My wife is a magical girl, how can I be the villain?
Chapter 145 Moving the Body?
The weather was as sunny as ever, and before the sun set in the afternoon, it shone brightly on the city. The crowds below were endless, as lively as a market.
Tang Ming and Lin Ruoyu walked hand in hand into the funeral home. Along the way, they passed through a series of doors on both sides. All of these branches were fully booked. In front of each branch, groups of people gathered together, loudly exchanging their feelings over the years. Apart from their solemn attire, there was not much sorrow on their faces.
Jiang He was smoking in front of one of the small bars when he saw them. He immediately stubbed out his long cigarette and waved to them. After Tang Ming walked over, Jiang He inexplicably blurted out:
"Are they still arguing?"
"Huh? What..." Tang Ming looked at the other person in surprise, and tightened his grip on Lin Ruoyu's arm.
Jiang He glanced at the two of them, then at their linked arms, and squinted, saying, "Still being awkward? It's been almost a year."
Before Tang Ming could speak, Lin Ruoyu chided, "Don't overthink it. It's just a small disagreement these past couple of days, nothing serious."
Jiang He nodded noncommittally, and Tang Ming punched him lightly. "You have such sharp eyes, huh? Think more about your future, instead of just studying us."
Jiang He has a really sharp eye; he noticed there was something off between the two of them and pointed it out directly. It's only because they both have a good relationship with him that they weren't angry.
Jiang He was his roommate and a popular figure in college, with a great network of friends. Lin Ruoyu also had a good relationship with him through club activities. He was quite handsome and good at organizing events, but he was also a bit irresponsible. Even after graduation, he hadn't settled down and was always exploring outside the city, and who knew when he might die somewhere.
Jiang He smiled but didn't say anything, his whole body swaying as he shook his leg in a nonchalant manner.
"Stop talking about other things, how's it going now?" Tang Ming asked.
Jiang He composed himself and said, "We're still chatting and preparing. Once it starts, our relatives and friends can go inside for a short while. We don't need to go in with them. After the ceremony, we'll be cremated."
"There don't seem to be many people inside..." Tang Ming peeked inside.
"Pan Xiwen doesn't know that many people, so let's leave it at that."
"Should we still go in with them?" Tang Ming looked at Lin Ruoyu, feeling that it wasn't good if there were fewer people around.
Lin Ruoyu nodded obediently: "Okay, we don't need to stand outside like idiots, let's keep each other company."
"That's fine... Let's make a scene and go inside." Jiang He invited the two to enter the museum.
The noise inside was even louder than outside. Several tables were set up along the side of the room, where people were playing mahjong. The clattering of mahjong tiles could also be heard from the side room, while the coffin and flower bed were placed in the center of the room...
The two men's faces twitched, but they calmly bowed in front of the photo, nodded to the family members beside them, and the father went out to greet the relatives. The mother and sister looked tired and confused.
Tang Ming took the tea offered by the staff and placed it in Lin Ruoyu's hand. He then took another cup for himself, pulled Jiang He out of the room, and left Lin Ruoyu inside to chat with her classmates.
"Why is there a group of people playing mahjong here..." Tang Ming pointed inside the room.
"Oh, the trend of turning funerals into celebrations that have become popular in the last two years is actually a tradition from some people's hometowns. They brought it to Fangzhou City, thinking that it would be more lively when people pass away. I've really seen something new here." Jiang He knew he would have questions, so he explained.
"We locals had never seen anything like this before... I've learned something new. No wonder the museums we passed by were all so lively, unlike the serious and dull ones I used to imagine."
"You want to add some heavy rain and dark clouds, huh? You want to cry and wail like the heavens are cold? That's not the way to do it anymore, haha!" Jiang He, as usual, was being irreverent and naturally chimed in, "Everyone's life is tiring, there's no need for that."
"Actually, I'm used to it. Life and death are just a matter of a moment. Who knows, a bubble might appear before your eyes tomorrow, and a Void Beast might pounce out. If you can't accept it, then you can't accept it. For those of us who are alive now... let's just consider accidents as half of life."
"People can always adapt..." Tang Ming nodded slightly, looked the other person up and down and joked, "Is this your reason for enjoying the thrill? You speak so philosophically, could it be that you've been parasitized by a foreign substance? Jiang He is already a fake."
"You can eat anything, but don't say anything!" Jiang He glanced around, then slapped Tang Ming hard on the back, his voice low and menacing. "If someone reports you and you're taken to the Anti-Demon Department for a few days of investigation, that'll be disgusting!"
"Looks like you're quite experienced." Tang Ming relaxed and slumped his shoulders, chatting with Jiang He outside.
During this period of unemployment and job hopping, Tang Ming was so busy that he was exhausted and hadn't had much time to chat with his old friends. When he finally had a chance to meet other friends who had come over, the group of men stood by the wall and chatted about this and that.
Tang Ming glanced at Lin Ruoyu inside the room, who was surrounded by a few friends, being the center of attention. A second or two after he looked over, Lin Ruoyu felt his gaze and looked over, but could only see Tang Ming's profile.
……
As the music and eulogy ended, the crowd walked around the coffin once, completing the ceremony. After the family members knelt in gratitude, they left the scene. The remains will then be taken to the crematorium to wait for cremation. The family members will then find a place to bury the ashes.
The schedule was very tight, and countless families were waiting for the body to be laid to rest. As soon as the ceremony was completed, their rooms were cleaned up and prepared for the next guest who had made an appointment.
Tang Ming walked at the back of the crowd. As he passed the covered walkway, he saw several people dragging a silver, shiny metal box across the courtyard. The box was as long as a person and as tall as half a person.
Tang Ming glanced at it, then looked away, ignoring it.
"Next, we'll go to the city center for dinner. Jiang He has arranged a place; there will be about twenty people," Tang Ming said to Lin Ruoyu.
"Will it be very late tonight?" She was worried about the quality of the Demon Department's work, so she decided to "work overtime for free" because she had to go out again that night.
"After we eat, we might go to a bar to sing karaoke or something. If you don't want to go, we can tell you and leave first," Tang Ming said softly, noticing his wife's hesitation.
"No need... You have fun, I can go back by myself." Lin Ruoyu lowered her eyes awkwardly. She wasn't going home, so how could she find an excuse when Tang Ming was dragging her along?
Tang Ming's expression darkened. In his eyes, Lin Ruoyu was still angry, and it was already a great favor that she had given him face by attending the gathering. He figured there was no need to go up and invite a scolding, so he nodded awkwardly and said nothing more.
The couple walked side by side at the back of the crowd, no longer holding hands, each curiously observing the "interesting" things in the air. An uninformed observer might wonder why these two strangers were standing so close together.
"I'm going to the restroom. You go to the parking lot and meet Jiang He. We'll leave after the cremation is complete." Tang Ming chose to make an excuse to go to the restroom.
"good……"
Lin Ruoyu had just prepared this reason when the other party beat her to it.
"I'm driving now, go sit in the car." Tang Ming took out his keys from his pocket, handed them to Lin Ruoyu, and left.
The funeral home consisted of a ring of low buildings surrounding a large courtyard, with connecting corridors running between the rooms. The restrooms were only located on the opposite side of the courtyard, so Tang Ming had to walk a long way around the corridors to get to the other side.
"Since we're already here, let's have the next one..." Tang Ming sighed to himself.
As soon as Tang Ming stepped out of the restroom, the large silver box reappeared in his line of sight. If he wasn't mistaken, it was being carried by the same people as before.
"Didn't we already move out? Why do we have to move again..." Tang Ming muttered.
He didn't want to go back to find Lin Ruoyu so soon, so he looked back and followed curiously.
He glanced at the group's movements; they all seemed to have come from the direction of the crematorium. They didn't stop in any room and left directly outside the building.
The box was about the length of a person and half the height of a person. Tang Ming "maliciously" guessed that it contained a body. He had thought that these were the ways to move the body to the crematorium after the ceremony, but the other party did the opposite and walked out of the crematorium and out of the building.
Hiss... Tang Ming's curiosity was piqued. He narrowed his eyes, took a few steps back to increase the distance between them, and kept his gaze fixed on the group.
Several men carried boxes to the back of a van next to the funeral home, opened the van door, and the people on the van dragged the heavy boxes inside. Then they closed all the doors, and the men who were carrying the boxes just stood outside the van chatting like idiots.
After a short while, the door opened, and the person inside struggled to push the silver box out. The people outside immediately rushed forward, picked up the silver box, and walked back the way they came...
They got on the bus but didn't leave, just stood there waiting, and then carried the boxes back after a while... These people's behavior was too strange. Tang Ming pinched his chin and hid behind the wall next to him.
Unaware of what was happening, the group carried the boxes into the connecting corridor, heading towards the crematorium.
Tang Ming didn't follow them. Instead, he approached the inconspicuous bread truck. He was very careful; if he disturbed them, he would be finished if a whole truckload of bread people got off.
Tang Ming subconsciously clenched his left fist. The cool metal handle of the suitcase gave him a great sense of security, but unfortunately he was still in the car.
He circled halfway around the car to confirm that there was only one person inside. The high springs on the four wheels indicated that the contents of the car were very light, so his twisted idea that there might be several corpses inside was no longer possible.
Besides, funeral homes are always bustling with people, and moving corpses is a serious crime that doesn't earn much money. Tang Ming couldn't figure out the motive, so he could only attribute it to reading too many crime novels.
He returned to the building, just as the men came out of the crematorium, still carrying the same silver box, which, judging from the marks, was the same box.
Tang Ming's eyelids twitched, and his breathing became inexplicably uneven. He casually glanced at one person's raised arm, which was drooping down with some soreness. Looking at the others, it seemed that they were in the same situation, and the boxes were not being lifted as high as last time.
It seems to have gotten heavier, or maybe they got tired from carrying too much?
But even with all this moving, the bread cart didn't get any heavier. If it wasn't something very heavy, there was no need for four people to carry such a big box back and forth. As far as he could see... it had happened three times already.
Tang Ming felt conflicted. He clicked his tongue and looked at his palm. If he were carrying the briefcase, he wouldn't be afraid at all; he could just go to the car and knock on the door to ask...
Tang Ming's expression froze. He looked at his hands, then carefully examined the large boxes the men were carrying. Although he hadn't touched them, he felt the texture and grain were very similar.
No way...
Suddenly, Tang Ming thought of something, his eyes flickered, and he turned and strode towards the parking lot.
"Ah! You're back?"
Lin Ruoyu was playing on her phone in the passenger seat when Tang Ming suddenly opened the back door, which seemed to startle her. She covered her phone with her lap and turned around in shock.
"It's nothing, a friend has some business to ask me about. I'll take my briefcase."
Tang Ming was preoccupied with his own thoughts and didn't notice Lin Ruoyu's unusual behavior. His eyes were only on the silver briefcase in the back row. He said hello, closed the door, and left.
Lin Ruoyu remained with her head turned away, staring blankly as Tang Ming's figure gradually disappeared before she came to her senses.
She was really startled just now. The back door suddenly opened. Was she too focused? She didn't even feel Tang Ming's footsteps... Lin Ruoyu looked down at her phone. The screen showed a map of magic and anomaly fluctuations generated by monitoring the entire city.
With the briefcase in hand, his sense of security about being able to "summon" the heterogeneous fusion at any time increased dramatically. He strolled back to the original connecting corridor, which was at the very back of the funeral home. There were only a few people there, mostly old smokers looking for a quiet place.
Tang Ming saw that the group of people were still in the same spot, carrying boxes and walking towards the bread truck, even their postures were almost identical.
He certainly didn't think these people were playing a game that had stopped; it could only mean they had moved the goods back and forth and he just happened to stumble upon them.
He quickly walked behind the group, followed them out of the corridor, and was only seven or eight steps away from them.
The men glanced at him, but didn't seem to care and showed no sign of nervousness.
Tang Ming's lips curled up almost imperceptibly. He followed the group to the outside of the funeral home, but fearing they might become suspicious, he didn't follow them any further.
"We'll see where you're shipping it to..."
