Cultivation begins with harvest.

Chapter 9 Cultivating the Spirit Fields

The moon was bright and the stars were few. Chen Guang sat on the steps in front of the house, covered in sweat, and rested for a while.

I just felt that my body was more relaxed and comfortable. There was no obvious change in strength or anything like that, which is normal. Body cultivation and Qi cultivation are not things that can be accomplished in a day or two. They are things that require long-term accumulation.

This is just a regular cultivation technique for Qi Refining cultivators. If you think you can achieve a qualitative change after practicing it once or twice, then becoming an immortal would be far too easy.

"I can do about a quarter of the first set of movements. Then I'll be busy until the autumn harvest. I hope to be able to finish half of the set, or even more, by the end of spring."

Chen Guang was not very ambitious and was also very practical.

There are fifteen sets of exercises. Once the first set no longer causes changes in blood flow, you can discard it and start practicing the second set in sequence as long as you can still feel the movement.

Taking advantage of his free time, Chen Guang took out a white porcelain kettle and slowly poured all his magical power into it.

This is a magical artifact called the "Spirit Testing Pot," used to measure magical power. It's the most common white-grade Spirit Testing Pot.

The magic power was poured in little by little until it was all poured in, and in the end, only a very small part of the bottom of the Spirit Testing Pot lit up.

At the first level of Qi Refining, one's mana is one-thirty-sixth of that of a Spirit Testing Pot. One can probably cast nine spells before exhausting their mana. Because it is so little, it recovers relatively quickly, taking about half an hour to fully recover naturally. If one uses internal energy, the recovery time can be shortened by two-thirds.

At the second level of Qi Refining, one's magical power can reach one-third of the amount in the Spirit Testing Pot, which is twelve times the magical power of the first level of Qi Refining. One can cast at least 108 spells a day.

Once you reach the third level of Qi Refining, you will have the power of a pot. Your magical power is three times that of the second level of Qi Refining and thirty-six times that of the first level of Qi Refining. You can cast spells more than three hundred times a day.

At the fourth level of Qi Refining, one possesses the power of three pots.

The higher one goes, the more magical power a cultivator possesses.

Having so many means that so many spells can be cast; however, the specifics depend on the cultivator's choice.

Using the Emerald Bee Spell, with minimal power, only two magical emerald bees are summoned, and it can be cast nine times at the first level of Qi Refining.

However, the maximum number of magical emerald bees that can be summoned by the Emerald Bee Spell is twelve at once. The difference in magical power between this spell and summoning only two is not six times, but ten times!

The difference in mana consumption between using the least amount and using the most amount is tenfold.

The power varies depending on the spell. Some spells increase significantly with more use of their power. The Transformation into Emerald Bee Spell has the biggest difference, capable of increasing power by up to six times. However, it is also more difficult. Each additional emerald bee that one manipulates requires more concentration, increasing the pressure on the soul, the continuity of mana, and even the physical meridians. It cannot be achieved simply by increasing mana output. From beginner to mastery, any spell requires a great deal of training and dedication.

This is one of them.

Secondly, there is a difference between spells. When a spell is mastered, even with maximum mana, the difference in power between the spell and its original form is only two to three times, which is still considerable. However, the time and effort required to achieve this is extremely high.

Therefore, cultivation realm is very important for cultivators.

The gap in legal strength affects not only the duration of improvement, but also all aspects of progress.

"Practice the Earth Magic a few times before you go to sleep."

Chen Guang lit the spirit lantern, illuminating the courtyard. After closing the gate, he went to the spirit field to begin practicing. Since he could practice anywhere, he might as well practice in the spirit field, which would be like loosening the soil.

As for theft or anything like that, Chen Guang wasn't afraid.

If Chen Guang were robbed or lost something, the ones who should be worried are the thief and the disciples in charge of the branch building. Chen Guang would receive compensation, while these people would be severely punished.

The Qingheng Sect is generous and has lenient rules, but if you violate them or do something wrong, you will be severely punished!

Within a few miles, there were only two disciples in charge, both at least at the seventh level of Qi Refining, plus three or five outer disciples from the Xingfeng Hall office. The Qingheng Sect had the means to allow Chen Guang and his group to leave their doors unlocked at night. However, out of good habit, Chen Guang still obediently closed the courtyard gate.

……

The next morning, after the purple aura dissipated and he finished his cultivation, Chen Guang busied himself in the spirit field.

First, ditches were dug, and clear, cool water flowed into Chen Guang's sacred fields.

Purple soil is prone to hardening and compaction, which is its drawback. It also dries out easily, which exacerbates this problem.

So first, add water to moisten the spiritual soil, and then start loosening the soil for planting. But don't add too much, otherwise too much purple spiritual soil will result in an exaggeratedly compacted soil.

Chen Guang held a pointed hoe in his hand, with spiritual patterns shining on it. Spiritual tools are not magical artifacts and do not require magic power. They are simply made of good materials and have been blessed with some secret patterns to give them specific effects.

Without a spirit hoe, an ordinary hoe cannot dig through the hardened spirit soil, nor can it support the high-intensity labor of farming.

Cultivating fields and planting crops is inseparable from magical tools like hoes. Even though Chen Guang is a cultivator, he can only use about nine spells in one go before he runs out of energy. Although he recovers quickly, he cannot rely solely on spells to cultivate the fields.

There's a reason why the higher one's cultivation level, the more spiritual fields one can cultivate.

Chen Guang raised the hoe and began to cultivate the spirit field, hoe stroke by stroke. The tip of the hoe had a sharp glint of light, which helped Chen Guang easily cut into the purple spirit soil, which was as hard and solid as stone.

That's what happens when something sits idle for too long.

Planting spirit fields is not difficult, but it is arduous, especially purple spirit soil, which requires constant care. In the past, three acres of spirit fields could keep Chen Guang almost entirely occupied in the fields all day long, with no way to escape.

The sacred soil must be loosened at all times.

Weeds need to be removed regularly.

The weeds in the spirit field were incredibly lush. In one day, they could grow as much as the weeds in the mountains and forests in six or seven days during the summer. Chen Guang was weeding almost every day. Although the spirit field had been idle due to the harvest, he still diligently weeded at home. After going to Xingfeng Market for a few days, the weeds had grown to chest height.

Weeding and loosening the soil at the same time.

A spiritual tool is not a magical artifact. Whether it has magic power or not, its power is the same and fixed. Chen Guang was slightly faster than last year. When he encountered really solid spiritual soil, he easily loosened the spiritual soil with earth magic. This level of skill was already helpful.

This greatly reduced Chen Guang's burden; otherwise, it would have taken him more than half an hour to cultivate such a small area, one zhang (approximately 3.3 meters) at a time.

"If you cultivate the Earth Qi Technique to the highest level, you can easily loosen an area with a diameter of three zhang and a depth of one zhang," Chen Guang said, gaining some insights as he used the Earth Qi Technique. "At that level, it's not just for farming; it can also be used in combat. If you encounter someone who uses Earth Wall Technique or Stone Shield Technique for defense, you can immediately make the earth wall collapse and the stone shield soften with the use of the Earth Qi Technique."

As Chen Guang worked, he also dreamed about the future, and he didn't feel that it was hard work.

In half a day, only one-fifth of the one-acre spirit field had been cultivated. This was with the help of the Earth Qi Technique. Without this technique, the efficiency would be even lower, and at most one-eighth of the field would have been cultivated.

In the surrounding spiritual fields, people could be seen working; as spring approached, the spiritual farmers were all busy.

People greet each other by looking at each other from a distance. Farming is hard work, from sunrise to sunset. Except for about three or four months of leisure time after the autumn harvest when they can exchange farming experiences, they don't really communicate much on weekdays.

"In the past, I would feel tired after working for half a day, especially with some back pain. Now, although I am still tired, I don't feel like I want to lie down and never get up again. The back pain is also much less." Chen Guang couldn't help but feel excited. His strength hadn't increased much, but the effects of cultivating the "Blood Scripture" had already shown some. "Go home and cook. Starting today, I can rest less. I'll come back early this afternoon to start working. This acre of spiritual field should be cultivated in three days."

Chen Guang cut off the water supply to the canal, shouldered his hoe, and hummed a little tune as he went home.
