Chapter 135 True Ancestor
Stepping out of the "Starry Sky Fortune Telling House," Morian walked along the street for a short while, found a public carriage, paid a small fare, and then planned to head to the address on the business card.
He leaned back quietly in his seat, his gaze fixed on the dark red carpet in the carriage, the scene of the divination still lingering in his mind.
The reversed Temperance... what does this revelation really mean...?
As I pondered, the scenery outside the window flashed by, and the carriage soon arrived at Liuli Street, slowly stopping in front of a residence.
Dispelling his jumbled thoughts, Morian lightly jumped off the carriage and focused his attention on the building in front of him.
Unlike the previous detached houses with yards, most of the houses here are townhouses with a similar style, including the one Carl provided.
It was a two-story apartment building with white carved eaves and window frames, a black wrought iron fence surrounding the porch, and a potted plant on either side of the steps.
Among these buildings, the apartment building in front of us has a relatively refined overall appearance.
"It suits the master's style perfectly..." Morian thought to himself, then looked away.
He walked up the steps and came to the dark brown double door, raising his hand to knock.
The person who opened the door was the gray-haired man I had seen last night. Today, he was wearing a white shirt with the collar open, and his hair was still messy, as if he had just woken up and hadn't taken care of it.
"Good morning, I knew you would accept the invitation." Karl smiled slightly.
He seemed completely unsurprised by this, and even appeared somewhat pleased with himself after confirming that his prediction had been correct.
Morian didn't bother with this narcissistic guy and strode into the house without any politeness, heading into the living room in a few steps.
The interior space is not large, but it doesn't resemble an office for receiving guests at all; instead, it's more like a residence with a very personal style.
There were no typical desks or cabinets for storing files, only a few light-colored sofas and a low-key dark red carpet. Various collectibles were displayed on the shelves against the wall.
After a casual glance, Morian noticed that there were oil paintings, a few silver items, and artistic sculptures on display, which seemed to reflect the owner's unique taste.
In addition, there was a faint fragrance in the living room, but it was not a floral scent. It was the scent of some kind of perfume, which was pleasant and not pungent, and was just right at the most comfortable level.
"Please have a seat and wait a moment," Carl gestured to the sofa next to him.
Then he took out a set of cups from the cabinet, walked to the smooth tabletop by the wall, and skillfully began grinding coffee.
Morian sat down on the sofa and casually began to speak:
"This doesn't look like a private investigator's office. At least when I came in, I didn't see a sign that said it was open for business."
"Because I rarely do business with the public, I only accept commissions based on my mood," Carl said with a shrug, seemingly unconcerned.
He said as he fiddled with the coffee machine:
"Moreover, we generally only accept long-term commissions here, otherwise my investigation period wouldn't be so long."
The coffee machine emitted a deep operating sound and soon brewed a rich cup of coffee.
"Try it, this coffee powder is a rare find." Carl casually brought over a cup of coffee and placed it on the coffee table in front of Morian, while he himself didn't intend to drink anything.
A fragrant aroma wafted from the steaming liquid, making it look like freshly ground, high-quality coffee.
Out of caution, Morian simply nodded slightly and did not touch the cup of coffee.
Seeing this, Karl couldn't help but reveal a mysterious smile, but he didn't say anything. He simply turned around and sat down on the sofa opposite him, letting his body sink naturally into the soft backrest.
Then, he casually crossed his legs.
"Since you've taken the initiative to come to me, it means you should have thought it through, right?" he said with a smile.
"This case is quite difficult, otherwise I wouldn't have extended an invitation, hoping to solve the problems we face together through cooperation."
Morian hesitated for a moment before slowly saying:
"Before I came here, I confirmed through certain channels that the information Harrison mentioned was true."
"So your coming to see me shows you've made a wise choice." Karl blinked, a hint of approval in his eyes. "Similarly, to show my sincerity, I can first reveal some information I've gathered to you."
...Morian didn't respond, waiting for him to continue.
"First of all, the Moon Worship Group is not an ordinary secret organization. They worship the one and only True Ancestor of the vampires. Legend has it that the True Ancestor is the source of all vampires and has existed for at least several thousand years."
"But in the end, they're just a bunch of lowly vampires. Why would the True Ancestor bother with a bunch of imposters?" Karl scoffed.
"That last sentence was completely unnecessary..." Morian thought to himself, feeling that genuine disdain once again.
"Therefore, I guess that the rituals that the Moon Worship Group has been preparing recently are mostly related to this. Perhaps they want to seek the attention of the vampire ancestor through some ancient ritual in order to achieve some ultimate goal."
Praying to ancient beings through rituals? Is that even possible? Morian raised an eyebrow, feeling that he had truly learned something new.
However, rituals that require killing and bloodshed are usually not good rituals.
At this point, Karl suddenly stopped, his bloodshot eyes fixed on the person in front of him.
"How about that? This information is valuable enough, isn't it? Now, it's your turn to show your sincerity."
Before Morian could speak, he went straight to the point and asked the question:
"You've gone to such lengths to investigate this case, what's your real purpose? It's probably not just as simple as accepting the commission, is it?"
This incredibly direct question also caused Morian to fall into a brief silence.
Making up a reason won't fool the other party's keen intuition. Although the man in front of her is a bit arrogant, he's not as easily fooled as Elizabeth.
Logically speaking, as a private investigator, even if he accepted a case involving a serial killer, he could have ended the case once he found out Harrison's identity.
Continuing to investigate would only prove that one has other motives.
Karl did indeed demonstrate full sincerity, never telling a lie from beginning to end. If I were to conceal something at this point, it might directly lead to the breakdown of the cooperation.
Thinking about it carefully, even if I told him about my current needs, it doesn't seem to have much of an impact...
After weighing the pros and cons, Morian carefully spoke:
"I need a drop of vampire blood."
"Oh? An interesting need, but what do you need blood for? To curse the other person from afar?" Karl showed great interest and teased him half-jokingly.
