Witch Training Manual: My Water Magic Is Wrong
Chapter 43 The Misunderstood Bishop
Lillian said.
"What evidence do you have?"
Tilulu asked in return
"Does this even need evidence? Don't you think the idea of a priest saving a witch is absurd in itself?"
Tilulu pressed her advantage.
"And I suspect that sister was being controlled."
"Mr. Wayne controlled them?"
"Yes," Emily chimed in. "Think about it, two newly awakened little witches, knowing nothing, are being taken in by him, eating his food, drinking his drinks, and wearing his clothes every day. Do you think they have any other choice?"
Lillian didn't understand at all.
"But they...they look so happy."
"Happy?" Tilu looked at her. "Of course a person who is unconscious and controlled will be happy. What do you think control is? Is it having a long face all the time?"
Lillian remained silent.
Emily continued, "They seem happy now because they don't know they're being controlled. By the time they realize it, they'll be the evil priest's playthings, and they won't be able to escape."
Tilulu nodded beside her.
Lillian stood there, her brows furrowed. She remembered Ella and Emma's smiling faces, how they used to fawn over Wayne every day, and Emma's words, "Our master is so good to us."
The expression on her face became increasingly complicated.
"But……"
"But Mr. Wayne is really a good person."
Tilulu frowned.
"How can you still not understand...?"
"This morning!"
Lillian interrupted her.
"Just this morning, Mr. Wayne promised to cure Wendy's illness! He said it was curable, and he only accepted dragon's blood vine from Wendy's grandfather as payment. How could someone like that be a bad person!"
Dora suddenly looked up.
"Wendy?"
Lillian looked at her.
"Yes, Wendy. What's wrong?"
Dora pushed up her glasses and turned to the eldest sister.
"Big sister, it's that girl."
Christina's brow twitched slightly.
"Hunter's granddaughter?"
Dora nodded.
"Yes. The one we went to see before. It's a case of magical backlash; the petals are extremely dark, almost purple. Awakening it means certain death."
Emily frowned beside her.
"Isn't that a terminal illness?"
Dora nodded.
"Yes. It's incurable."
Tilulu's expression changed.
"So that bishop was a fraud?"
Christina didn't speak, but her eyes turned completely cold, and the flames of the fireplace burned in her eyes.
Dora continued, "I saw that girl. The petals were a deep, almost purple color, at least four times darker than her actual color. The magic power within her had reached its limit. Forget about awakening; even if she didn't, she wouldn't live more than three months. This kind of disease is fatal."
Emily chimed in from the side.
"The old man sought medical help everywhere, spending all his savings, but no one could cure him. The bishop said he could, and even accepted a gift..."
Tilulu's face turned cold.
"They even make money off the dead."
Tilulu turned to Christina.
"Big sister, this man deserves to die. Should I go kill him right now? Don't worry, I definitely won't fail this time!"
Lillian looked at this person, then at that person, very anxious: "You...you've really misunderstood...Mr. Wayne isn't that kind of person!"
Christina raised her hand.
Everyone quieted down.
She looked at Lillian and asked again.
"Child, are you sure he said 'it can be cured'?"
Lillian nodded vigorously.
"It's certain! Mr. Wayne made it very clear that he could cure the illness, but said it would take time, and that old Hunter could rest assured and leave his granddaughter behind. Old Hunter knelt on the ground and wept, while he stood before the altar and swore an oath according to the holy scriptures."
Christina's eyes narrowed slightly.
"You mean, he swore an oath according to the holy scriptures?"
Lillian nodded.
"Yes. Right in front of the pulpit in the church, he pressed his hand against the open Bible and said that if he ever did anything against his duty, every word in the Bible would become a blade and pierce his heart."
This time, it was Tilulu and the others' turn to change their expressions.
In this world, swearing an oath before the sacred texts is no joke; no one dares to take the sacred texts lightly.
Dora whispered.
"Big sister, if it were fake, he wouldn't dare swear like that..."
Emily couldn't help but speak up.
"Big sister..."
Christina raised her hand to interrupt her.
She turned to Lillian, a slight smile playing on her lips.
"interesting."
Lillian blinked.
"W-What's interesting?"
Christina did not answer her.
She looked at Tilulu.
"Don't make a move yet."
Christina took a sip of tea.
"Let old Hunter's granddaughter stay there for a few days and see what tricks that bishop can pull."
Emily frowned beside her.
"Sister, what if he's a scammer..."
"If he can really be cured," Christina put down her teacup, a smile playing in her purple eyes, "then he shouldn't have been killed."
Lillian stood there and smiled.
"I knew it, Mr. Wayne is a good man."
Christina then changed the subject.
"If he can't be cured, he's doomed..."
……
Meanwhile, inside the church in the outer area at the foot of the mountain.
Wayne has completed the first round of water magic therapy for Wendy.
Overall, the results were acceptable.
Wendy sat on the edge of the bed, feeling much lighter. She raised her hand and placed it on her chest.
"My lord," she began, her voice tinged with uncertainty, "I...I feel like I can breathe a little easier."
Wayne nodded.
"Normal reaction."
Wendy stood up, took two steps in place, and took a deep breath. The heavy feeling that had been weighing on her chest for years did indeed ease a little. Although it was still there, it wasn't as suffocating as before.
She turned to Wayne, her eyes filled with gratitude.
"Thank you, sir."
Wayne waved his hand.
"This is my duty, and also the blessing of the goddess."
Wendy stood there, looking at him.
A black robe, blond hair—this handsome face was getting closer to her, and her heart skipped a beat.
Wayne then spoke.
"That's all for today. Go and get some rest. Come back at this time tomorrow."
Wendy snapped out of her daze and nodded.
"Okay, okay."
She turned and walked out, but couldn't help glancing back at the door. Wayne was standing inside, tidying up the things on the table.
On the other side, Wayne also breathed a sigh of relief.
Fortunately.
He was on edge the whole time he was combing Wendy's hair. Water flowed through the girl's body, and he watched her reactions closely. He didn't miss a single change in her breathing, heartbeat, complexion, or eyes.
The result was good.
From beginning to end, Wendy was perfectly normal, except for being a little nervous at the start. She didn't blush, her legs didn't go weak, and she didn't have any inappropriate reactions.
It seems that illness can indeed make people lose their focus and energy.
A person who has been tormented by accumulated magic for several years, whose chest is so tight that they can hardly breathe, has no time to think about anything else.
As the water element flowed through Wendy's body, he clearly felt the stagnation. Some were blocked in his meridians, some in his internal organs, and some deeper inside. Like a jumble of withered branches and rotten leaves, they completely blocked a river that should have been flowing smoothly.
The first round of analysis only opened a small door.
To loosen the blockage and allow the stagnation to flow slightly, several more sessions of this process are needed to completely clear the blockage. The awakening potion can only be taken after her body has recovered.
After Wendy left, Wayne did not rest, but instead began studying the recipe for the Dragon Blood Tempering Potion.
Next, all he had to do was wait for Thomason to buy the remaining auxiliary medicinal materials, and then he could start preparing the potion.
