Having received the decree from the Supreme Dao Ancestor, even Lu Qingxuan, who was familiar with the plot of Journey to the West, couldn't help but feel worried.

In the original story, the three demons of Chechi Kingdom died tragically. Although he has now become a disciple of the Supreme Dao Ancestor, it is inevitable that some strange changes will occur.

The tide had turned, and who knew if the Supreme Dao Ancestor would eventually step in to save his life?

Thinking of this, Lu Qingxuan sighed, feeling lost and confused.

The two boys, Jin and Yin, comforted him and even returned the two gourds of pills that Lu Qingxuan had given them earlier, along with some magical treasures and spiritual medicines.

In their eyes, the mortal realm was full of suffering, and it was nothing like the peaceful life in heaven. Their junior brother was really unlucky!

Seeing the regretful expressions on their faces, Lu Qingxuan found it amusing. He guessed that the two of them didn't know that he was also going down to the mortal realm, otherwise they wouldn't have given him these treasures.

Lu Qingxuan didn't say much about this, as the saying goes, heavenly secrets cannot be revealed, and that's how it is.

Take care, my two senior brothers...

After quickly packing his belongings, Lu Qingxuan descended to the mortal realm.

...

As the saying goes, a day in heaven is equivalent to a year on earth.

He had been a disciple of the Supreme Master for several hundred days, which, in human years, was equivalent to several hundred years. The world had changed drastically. Fortunately, thanks to his memories of the Journey to the West and the information imparted to him by the Supreme Dao Ancestor, he did not go astray.

However, before going to Chechi Kingdom, he needed to go to Zhongnan Mountain to establish a relationship with the immortals Huli and Yangli.

Lu Qingxuan was not unfamiliar with Zhongnan Mountain; in a way, it was his second hometown. He had cultivated there before being accepted as a disciple by the Supreme Dao Ancestor, but because he was not clear about his own identity at the time, he did not have much contact with other demons in Zhongnan Mountain.

It will probably take some trouble to find the two demons, Huli and Yangli, now.

After traveling for about half a day, the clouds beneath Lu Qingxuan's feet thinned out. Looking down, he saw a mountain range stretching across the land, extending east to west for thousands of miles.

The mountain is so majestic that it pierces the clouds, with clouds and mist swirling around its waist, where waterfalls and springs can be faintly seen.

This is Zhongnan Mountain.

Since Lao Tzu left Hangu Pass to the west, Zhongnan Mountain has become a sacred place for Taoist practitioners. Throughout history, countless hermits and sages have built thatched huts and practiced their cultivation here, and among them, there were many spirits and monsters.

Lu Qingxuan took a deep breath and felt a refreshing spiritual energy flow into his dantian through his meridians, making him feel incredibly comfortable all over.

If I hadn't been accepted as a disciple by the Supreme Dao Ancestor, this place would indeed be the best choice for cultivation.

But where are the tiger's strength and the sheep's strength?

The Zhongnan Mountains stretch for hundreds of miles with countless peaks. Finding these two guys in this vast mountain range is like finding a needle in a haystack.

After thinking for a moment, Lu Qingxuan decided to ask someone.

He casually changed his attire and became a young Taoist priest, which made him less conspicuous.

Following the ridge down, Lu Qingxuan soon found human voices in a bamboo forest.

On a mountain path, an old man with gray hair walked ahead, leaning on a bamboo cane, while two young men behind him carried bamboo baskets, seemingly heading into the mountains to collect herbs.

Lu Qingxuan quickly stepped forward, cupped his hands in a salute, and said, "Please wait, sir."

Hearing the voice, the old man stopped and glanced at Lu Qingxuan. Seeing that he was a young Taoist priest, he kindly asked, "What can I do for you, Taoist Master?"

"I am new to this place and would like to ask you something, sir," Lu Qingxuan said sincerely.

"Please speak freely, Daoist Master. I will answer all your questions without reservation," the old man said with a smile.

"Old sir, do you know of any extraordinary beings residing in the Zhongnan Mountains?"

The old man blinked. "Extraordinary? What do you mean, Taoist priest?"

Lu Qingxuan paused for a moment. He couldn't very well ask directly if you had seen two monsters; that might cause a misunderstanding. After considering his words for a moment, he said, "For example, spirits and monsters."

The old man paused for a moment, then burst into laughter.

The two young men laughed along, which left Lu Qingxuan somewhat bewildered.

"Master, if you went five hundred miles north to those desolate mountains and wilderness, you might be able to find out something, but in Zhongnan Mountain... there are no demons." The old man shook his head, his tone resolute.

"No demons?"

"No demons," the old man repeated, paused, and then added, "but there are immortals."

Immortal?

Lu Qingxuan was somewhat surprised.

Seeing his interest, the old man sat down on a rock, seemingly recalling something worth mentioning.

The two young men sat down beside him and took out a water bottle from the bamboo basket, handing it to the old man.

"Master, you may not know this," the old man said slowly after taking a sip of water. "This Zhongnan Mountain spans eight hundred li and has been a celestial abode since ancient times. Lao Tzu preached here, Yin Xi cultivated here, and in the early Han Dynasty, there were the Four Sages of Shang Mountain. Which one of them wasn't a celestial being whose name is etched in history? Ordinary demons probably couldn't stay here at all."

Lu Qingxuan nodded; that was the truth.

Places rich in spiritual energy are either blessed lands of immortals or dens of demons; the two are often incompatible.

It is indeed unlikely that any ferocious demons would appear in a secluded place like Zhongnan Mountain.

"The immortals you're talking about are...?"

The old man's eyes lit up. "Speaking of this, it is truly a blessing for the people around Zhongnan Mountain. About several decades ago, two immortals came to the mountain. One had a tiger's face and a human body, and was very imposing. The other had a sheep's face and a human body, and was kind and benevolent. At first, everyone was startled when they saw them, thinking that some monster from another mountain had come over."

Lu Qingxuan felt a chill run down his spine.

A tiger's face and a human body, a sheep's face and a human body—isn't that the power of a tiger and the power of a sheep?

"And then?"

"And then..."

The old man stroked his beard, his smile widening: "Everyone has discovered that these two are not monsters, but truly virtuous immortals. That year, there was a severe drought around Zhongnan Mountain. From early spring to June, not a single drop of rain fell. The crops withered, and even the wells ran dry. The officials in the county set up an altar to pray for rain, praying for forty-nine days, but not a single drop came."

At this point, the old man became even more excited.

"Just when everyone was about to despair, the two immortals came down from the mountain. They set up an altar on an earthen platform outside the city, and then dark clouds rolled in, lightning flashed and thunder roared. In less than the time it takes for an incense stick to burn, a torrential rain poured down, and it rained for a whole day and night, saving the lives of countless people within hundreds of miles!"

The two young men behind him nodded in agreement, their faces full of reverence: "From then on, the two immortals became famous. They not only prayed for rain, but also exorcised evil spirits, cured diseases, and prayed for blessings. Whenever the people were in trouble, they would lend a helping hand. Over the years, they have never asked for a single penny."

Listening to the three talking back and forth, Lu Qingxuan fell silent. In the original story, the three demons fought with Sun Wukong and died tragically one by one. They were a menace and obstacles on the journey of Tang Sanzang and his disciples to obtain the scriptures.

But the old man in front of him was talking about living gods who saved people from suffering.

The difference is just too big, isn't it?
