Witch Training Manual: My Water Magic Is Wrong
Chapter 34 The Gods Know Everything
Wayne took a step forward.
Old Tom instinctively took half a step back.
Wayne leaned close to his ear and whispered so low that only the two of them could hear.
"Your mistress's son is seven years old and lives in the outskirts of the town. The woman who sells vegetables has a five-year-old daughter who lives in the east of town. Does your wife, Martha, know about this?"
He stared wide-eyed at the young priest in front of him, as if he had seen a ghost.
A person who has been in Frost Town for less than a day.
A stranger from eight hundred miles away.
How could you possibly know these things?
How could you possibly know so much?
If he were to reveal these secrets, his wife Martha would probably find a chance to crush him to death.
His lips began to tremble.
"You...you..."
Wayne took a step back and looked at him.
"The gods know everything."
Old Tom panicked.
He took a step back, then another, and his heel tripped on a roadside stone, almost causing him to fall.
"I...I..."
Everyone was looking at old Tom.
Just moments ago, he was arrogant and demanded ten Vite Shields, but now he shrank back as if he'd seen a ghost. All his arrogance vanished, replaced by terror.
"I don't want the money... I don't want the money anymore!"
"Take the person away! I don't want the money! I don't want it!"
Wayne looked at him.
"Sure?"
Old Tom nodded vigorously.
"Yes, yes! It's just a loaf of bread, it's free! Consider it... consider it a treat for her!"
Wayne nodded.
"Thank you very much."
Old Tom waved his hand, turned around and ran away.
He was running too fast, his foot slipped, and he almost fell. He staggered a couple of steps to steady himself, then disappeared into the crowd without looking back.
Laughter erupted from the crowd.
"What's wrong with Old Tom?"
"Is this a ghost?"
"What did the new bishop say that scared him like that?"
Wayne ignored their comments and turned to walk back.
Ella and Emma immediately followed, standing on either side of him. Emma tilted her head back and asked softly, "Master, what did you say to him? Why was he so scared?"
Wayne glanced down at her, a slight smile playing on his lips.
"I said, the goddess watches over everyone who has done something wrong."
Emma blinked and nodded, seemingly understanding.
Lillian remained standing there, looking down at the purple-eyed girl kneeling on the ground.
She tilted her head and asked, "Then what about her?"
Emily was still kneeling on the ground, looking at Wayne with teary eyes. Her purple eyes were full of pleading, and she looked extremely pitiful.
"My lord..." her voice was soft and choked with sobs, "I...I have no home...Could you...take me with you?"
Wayne stopped in his tracks.
Look back at her.
Emily met his gaze, and her heart skipped a beat. The priest's eyes were too calm, so calm that it didn't seem like he was looking at a poor child who had just been rescued. She had been in the order for five years and had seen many people, but she had never seen such a look in someone's eyes.
Wayne looked at her for two seconds.
"Let's go."
Emily paused for a moment, then immediately scrambled to her feet and jogged to catch up. Vera brought up the rear, carrying her basket, watching the line of people ahead without saying a word.
The group continued up the mountain.
After walking for a while, the view opened up before us.
We've arrived at the market in Frost Town.
It was called a market, but it was really just an open space with some simple sheds set up, and various stalls were set up under the sheds. Vendors selling vegetables, meat, cloth, and sundries were calling out their wares, and the sounds of their vendors rose and fell. There were quite a few people, much more lively than down the mountain.
The eyes of several girls lit up at the same time.
Emma, holding her sister's hand, looked around and exclaimed, "So many people!"
Lillian moved closer to Wayne and asked with a grin, "Mr. Wayne, may I take a look around?"
Wayne glanced at the expressions of the girls, then at the number of people on his side, and nodded.
"Okay. Meet here in one hour."
He took out his money pouch from his pocket and handed two Viking Shields to each person. Ella took the money, looked down at the two gleaming gold coins in her hand, and froze.
Emma, too, was holding the money, her eyes wide open.
"Master, is this... for us?"
Wayne nodded.
"Go buy some clothes. It's colder here than in Adrian, and what you brought isn't enough."
Ella clutched the two gold coins, her fingers trembling slightly. She had never seen money of her own in her entire life. Not even a copper coin, let alone gold. From childhood to adulthood, she had only ever suffered hunger and beatings; no one had ever given her money.
"Master...Master..." She looked up, somewhat surprised, "There's too much...we...we don't need this much..."
Emma nodded vigorously beside her, but her eyes remained fixed on the two gold coins.
Wayne looked at them.
"Here you go. Buy something thicker, so it doesn't get cold."
Ella was about to say something when Lillian grabbed her shoulder and said, "Take it, don't be shy. Your master has plenty of money. As a bishop, would he be short of cash?"
Vera stood there, looking at the two gold coins in her hand, then at Wayne, and whispered, "Me... should I go too?"
Wayne nodded.
"Go."
Vera pursed her lips, said nothing more, and followed after him with her basket in her arms.
Emily stood to the side, watching the girls walk away with longing eyes, then looked at Wayne.
"My lord, what about me...?"
Wayne looked at her.
"You should go too."
He took out two more gold coins from his purse and handed them to her.
Emily was stunned.
She looked down at the two gold coins, momentarily stunned.
The order sent her to test the bishop, saying she would be rewarded if she completed the task well, but she has already received the money before she even started testing him.
She looked up at Wayne.
His face was calm, revealing no emotion.
"My lord, I..."
"Go buy some clothes," Wayne interrupted her.
"That outfit of hers is too eye-catching."
Emily looked down at herself.
His tattered clothes, covered in dust, really made him look like a homeless child caught stealing bread.
She opened her mouth as if to say something, but then swallowed it back. Finally, she took the money, whispered "thank you," and turned to run into the market.
After running a few steps, she looked back.
Wayne had already turned around and walked in another direction.
Wayne walked through the market and headed to the other side.
The crowd gradually thinned out, and the stalls changed. They weren't selling vegetables and cloth anymore; instead, they were selling strange and unusual things: old weapons, tattered leather armor, yellowed scrolls, rusty amulets, and other odds and ends whose contents were unrecognizable.
Flea market.
Wayne slowed his pace, his gaze sweeping over the stalls.
"Come and see! Top-quality monster cores! Tier 3!"
"A family heirloom amulet! Wearing it will keep monsters away!"
"High-quality gold ore! Just mined from the mountains!"
The shouts and calls rose and fell, making it even more lively than the market itself.
Wayne stopped in front of a grocery stall.
The stall was cluttered with all sorts of things: scrolls, bottles, bones, stones, and a few withered plants.
His gaze fell on one of them.
The dark red vines were dry, but their original shape was still visible. The vines had fine patterns that looked like scales or waves.
Wayne crouched down and picked up the vine to examine it.
