Chapter 49 "A Masterpiece of Nature"
Having received an affirmative answer, old Walker wasted no more time and immediately took out a large piece of parchment from the drawer of his workbench, which was piled with tools, to use as a sketch.
Was this a plan to draw up new design drawings on the spot? Upon seeing this, Morian immediately took a half step back and quietly observed from the side.
Walker settled himself on the wooden stool, then gently unfolded the drawings, his right hand suddenly reaching out to the side as if to grab something.
In the blink of an eye, a long pen, pale gold in color and decorated with white feathers at the tip, was firmly held in his palm.
The moment the quill pen appeared, Old Walker's entire demeanor changed, and he seemed to enter a state of complete absorption and focus.
He said no more, and the moment his wrist flicked the quill pen and it touched the parchment, pale gold lines quickly spread across the paper, leaving marks.
At that moment, a miraculous scene unfolded.
The stiff, crooked lines on the blueprints seemed to come alive, making subtle adjustments and turns as they extended. The corrected proportions and structure were even more perfect, and the basic framework of the weapon was quickly completed.
Walker's arms moved quickly, without any pauses or modifications, a breathtaking display, as if the finished design was already etched in his mind and was now simply being reproduced on paper.
Morian was mesmerized, for this was far beyond ordinary design drawings; within those flowing golden lines, there was a subtle symbolism of "construction" and "endowment."
This is one of the manifestations of the destiny of "divine art," ether—"the masterful work of nature."
A dozen minutes later, a meticulously crafted drawing, a work of art, appeared on the parchment. In terms of design, it was worlds apart from the previous rudimentary sketch.
It is about fifteen inches long, with a beautiful and powerful blade. Instead of a traditional handle, the end of the blade has a groove for easy gripping.
Only now did old Walker finally stop, the light of the pale gold quill pen dimming slightly before dissipating into the air.
"This is the initial prototype of the weapon, and it's what a real design should look like." He stared intently at his work, his eyes filled with satisfaction.
"Yes, your skill is simply breathtaking," Morian exclaimed sincerely.
Walker nodded, carefully rolled up the drawings, and put them away gently.
"I need time to gather the remaining key supporting materials. Come back in three days, and I will provide the final detailed drawings then." He paused, then added, "Before you leave, as per the rules, you must pay a partial deposit."
Three days... just within the timeframe required to make an initial response to the royal commission.
"No problem, I can pay a deposit of five hundred pounds today." Morian took out his wallet from his pocket and readily counted out five hundred pounds in bills.
Considering that crafting extraordinary weapons would certainly require a considerable amount of savings, he brought with him a huge sum of eight hundred gold pounds today. Even if it wasn't enough to pay in full on the spot, it would be more than enough to pay a deposit.
"Do I need to be present during the forging process?" Morian asked, as if suddenly remembering something.
"No need." Walker shook his head and put the deposit away. "My forging process requires absolute quiet and concentration. You can arrange a time to pay the balance after it's finished."
"Moreover, due to the complex design, the forging process is quite lengthy, taking almost a full day."
"Yes, thank you for your trouble, Mr. Walker." Morian thanked him again sincerely, and then left the forge quietly without disturbing him any longer as he prepared for the next phase of the work.
It took about ten minutes to get out of the muddy, winding alley of the blacksmith's lane and onto the relatively flat street again.
Instead of returning directly to the agency, Morian planned to find a quiet place where he wouldn't be disturbed to test the "Abundance" ability.
He took a horse-drawn carriage and gave the name of a public cemetery on the outskirts of the city. The cemetery was small and in a remote location, so few people went there to pay their respects.
The carriage drove out of the old town and finally stopped on a quiet street.
After paying the fare, Morian stepped onto a weed-covered path and came to a patch of wasteland partially enclosed by a rusty iron fence.
This place used to be a garden, but it was later converted into a public cemetery, where wild grass has grown so much that it covers most of the ground.
Because of its long proximity to the cold and damp cemetery, the air is filled with the smell of damp earth and decay, which is quite unpleasant.
The entire cemetery is surrounded by a low white fence, inside which stand many simple gray tombstones, most of which are crude and short, and arranged in a disorderly manner.
Typically, only families with limited financial means choose to bury their deceased in these marginal cemeteries; those who can afford it will choose to bury their loved ones in the spacious public cemetery in the city center.
Morian walked to a relatively open area of the garden to observe. The soil there was damp and barren, affected by the stench of decay, and no plants other than weeds could grow.
He selected a small patch of land and a low-lying plant that had completely withered and turned yellow next to it.
Taking a deep breath, Morian focused his mind and touched the symbol of "abundance" in his spirituality.
A warm and vibrant light instantly emerged from my palm; this was not physical energy, but an extension of spirituality.
He guided this energy, slowly channeling it into the chosen land and the withered plant before him.
The light transformed into countless tiny specks that seeped in, and with the aid of spiritual vision, it was clear that the vitality of the land was being activated little by little.
Slowly, several tender shoots broke through the soil and grew rapidly, unfurling their curled leaves at a slow but steady pace, turning them a vibrant green.
The changes were even more pronounced on the low, withered plant next to it; the top few leaves, which were almost black, were gradually losing their dead color at the edges.
More importantly, the spiritual energy output of this ability is negligible, almost negligible, yet the effect is remarkable!
A skill that doesn't consume mana, and has a lot of room for development... Morian muttered to himself, gaining a more intuitive understanding of the value of this ability.
"This is the outward manifestation of the power of 'abundance'... I wonder what kind of changes would occur if it were applied to an injured human body or other things?"
Although on the surface it only has auxiliary and production capabilities, its hidden potential seems to be far more amazing than it appears.
Of course, as it stands, its scope of application and its effects on different life forms still require further experimentation to explore.
Morian stood up, took one last look at the corner that had briefly come to life under the power of "Abundance," and then turned and left along the way he had come.
