Peninsula: My Top-Tier Landlord

Chapter 76: Where to Go for the New Year

It was getting late, and Ye Fan had to go to work the next day, so he lost interest in live streaming. He turned off the lights and the TV, took a shower, and went back to bed.

Instead of receiving news that Bae Joo-hyun had arrived home, I received a call from her.

They lay in bed chatting about this and that, having long phone conversations. Tonight, Bae Joo-hyun fell asleep first, but Ye Fan didn't hang up; the call remained on.

Although Christmas is over, the festive atmosphere remains, and New Year's Eve is just around the corner. While at the institution, Ye Fan overheard teachers and students discussing where to go for New Year's Eve.

During lunch, He Zhonglei asked Ye Fan about his plans, suggesting he go out for a get-together, perhaps to a pub for a few drinks to liven things up, and he could bring his girlfriend along. They could go see the fireworks later when it was almost time.

Ye Fan refused outright. Even if Bae Joo-hyun wasn't bringing anything, he couldn't bring anything either.

If these guys find out that the girlfriend he's talking about is Bae Joo-hyun, he's doomed.

Ye Fan had just gotten home and started making dinner when he received a call from his father, asking if he had a holiday for New Year's Eve and if so, whether he wanted to come home for dinner on New Year's Day.

"I'm not going back. It's just a day off, it's too much trouble to go back and forth."

It would take up most of the day just to go back and forth. There's no need to run around for a meal. You might as well just stay in your rented room and relax.

"Alright, so you're planning to take your annual leave too, right? When are you coming back?"

"Well, I'll be on annual leave at the end of next month. As for whether I'll go back or not..." Ye Fan hesitated when this topic came up.

"He probably won't reply."

"Huh?" Ye Fan had just finished speaking when he heard his father's puzzled voice coming through the microphone.

Why aren't you replying?

Are you lying alone in your rented room?

"I don't want to go back. It's just about eating during the New Year, nothing much happens. Besides, if I go back, all you guys will be urging me to find a partner. So I'm not going back," Ye Fan said.

Am I that kind of person?

"yes!"

"And who knows, it might be you and Mom working together to urge me on. My ears can't take your nagging."

"The user you are trying to reach is currently on another call. Please try again later..."

Bae Joo-hyun frowned. "Is he on a call? Who is Ye Fan talking to at this hour?"

"What's wrong, unnie? Isn't your brother-in-law answering your calls?"

"No, he's on another call, and I don't know who he's talking to." Bae Joo-hyun shook her head, put down her phone, and planned to call back later.

Kang Seulgi ate a potato chip. "She's probably on the phone with her family. Tomorrow is New Year's Eve, and the next day is New Year's Day, the first day of the new year. She's probably asking her brother-in-law if he wants to come home for dinner or something."

The New Year's Day holiday is a time for friends to get together or for families to gather.

"Maybe." Bae Joo-hyun nodded, guessing that might be the reason. Her mother had called her today, asking if she wanted to go back for New Year's Day. The main topic of conversation was Ye Fan, and she said that if she went back, she would see if Ye Fan wanted to come back for a meal together.

"But unnie, are you only calling your brother-in-law now? Don't you send messages anymore?" Kang Seulgi put another potato chip in her mouth and chewed.

Two days passed, and every night they saw this older sister and her husband on the phone. Every time they talked, they would run back to their room and talk for a long time.

"Why send a message? It's definitely better to make a phone call," Son Seungwan said sarcastically from the side.

"It seems your guess is about to come true, Seulgi. Your brother-in-law will soon be your brother-in-law!"

"What guess?" Bae Joo-hyun looked at Seulgi with a puzzled expression. What had she said behind her back?

"I was just guessing when you and your brother-in-law would become a real couple. I guess it was at the beginning of the year," Kang Seulgi said with a sheepish smile, making no attempt to hide anything.

Why?

Upon hearing this speculation about the timing, Bae Joo-hyun frowned, just as puzzled as Son Seung-wan had been when she first heard it.

Just as Kang Seulgi was about to explain, Bae Joo-hyun's phone rang. After glancing at the number on the screen, Bae Joo-hyun swiped to answer and got up to return to her room. The doubt on her face had vanished, replaced by a beaming smile.

"Feed?"

"I was just on the phone with my dad," Ye Fan replied, and called Bae Joo-hyun back as soon as he hung up.

"Looks like Seulgi guessed right." Bae Joo-hyun took off her shoes, lay down on the bed, and swung her short legs around in the air.

"Seulgi?"

"Yeah, I tried calling you earlier but couldn't get through. I was guessing who you were talking to. Seulgi said you might be talking to your family, and it seems she was right. Are they trying to get you to come back?"

"I see," Ye Fan said, understanding. "No, I was just asking, and then I asked if I was going home for the Chinese New Year."

Sitting down at his computer desk, Ye Fan pressed the power button. It was still early, so he prepared to stream for a while.

"New Year? Are you going back?" Bae Joo-hyun bit her lip, her chubby little hand twitching slightly as she rolled up a small ball of the bed sheet, her tone filled with anticipation.

I'm not replying.

"Really not going back?"

Ye Fan opened the live streaming software and heard a cracking sound coming from the microphone. He laughed and said, "Why do you sound a little excited?"

"Hehe, you found out about that." Bae Joo-hyun's smug laughter came through the microphone again.

"If you're not going home for the Lunar New Year, would you like to come back to Daegu with me?"

"I knew you'd ask that. It's fine to go for a couple of days, but if it's to visit your family, then you'll have to use the condition I promised you before."

"Um?"

"What's the difference between the two?" Bae Joo-hyun pouted her red lips, since she was going back with them anyway.

"Of course, going out to have fun and dealing with relatives are two different things," Ye Fan said with a smile.

"Alright, let's use that condition then!"

"OK, but I won't stay long, maybe just two days and then I'll be back."

"Yeah, I won't be staying home for long either." Bae Joo-hyun nodded, and it was settled!

Once the matter was settled, Bae Joo-hyun told him about the events of the day and what fun and delicious things there were to do in her hometown, promising to take him there later.

After chatting on the phone for an hour, Bae Joo-hyun finally hung up when Ye Fan said he was going to do a live stream.

As soon as the door opened, Son Seungwan and Kang Seulgi turned their attention from the television to this older sister.

"Unnie, are you done chatting on the phone?"

"Yeah, he went to do a live stream." Bae Joo-hyun sat down next to director Kang Seul-gi with a smile.

"So, unnie, what did you and your brother-in-law talk about? You're laughing so happily."

"Ye Fan isn't going home for the New Year; he'll be coming back to Daegu with me!"

"What did you say?"
