Hong Kong: Black Gold Tycoons

Chapter 9 Driving Brother 4's Car

"Hurry, hurry!"

Inside a van with the words "City Insights" on its body.

The reporter, Le Huizhen, kept urging the driver on.

"Miss, this is the fastest this car can go. How much faster can I go?" The fat driver looked helpless, then added, "Do you really believe someone will break some big news?"

Lok Wai-ching said, "I don't know, but we can't let any clue slip by."

Her segment is a new one launched by RTV, and it hasn't achieved anything remarkable yet. If it continues to be so mediocre, she might lose her job.

So after receiving Chen Fei's call, despite being somewhat skeptical, he still rushed to Haicheng Grand Restaurant.

"Alright, you're the boss, you call the shots." The fat man shrugged, then asked, "Did that person say where they'd be waiting for us?"

"The phone booth next to the parking lot of Haicheng Grand Hotel," Yue Huizhen said. "We'll go straight to the parking lot later."

We have the address.

The fat man stepped on the gas and drove into the parking lot.

As Lok Wai-ching was searching for a phone booth, she suddenly heard the fat man say, "Isn't that Deborah? She's at the nightclub again. Do you think that guy next to her is her new lover? Should we go take pictures of her?"

"What's so strange about Deborah coming to a nightclub?" Lok Wai-ching said dismissively. "We see her all the time in the newspapers, so taking pictures won't do any good. Hurry up and find me a phone booth."

No sooner had he finished speaking than a loud bang was heard.

boom!

Flames shot into the sky ahead, thick smoke billowed, and shockwaves carrying debris flew in all directions.

The fat man instinctively jerked the steering wheel, causing the van to sway a few times due to inertia, leaving a black mark on the ground from the tires.

He slammed on the brakes, lurching forward and nearly hitting his forehead on the steering wheel.

"Holy crap!" the fat man exclaimed, his eyes wide. "What's going on?"

The loud noise made Lok Wai-ching's ears ring, but her eyes were fixed on the firelight in front of her.

The next moment, she ordered the fat man, "Go over there quickly!"

"Are you crazy? There was just an explosion over there." The fat man turned to look at her, his face full of disbelief.

"That's the real big news because of the explosion!" Lok Wai-ching exclaimed excitedly. "Hurry up and come over after you've parked your car!"

At this moment, she had already forgotten the revelations made during that phone call.

The fat man watched her retreating figure, cursed under his breath, and quickly turned off the engine, pulled the handbrake, and got out of the car with the camera.

Lok Wai-ching saw thick, acrid smoke at the scene, charred fragments scattered on the ground, several trash cans blown beyond recognition, and a car window shattered nearby, with glass shards scattered all over the ground.

He immediately told the fat man to turn on the camera: "See this? This is big news. We're the first program to arrive on the scene, and we have to get an exclusive scoop."

Just as the fat man picked up the camera, he saw a figure running quickly toward them.

As he ran, he shouted, "I am Chan Ka-kui from West Kowloon CID! What are you doing here? Don't linger."

Lok Wai-ching immediately greeted him: "Hello, Mr. Chan, I'm Lok Wai-ching, a reporter from the 'City Insider' program. May I ask what happened here? Was that explosion a bomb or something else?"

"No comment," Chen Jiaju said, frowning. "This area is now sealed off. Please leave immediately to prevent any accidents."

Seeing his expression, Lok Wai-ching became even more certain that something big must have happened.

He pressed further, "Inspector Chan, are you in such a hurry to get rid of us because there's a bomb?"

The reason she keeps mentioning the word "bomb" is because nothing else is interesting enough; she has to say something sensational.

"I didn't say that, please don't interfere with my work!" Chen Jiaju was all alone and couldn't be in two places at once, so he had to call Chen Fei for help. "Brother Fei, please help me handle this! I'll go call someone."

Upon hearing this, the fat man immediately pointed his camera at the side.

Lok Wai-ching looked over and saw a handsome young man walking toward them.

The woman next to him was none other than Deborah.

Lok Wai-ching began, "Hello, I'm Lok Wai-ching, a reporter from the 'City Insider' program. I'd like to interview you. What was that explosion just now?"

Chen Fei carefully examined her.

She has a similar temperament to Chingmy Yau, and although she is equally charming, her facial features are still different from Chingmy Yau's.

"Hello, we just talked on the phone," Chen Fei said.

"Are you the whistleblower from the phone call?" Lok Wai-ching's eyes immediately lit up. "Sir, what's the big scoop you're talking about? Is it the explosion that just happened here?"

Chen Fei shook his head and said, "The revelation I mentioned is related to Miss Di."

"What does this have to do with me?" Deborah's expression changed slightly. "I guess I'll just stay off the camera."

Chen Fei immediately said sternly, "How can you not appear on camera? Those people not only want to kidnap you, but they might also want to blow you up. That bomb might even be meant for you. Such violent behavior deserves strong condemnation!"

When Lok Wai-ching heard the words "kidnapping" and "bomb," her eyes instantly lit up like light bulbs.

She immediately pressed, "Kidnapping? Bomb? Sir, are all of these things true?"

"Absolutely true." Chen Fei said solemnly, "Miss Di was almost kidnapped by a group of kidnappers tonight, and it seems they were carrying a bomb."

When Deborah saw the fat man's camera pointed at her, she immediately covered her face with her hands: "Don't film me!"

"Miss Di!" Yue Huizhen's tone became earnest. "You are a victim. If you don't speak out, how will the public know what you went through? How will the masterminds behind those kidnappers be exposed?"

Deborah bit her lip, her eyes flickering.

Chen Fei spoke up at the opportune moment: "Miss Di, Reporter Le is right. If you don't stand up, those people will only become more arrogant. Besides, tonight's incident has caused such a big commotion. If you don't speak up, the newspapers will write all sorts of nonsense tomorrow. Rather than letting others make things up, you might as well speak up yourself."

Deborah hesitated for several seconds before finally nodding.

"But I'll only answer a few questions."

"No problem!" Yue Huizhen asked quickly, "Miss Di, may I ask what brings you to Haicheng Grand Restaurant tonight?"

"Have a meal."

"When did you find out someone was going to kidnap you?"

Deborah glanced at Chen Fei: "It was this Mr. Chen who informed me."

Lok Wai-ching's eyes darted back and forth between Chen Fei and Deborah.

A mysterious man gave an early warning, Deborah escaped unharmed, and an explosion occurred at the scene—these threads, when strung together, are enough to write an explosive report.

"Then do you know who wants to harm you?"

Deborah shook her head, indicating that she did not know.

Yue Huizhen then asked Chen Fei, "Sir, how did you know someone wanted to harm Miss Di? Who exactly is it?"

Chen Fei said, "Reporter Yue, I'm still investigating who exactly they are, but I only found out by overhearing the kidnappers' conversation, and they mentioned a magazine."

"What magazine?" Yue Huizhen pressed.

"New Knowledge Weekly"

Lok Wai-ching's eyes brightened even more.

She certainly knew about "New Knowledge" Weekly. It was a gossip magazine that specialized in reporting on the inner workings of the underworld and photos of porn stars. It sold very well among lower-class readers, but its reputation was mixed.

If this kidnapping case is related to "New Knowledge" magazine, then it would be a bombshell.

"Mr. Chen, are you sure the kidnappers mentioned 'New Knowledge' magazine?"

"Confirmed." Chen Fei nodded. "I overheard them saying they wanted to kidnap Miss Di to take nude photos, and they even mentioned things like 'boss' and 'General Manager Luo.' However, this is just what I heard, and it may not necessarily be the work of the people from 'New Knowledge.' We'll have to wait for the police investigation to find out the specifics. But I also knocked out a few of the kidnappers."

He spoke with great restraint, but to Yue Huizhen, the word "not necessarily" meant "definitely."

Not to mention the kidnappers.

She immediately told the fat man to take pictures of the kidnappers and came up with a headline in her mind: "Deborah is kidnapped and threatened, the mastermind points to 'New Knowledge' Weekly."

Chen Jiaju was busy making phone calls to request assistance and didn't have time to stop the others.

Besides those few thugs, Chen Fei also took out a remote control and praised Chen Jiaju to the skies, using adjectives like "guardian of the people" and "nemesis of evil."

Just then, the kidnappers woke up and, upon discovering they had been kidnapped, realized their scheme had been exposed.

They weren't exactly strong-willed people to begin with, and when they learned there was a bomb exploding at the scene, they were all terrified. Chen Fei only gave them a few words of mild intimidation, and they rushed to tell him the whole story.

All they knew was that someone had paid them to kidnap Deborah and take nude photos, but they had no idea whether the person behind it was the "New Knowledge" weekly magazine.

They also claimed to be unaware of the bomb incident.

Chen Fei wondered if their boss had seen them knocked unconscious and wanted to kill them to silence them.

Although this reason is far-fetched, it is still a reason.

After hearing the bandits' confessions, Deborah finally believed that someone really wanted to harm her.

And he even attempted to do those heinous things to himself.

Although the information revealed by the bandits was vague, Lok Wai-ching was overjoyed. This was truly a major revelation!

This news story is definitely on point.

Upon hearing the sound of police sirens, Chen Fei said, "Reporter Le, I need to take Miss Di home first; she was frightened tonight."

After trying to persuade him for a couple of minutes, and seeing that he was unwilling to say anything more, Yue Huizhen could only say, "Sir, thank you for the tip. This is my business card. If you have any further information, please feel free to contact me."

Chen Fei took the business card, glanced at it, and put it in his pocket.

"Brother Fei, I need to take care of these things now. I'll invite you for tea tomorrow," Chen Jiaju said to Chen Fei.

Because his superior, Uncle Biao, made an exception and allowed him to temporarily return to his original position and handle the kidnapping and bombing cases.

Lok Wai-ching then turned to Deborah: "Ms. Deborah, if it's convenient, could we arrange a formal interview tomorrow? We can find a quiet place to have a good talk about what happened tonight."

Deborah hesitated for a moment, then nodded.

After Chen Fei and Deborah left.

The fat man then asked, "You really believe what that guy said? That *New Knowledge* magazine is going to kidnap Deborah?"

"Whether you believe it or not is not important," said Lok Wai-ching. "What's important is that the audience believes it. Now let's go interview Inspector Chan."

Inside the departing Ferrari, Deborah belatedly realized, "Who exactly are you?"

"When you came into the nightclub, you mistook me for a parking attendant. I was just going to return the keys, and then I heard something like this," Chen Fei said. "I hate people like that the most!"

Deborah suddenly realized and said gratefully, "So it was you. Thank you for tonight. I can't even imagine what would have happened if it weren't for you."

This included kidnapping to take explicit photos and bomb threats, which put her mind on a rollercoaster ride.

After saying that, he leaned back in his chair, let out a long breath, and tried to calm himself down.

Chen Fei glanced at her and reminded her, "Miss Di, you've exposed yourself."

"Would you like to watch more?" Deborah asked calmly.

"Is it really okay?" Chen Fei lightly tapped the brake and said, "I want to drive Fourth Brother's car from inside Fourth Brother's car."

Deborah, a seasoned nightclub regular, immediately understood the implication.

She glanced at Chen Fei and said slowly, "Fourth Brother won't agree."

"It doesn't matter whether Fourth Brother agrees or not, as long as you agree."

Even if I agreed, would you dare?
