Chapter 105 Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva
Song Yi descended from the clouds and landed in front of the hall. He took out the True Lord's token and said, "I am the True Lord of Heaven who bestows calamities and delivers from suffering. I have important matters to discuss with King Qin Guang. Please convey my request."
Upon seeing the divine light flowing over the token and hearing that it was the True Lord himself, the two one-horned demon kings dared not be negligent in the slightest. They immediately bowed and paid their respects, and one of them quickly entered the main hall to report.
Before long, the palace doors opened wide again, but instead of the Ghost King, a judge dressed in a bright red official robe came out.
The judge was thin with three long wisps of beard on his chin. He held a thin book in his hand. When he saw Song Yi, he smiled broadly and cupped his hands, saying, "Greetings, True Lord. I am the Chief Judge under King Qin Guang. King Yama is currently judging a case in the palace and has specially ordered me to come and welcome the True Lord into the palace."
Song Yi nodded slightly and then followed the judge into the hall.
Upon entering the main hall, one is immediately struck by the eerie atmosphere and the presence of numerous ghosts and spirits on either side.
After the divine proceedings above, King Qin Guang sat high on his throne, judging a batch of newly arrived souls in the underworld.
A mirror of karmic retribution hangs high in the void, reflecting all the good and evil deeds of those wandering souls in their previous lives.
Below, several judges hold pens and take notes, occasionally reading out the charges.
The virtuous are rewarded, the wicked are punished, and everything is in perfect order, demonstrating the strictness of the underworld's laws.
After the trial came to a temporary end, King Qin Guang rose from his throne and greeted him with a smile: "Your Excellency has come from afar; you are indeed a rare guest."
Song Yi quickly cupped his hands in greeting and said, "Greetings, Lord Yama."
King Qin Guang waved his hand and said, "True Lord, there's no need for such formalities. Your personal entry into the Underworld must be no ordinary matter, is it?"
"I do indeed have an important matter to ask of King Yama."
Song Yi didn't beat around the bush and said directly: "The Great Heavenly Venerable has issued a decree, ordering me to establish the Department of Dispelling Misfortune and the Department of Resolving Calamities, which are dedicated to sweeping away the bad luck and disasters in the world and protecting all living beings. These two departments have just been established and everything is in need of being rebuilt. The most important issue is the shortage of manpower."
The various departments of Heaven are currently occupied with their own duties, and there are not enough celestial officials and divine officers to spare. Therefore, this humble deity dares to request that King Yama select a group of suitable souls from the Underworld to be guided to ascend to heaven and serve as officials under the two departments.
Upon hearing this, King Qin Guang laughed heartily and waved his hand, saying, "This is a trivial matter; Your Majesty, please rest assured."
He turned and walked back to the judge's desk, whispering a few instructions to the red-robed judge beside him.
The judge in charge of the clerk received the order and quickly went to the back of the hall with the Book of Life and Death in his arms.
Song Yi stood in the hall waiting, his gaze sweeping over the furnishings. He saw that the walls were painted with the Six Realms of Reincarnation: the Heavenly Realm, the Human Realm, the Asura Realm, the Animal Realm, the Hungry Ghost Realm, and the Hell Realm. Each of the six paintings depicted a different scene, and the brushwork was exquisite, inspiring awe in the viewer.
Before long, the judge led over a hundred ghosts out from behind the hall.
These spirits were arranged in neat rows, including men, women, young and old. Some had handsome faces, some had white hair, and some were in their prime. Without exception, each spirit had a faint golden light emanating from its body, an aura that only those with profound blessings possess.
King Qin Guang pointed at these spirits and smiled at Song Yi, saying, "These spirits are all benevolent people in their second or third lives. In each life, they have made many good connections, helped the poor and needy, and accumulated great merit. If they were to reincarnate, they would at least be destined for royalty and nobility, extremely noble. Once they ascend and are granted titles, their cultivation would be many times faster than that of ordinary spirits."
Song Yi nodded in satisfaction and bowed to King Qin Guang in thanks: "Thank you, Lord Yama, for your kindness. You have done me a great favor this time."
King Qin Guang waved his hand and laughed, "You're too kind, True Lord. It's just my duty."
He glanced at the spirits in the hall and added, "If there is any need in the future, True Lord, just send someone to deliver the message, and I can select another batch at any time. The Underworld may not have much else, but it does have some virtuous souls."
Song Yi laughed and said, "With Yama's words, I won't stand on ceremony. Once the two departments are on track, we'll need quite a few celestial officials, and we'll inevitably have to bother Yama again then."
After gathering the hundreds of spirits, he chatted with King Qin Guang for a few moments and was about to take his leave when he suddenly heard faint shouts of killing coming from afar.
The sound pierced through layers of dark clouds, mixed with Buddhist chants and the clanging of metal. At times it was solemn and grand, at other times it was tragic and desolate. Even though it was thousands of miles away, it still shook people's hearts and minds.
King Qin Guang, however, appeared quite calm. He picked up the teacup on the table, took a sip, and said slowly, "True Lord, there is no need to be surprised. This is Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva, who is stationed at the foot of Yin Mountain, leading a million Buddhist soldiers in a war against the Asura clan. Over the past hundred years, the two sides have fought several battles, large and small, with victories and defeats on both sides. To my underworld, this is nothing new."
Having spent so many years in the Heavenly Court, Song Yi knows quite a bit about Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva.
During the great war of the Investiture of the Gods, the Tongtian Sect Master of the Jie Sect set up the Zhuxian Sword Formation, which could not be broken by any of the Four Sages.
At the invitation of Yuanshi Tianzun and Taishang Laojun, the Western Daoist masters Jieyin and Zhunti came to help, breaking the Zhuxian Sword Formation and relieving the Daoist sect's urgent crisis.
The two saints of the East thus incurred a tremendous karmic debt to the Western religion.
Later, Western religions evolved into Buddhism, and this cause and effect became the basis for Buddhism to intervene in the power of reincarnation.
It was during this opportunity that Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva made the great vow, "I will not become a Buddha until hell is emptied."
The moment that grand vow was made, the heavens trembled and bestowed boundless and immense merit.
Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva manifested six great emanations through this merit: Jewel Ksitigarbha, Seal Ksitigarbha, Earth-Holder Ksitigarbha, Obstacle-Removing Ksitigarbha, Sunlight Ksitigarbha, and Danda Ksitigarbha.
With the seven avatars merging into one and the original being becoming one, he stepped into the realm of quasi-saints and became a great bodhisattva of great importance in Buddhism.
From then on, Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva led his Buddhist army to garrison at the foot of Yinshan Mountain, taking it upon himself to deliver all the Asuras from suffering.
Seeing that Song Yi was lost in thought and remained silent, King Qin Guang assumed that he was interested in the great battle, so he smiled and said, "If True Lord has nothing to do, you might as well go and watch the battle. The battle between Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva and the Asura clan is a grand spectacle in the Underworld. Ordinary immortals and gods don't have the chance to witness it. If True Lord is interested, I can send the Ghost King to lead the way."
Song Yi had been wanting to go and see for himself, so he didn't refuse and cupped his hands, saying, "Then I'll have to trouble Lord Yama."
King Qin Guang immediately summoned a one-horned ghost king outside the palace and instructed him: "You will lead the True Lord to the front line of Yin Mountain. Be careful along the way. If anything goes wrong, I will hold you accountable."
The one-horned demon king immediately bowed and accepted the order.
Song Yi bid farewell to King Qin Guang, rode on a cloud, and followed the Ghost Dynasty deep into the underworld.
Yinshan is located in the deepest part of the underworld, extremely far from the Qin Guangwang Palace.
Song Yi flew swiftly on the clouds, with the One-Horned Ghost King leading the way. They passed through layers of dark mist and crossed ghost cities. After flying for about two or three hours, they finally saw a towering, incomparably majestic black mountain in the distance.
The mountain was about a million feet high, completely black, without any vegetation, and its rocks were as hard as iron, exuding a chilling aura.
The mountaintop pierces the sky and disappears into the boundless darkness, its summit invisible.
It is Yinshan.
Behind Yinshan Mountain lies an endless, blood-red ocean.
The sea of blood was vast and boundless, stretching as far as the eye could see. The water was not ordinary water, but thick, dark red blood, churning endlessly.
Countless skeletons and broken souls float on the sea, and the stench can be smelled from a thousand miles away.
This is the most yin, filthy, fierce, and evil place in the world, the dojo of the Styx Lord, and the birthplace of the Asura race.
