Chapter 67 A Lie Made in Kind
After much deliberation, Morian finally pointed to the soft light and made his decision.
"Your Highness, I choose this short sword."
Upon hearing this, Eric smiled naturally.
"Good eye. This magical item does indeed possess considerable power. As a reward, it is yours."
He waved his hand, and a servant immediately stepped forward, carefully placed the dagger inside a specially made storage box, and then closed the lid.
"This item will be delivered to you after you leave," Eric added. "As for the three thousand gold pounds, you can ask Paul to wire it to you as soon as your account is set up."
"Thank you for your generosity," Morian said again, expressing his delight.
A suitable magical item, including the three thousand gold pounds that haven't arrived yet, would be worth over four thousand gold pounds in total, which is indeed quite substantial.
Eric smiled and nodded, then offered a new suggestion:
"By the way, I'd like to request that you stay at the White Rose Palace for a few days, in my capacity as a psychology consultant."
"This is both for the convenience of subsequent communication and to make your subsequent actions more discreet and reasonable."
"The ceremony will begin in about five days, and the second prince, Raymond, who is my brother, will arrive at the palace tomorrow with his confidants."
Temporarily residing at the White Rose Palace?
Indeed, as the other party said, staying for a few days as a low-profile consultant would reduce the risk of attracting attention and being targeted in subsequent actions.
The advantages are also obvious: it makes it easier to observe the movements of the royal family and to come and discuss plans with Eric.
The only downside is that I might not be used to living in such a formal place.
But considering Diana's condition and the limited time left, efficiency and safety were equally important, and whether he wanted to stay was less important.
Morian answered without hesitation:
"No problem, then I'll take my leave."
"Well then, I'll have the servant take you to your room. Paul will take care of the rest of the chores," Eric said calmly, nodding.
After bowing and bidding farewell to the fourth prince, Eric, Morian left the study and followed a servant who led the way.
Instead of heading towards the lavish main area, they turned into a secluded corridor where the walls were so soundproof that even the carpet absorbed the sound of their footsteps.
Gas lamps were installed on both sides of the corridor, and high stools were placed at every corner, on which vases or items were displayed.
Strictly speaking, this place doesn't seem to be a residence for VIPs or important members of the royal family. It's more like a place specially prepared for visitors who need to stay overnight. It's located in a remote area and isn't too luxurious.
The advantage is that it's quiet enough.
The servant stopped in front of an inconspicuous dark wooden door and opened it with a key.
"Mr. Tias, this is your room. If you have any other needs, please feel free to ask one of the palace servants."
After a brief introduction, he handed the key to Morian, bowed slightly, and withdrew.
Morian closed the door behind him and quickly looked around. The room was more spacious than he had expected, but the furnishings were simple.
In the center of the bedroom was a four-poster bed draped with gray linen curtains. Next to the entrance was a tall wardrobe with a desk and a few chairs. The window was small, and it overlooked the dense forest on the side of the palace.
Further inside the room are the washroom and a private bathroom, with smooth white tiles on the floor and walls, and a bathtub large enough to accommodate an adult.
After observing the surroundings and facilities for a while, Morian was thinking of taking a break to clear his mind when there were two knocks on the door.
He walked to the dark wooden door and opened it, where came Paul, the butler who always had a serious expression.
"Mr. Tias, is the room comfortable?" Paul asked as usual as he stepped into the room.
"I think this is probably the most comfortable room I've ever stayed in," Morian said with a confident smile, not forgetting to make a self-deprecating remark.
Since he transmigrated here, he has never stayed in such a spacious bedroom. Hotels in this world are all cheap and simple small rooms.
And this isn't just about the price; at least in Bet City, even if you have the money, you can't stay in a room of this caliber. Perhaps things would be better in St. Christine.
Unless you are already a wealthy person with the money to rent expensive detached houses or buy an entire villa and then renovate it.
"I was ordered to deliver this magical item to you," Paul said with a faint smile, gently placing the box containing the "radiance" on the table.
Without waiting for Morian's reply, he cut straight to the point:
"Furthermore, we still need to finalize the details regarding Ms. Laurent's departure plan."
"Okay." Morian sat down at the desk and gestured for Paul to sit opposite him as well.
Paul sat down in a relaxed posture, then carefully chose his words and began to speak:
"Since Ms. Laurent has only recently recovered, we plan to assist her in leaving secretly the day before the ceremony begins."
Is time really that tight?
Morian was somewhat taken aback. If something went wrong that day and the plan had to be postponed, it would be disastrous.
"Wouldn't it be better to come a day earlier?" he suddenly asked, frowning.
"No, choosing the day before was both to allow her to rest and recover, and to lull the other factions in the royal family into a false sense of security," Paul shook his head and continued speaking in a low voice.
"Now that Miss Laurent has just awakened, the royal family is in a rather sensitive period and will definitely be monitoring her."
Morian listened quietly. The timing of leaving was relatively easy to resolve; the key issue was the method of leaving.
"Then how should we choose a mode of transportation? A steam train? Or a freighter?" he thought for a moment, then asked.
"Legitimate ships need to check identities before going to sea, and ports also check identities, but the only way to go abroad is by sea."
"So I bought a private fishing boat from a remote town. We can set off from the abandoned dock downstream and bypass the main channel to Arcandia. Although the journey will be slower, it will be more discreet." Paul gave a pale and helpless smile.
After listening to the other person's account, Morian unconsciously leaned forward, his fingers lightly tapping the edge of the table, and asked several pointed questions:
"How can we ensure safety afterwards? Will Miss Laurent agree to this sudden arrangement? Are you sure that old passageway is clear and the exit is secure?"
"We've prepared a fake identity for her in advance, as well as enough funds for Miss Laurent to live in seclusion in that small country," Paul replied, gazing into a certain direction.
"As for the reason, it was His Highness Eric who came up with it himself, and His Highness naturally understood that the other party would not agree to leave."
"So we're going to weave a white lie?" Morian couldn't help but interject.
"……Yes."
