Wei Cheng knew that luck and risk went hand in hand, and he wouldn't let joy cloud his judgment.
He carefully bent over and walked quietly to the roller shutter door. Behind the door, many twinkling stars appeared, which, for a spell that could see through everything, represented an abundance of magic.
The old, rusty roller shutter door wasn't locked. He excitedly lifted it up, and sure enough, it didn't disappoint him!
A dozen or so finished mediums were placed on a dilapidated wooden shelf, along with a pile of natural magic stones. These precious treasures... In all the years he'd been a wizard, he hadn't even managed to collect a third of them!
Wei Cheng rushed forward greedily, and after a final check to make sure there were no restrictions, he grabbed several pieces of food and stuffed them into his pockets. When there was no more room, he tore open the lining of his jacket and continued stuffing.
He grew increasingly excited and increasingly frightened, feeling like a thief breaking into a bank vault, grabbing handfuls of gold from a trolley full of bullion. As the backpack on his shoulder grew heavier, he felt strangely lightheaded.
Then, Wei Cheng suddenly stopped moving, his whole body tense up. It was really painful to suddenly calm down from the blissful state, but this was his way of survival.
Never let emotions cloud your judgment.
He heard footsteps, very faint, deliberately kept quiet.
Wei Cheng continued to cast the unfinished spell (this spell, aside from anything else, requires very little magic power). He couldn't sense even a trace of magic power from the person who had come.
Humans are not wizards; he completely let go of his inhibitions and sneered helplessly.
You're scaring yourself...
They forgot that the other person was an ordinary person, who would definitely be afraid and cautious in a place like this.
He pulled back the roller shutter door, intending to check the situation with his own eyes before shooing away the little mouse that had wandered in...
