Witch Training Manual: My Water Magic Is Wrong
Chapter 377 Alice's Arrangement
the next day.
When Wayne woke up, it was already broad daylight.
He propped himself up on the edge of the bed and rubbed his temples.
He rarely slept until this hour. Usually, he would wake up naturally before dawn, either to stretch his limbs in the courtyard or to peruse documents in his study. It was truly rare for him to sleep until the sun was high in the sky like today.
As for the reason, Wayne himself knew it all too well.
He wasn't in his room late last night.
To be precise, he spent the latter half of the night in a secret room at the Witch Cult's stronghold in the capital.
He had just finished talking with Ella last night when a hand silently snatched him away through the shadows.
Everything that followed was exactly as expected...
After waking up, Wayne quickly went out of the room.
In the front hall, Alice was sitting at the table, holding a glass of warm milk in her hand, with an account book spread out in front of her.
She saw Wayne come out, put down her cup, and gave him a sweet smile: "Brother, you're awake? There's still lunch warming in the kitchen, shall I bring it to you?"
Wayne sat down opposite her and casually asked, "Where's Father? Why didn't I see him come out and make a scene today?"
Alice put down the ledger: "Father, this morning I had the old steward take him to the countryside."
Wayne paused for a moment as he took the milk glass.
"……countryside?"
"Hmm. I'm worried he's overworking himself in the capital, which isn't good for his health. So I'll let him go to the countryside for a while, a change of environment will be good for his health."
Wayne asked curiously.
"He... just agreed like that?"
Alice's gaze didn't waver, and she continued naturally, "I gave him some amnesia potion. It's not a harmful formula, just something to temporarily make him forget his identity. The old butler will accompany him on this journey. I believe he will learn something from it."
Wayne's lips twitched; he hadn't expected his sister to have such a skill.
He took a sip of his milk to steady himself before continuing, "What kind of place is it in the countryside? It can't just be an ordinary farm, can it?"
Alice smiled, a mischievous glint in her eyes: "That's certainly not an ordinary countryside. It's a small village spontaneously formed by a group of people who enjoy role-playing. Everyone in the village has their own fixed 'persona.' The village chief plays a retired veteran, the widow at the village entrance plays a lovelorn woman waiting for her husband to return, the blacksmith's apprentice plays a taciturn, amnesiac swordsman... In short, everyone is playing a version of themselves that isn't themselves."
Wayne remained silent for a moment.
"...So what identity did you prepare for him?"
Alice thought for a moment and answered seriously, "A down-on-his-luck knight who traveled a long way from a foreign land to rescue a princess kidnapped by a dragon, but lost most of his memory along the way. He only remembers that he has some kind of sacred mission, and he can't even remember his own name. The villagers call him the 'Nameless Knight,' and they both respect and pity him. His daily work is to polish his sword under the big tree at the entrance of the village and occasionally help the villagers chase away foxes that steal chickens."
After listening, Wayne remained silent for a long time.
"...Alice, are you sure you're doing this right? What did the Queen say?"
Alice waved her hand, her tone relaxed and confident: "No problem. I explained the whole story to the Queen this morning, and she didn't comment. In the Queen's view, a Marquis Lynch who has temporarily disappeared from the capital is much less troublesome than a Marquis Lynch who is constantly setting fires all over the capital. Her silence means she approves."
Wayne gave Alice a serious look: "The arrangements are quite thorough. It seems my sister is indeed capable of handling things on her own."
Alice raised her chin: "Of course. I can't let you worry about everything, brother. You take care of the battles outside, and leave the little things at home to me."
Wayne didn't pursue the topic further: "Alright, I'll go to the backyard. Yesterday's treatment wasn't completely finished, and Miss Zoe needs further stabilization of her recovery today."
Alice nodded: "I've already had everything prepared in the backyard. You can just go there, brother."
Wayne said nothing more, stood up, and walked towards the backyard. As he passed through the archway, the girl in the wheelchair was looking down, flipping through a picture book. Two Northern servants stood quietly on either side of the bench.
Hearing footsteps, Zoe looked up.
She saw Wayne approaching, closed the book in her hand, and smiled slightly: "Good morning, Mr. Wayne."
Wayne sat down on the stone bench opposite Zoe.
"How are you feeling today, Miss Zoe?"
Zoe put down the booklet in her hand: "It's much better than yesterday. Last night before bed, I tried to move my toes a little, and although the range of motion was small, I could move them."
Wayne nodded: "This is a good sign, indicating that the repair is progressing. At this rate, after I return from the City of Eternal Sleep and undergo two or three more deep treatments, you should be able to try standing up."
Zoe's gaze shifted slightly: "The City of Eternal Slumber? Mr. Wayne is going on a long trip?"
"Yes. There's an urgent matter in the capital that I need to attend to. It could take a few days or up to half a month. During my absence, your treatment will have to be temporarily suspended."
Zoe nodded, not showing much disappointment: "Business is important. I've been waiting for this for over ten years, so ten or fifteen days won't make a difference. Mr. Wayne, you can go ahead and do your work. I'll be waiting for you at home."
Wayne stood up.
"Alright. I've prepared the ingredients for the medicinal bath and given them to Alice. While I'm away, you should take a bath once every night to maintain your current recovery progress and prevent it from regressing."
"Thank you for your trouble, Mr. Wayne."
Wayne didn't linger any longer and turned to leave the backyard.
He arrived at his potions shop.
This potions room was located in the basement of a side building of the Marquis's mansion. It was prepared by Alice's servants over several days after Wayne returned to the capital. The room was not large, but it had everything one needed. Several rows of empty bottles and measuring tools were neatly stacked on the workbench against the wall, and several bags of spare basic materials were piled in the corner.
Wayne stood at the control panel, his gaze fixed on the recipe spread out before him. The panel clearly displayed the complete preparation process for this invigorating potion.
This is a stimulant.
It's a formula that was provided by the panel manufacturer years ago.
[Awakening Elixir - Recipe Description]
[Rank: Fourth Rank]
[Effects: After consumption, it can resist hypnotic, enchanting, and memory-altering effects on a mental level for a certain period of time. It has a significant protective effect against pollen damage from the Flower of Immortality. It can be taken orally or applied to the temples, and the effect lasts for approximately four hours.]
[Note: This formula was originally provided by a nobleman from the capital who wished to remain anonymous. It is said that this nobleman, in his youth, nearly lost his life due to his infatuation with a courtesan. Afterwards, deeply regretting his actions, he spent a fortune to have this potion developed.]
