Witch Training Manual: My Water Magic Is Wrong
Chapter 132 The Angel Descends
The crowd on the city wall became excited.
"It's the town mayor!"
"The mayor is downstairs!"
"Open the door! Lower the rope!"
The city gates were not open.
It's not that we don't want to open it, it's that we dare not. The demonic tide has already reached the city gates. If we open the gates now, it might not just be the mayor who comes in, it could be something else entirely.
Diaz made a decisive decision:
"Rope! Throw the rope!"
Several ropes hung down from the city wall.
The rope swayed back and forth in the night wind.
Wilford rushed over, jumped up, and grabbed one of them with both hands.
His body slammed against the city wall, his chest hitting the stone bricks, the pain almost making him let go. But he didn't let go; he wrapped the rope around his wrists twice, braced his feet against the wall, and started climbing.
The darkness behind them caught up.
Tentacles stretched out from the pillar, reaching towards him...
Wilford felt the fishy smell rising from his feet, climbing up his calves to his knees.
His scalp tingled, his teeth clenched so tightly they cracked, and the veins on his hands bulged as he suddenly jerked upwards.
The tentacle brushed past the soles of his feet.
I missed my chance.
Wilford didn't dare stop and continued climbing.
His arms were shaking, and his legs were shaking too.
He was so scared he almost peed his pants.
Diaz reached out his hand from the city wall.
"Mayor! Give me your hand!"
Wilford looked up and reached out to touch it. Just as his fingertips touched the hand, he suddenly felt a chill on the soles of his feet.
Tentacles wrapped around his ankle.
Wilford's pupils suddenly shrank to pinpoints.
Finished!
"No!!!……"
His body was falling.
Tentacles climbed up his ankles, wrapped around his calves, around his knees, and spread toward his thighs.
Wilford closed his eyes.
He didn't want to watch anymore.
He couldn't take it anymore.
A flash of white light.
He thought it was his goddess coming to pick him up.
Bang!
After a loud bang.
A massive cross pierced through the monster's body from top to bottom. Wilford landed limply on the monster's corpse, completely unharmed.
Wilford collapsed to the ground, gasping for breath.
His mind went blank.
A person is standing on the cross.
Golden hair fluttered in the night wind, white robes rustled in the breeze, and a scripture scroll was held in her hand, its cover glowing a dark red in the firelight.
He stood on the cross, looking down from above.
Looking down at all the monsters below the city walls.
The city wall was completely silent.
Everyone's mouths were agape, their eyes were wide open, and their necks were craned back, like a flock of ducks with their throats being choked.
"That is..."
"Bishop Wayne?"
"Bishop Wayne!"
"How did he get there?"
"How did he get up there?"
"Where did that cross come from?"
No one answered these questions.
Because nobody knows the answer.
Diaz stood on the city wall, his sword still raised, but he had forgotten to put it down. His mouth was open, his eyes were fixed on the man standing on the cross, and only one thought occupied his mind.
Is this physical strength even human?
Wayne jumped down from the cross, landed in front of Wilford, squatted down, and reached out to touch his forehead.
"Mayor, how are you?"
Wilford's lips trembled, his eyes trembled, his whole body trembled. He stared at Wayne's face for several breaths, then suddenly reached out and grabbed Wayne's sleeve.
"Bishop Wayne..."
"Um."
"You saved me again."
Wayne smiled.
"It's my duty."
Wilford's eyes reddened, and his voice, strained from his throat, was choked with the sobs of someone who had survived a catastrophe.
The town mayor burst into tears.
"Goddess~ It was you who sent down the angels, wasn't it? You didn't actually give up on me, did you...?"
Wayne is here not because he wants to be a hero. It's because his body is telling him he's about to break through.
He had been trying to reach the threshold from the late stage of the third tier to the fourth tier for a long time. The potion's effects were surging in his veins, and his battle aura was churning in his chest. He was just one final spark away from achieving his goal.
He needs a fight.
Achieve breakthroughs through combat.
The demonic tide has arrived, and so has his opportunity.
Monsters are still surging beneath the city walls.
Wayne pulled Wilford up from the ground.
He waved towards the city wall.
Diaz immediately understood, turned around and shouted, "Two men go down and bring the mayor up!"
The rope then dangled down from the city wall.
Two soldiers slid down the rope, grabbed Wilford on either side, and pulled him up.
Wayne turned around to face the churning darkness.
Diaz stood on the city wall, watching Wayne's retreating figure. He hesitated for a moment, then called out, "Your Excellency, aren't you coming up? It's dangerous down there!"
He is a fourth-tier warrior who has been killing monsters since he was fifteen years old for twenty years. He has seen all kinds of demonic tides.
But even he wouldn't dare rush down at this moment.
The things in the demonic tide not only bite, but also curse. This curse isn't poison or disease, but the aura of the abyss that slowly corrodes the body of any intruder.
Wayne didn't turn around.
"I'm fine."
Diaz's lips moved, then he swallowed his words. Wayne was a priest; he believed he could handle the curses of the abyss.
On the city wall, the crowd was still discussing.
"Why isn't Bishop Wayne coming up yet?"
"What is he doing down there?"
"Is he crazy?"
Beneath the city wall, Wayne tucked the scriptures into his waistband.
The enormous cross was still embedded in the monster's corpse, its base sunken into the black flesh, its tip gleaming dimly in the firelight. He walked over, gripped the crossbar with both hands, and pulled hard.
The cross was pulled from the corpse, bringing with it a spray of black liquid. The liquid splattered on the ground, making a sizzling sound, and corroded the stone slabs, creating tiny pits.
Wayne didn't watch it.
He carried the cross on his shoulder.
The darkness continued to surge forward.
The shapes of those things emerged from the darkness; some had multiple legs, some had multiple eyes, and some had nothing at all, just a mass of wriggling flesh.
Wayne took a deep breath.
They carried the cross and rushed in.
The cross swept out, accompanied by the sound of wind.
The head of the first monster was smashed flat, and its body flew out, crashing into the monsters behind it and rolling into a heap.
Wayne did not pause.
Using the momentum of his sweeping motion, he swung the cross around in a circle and smashed it back from right to left.
"Bang!"
The second one.
"Bang!"
The third one.
Each fall of the cross was accompanied by a thunderous roar of battle energy. The power of the late-stage third tier was fully unleashed at this moment, muscles tensed, veins bulged from the back of the hand to the forearm, and every fiber was burning.
On the other side of the city wall, several mercenaries were peering down from the crenellations, their heads huddled together.
"Holy crap, another one's down."
"How can he be so strong?"
"What kind of weapon is that cross?"
"That's not a weapon, it's a sacred relic of the church."
"Can a sacred relic be used like this?"
"Who cares if it works or not, as long as it's functional."
The monsters are still surging.
more and more.
Wayne pulled the crucifix from the monster's head, splattering black liquid all over himself. He shook his hands and found that his robes were corroded with several holes, but his skin was unharmed.
The water elemental has materialized, making it nearly invincible at this moment.
The curses of the abyss cannot seep in.
not only that.
His punch had landed squarely on a monster's chest, and water elemental energy seeped into the hole where his fist had sunk. The monster's body began to smoke, as if it had been doused with strong acid, and within moments it had turned into a puddle of black water.
Wayne looked down at his fist.
Does the water element have a restraining effect on monsters?
This is indeed the case.
He became more and more courageous in battle.
Encouraged by Wayne, people began to climb down the city walls one after another to participate in killing and repelling the monsters.
