The light in Lin Xinyue's room stayed on all night.

Chen Xun woke up at seven in the morning. He lay in bed and listened to the outside, but there was no sound at all.

He got up to wash up and paused as he passed Lin Xinyue's room. It was dark under the door; the light was off.

She may have just fallen asleep, or she may not have fallen asleep at all.

Chen Xun went downstairs to the breakfast shop and bought four servings of soy milk and fried dough sticks. After thinking for a moment, he added an extra tea egg to Lin Xinyue's serving.

Back at the apartment, Li Qian and Yang Xiaotao were already up and sitting at the dining table.

"Good morning, big brother," Yang Xiaotao said softly, her eyes secretly glancing at Lin Xinyue's room door.

"Good morning." Chen Xun placed breakfast on the table. "Where's Xin Yue?"

"She's not up yet, is she?" Li Qian said, picking up a cup of soy milk. "Should I save one for her?"

"No need, I'll go check." Chen Xun picked up the breakfast with an egg and walked to Lin Xinyue's room.

He knocked on the door.

There was no sound.

He knocked again: "Xinyue, breakfast is ready."

There was a rustling sound coming from inside, and then the door opened.

Lin Xinyue was wearing pajamas, her hair was a little messy, and she had dark circles under her eyes.

"I'm not hungry," she said, her voice hoarse.

"I bought soy milk, drink it while it's hot." Chen Xun handed over the bag.

Lin Xinyue looked at him but didn't take it.

Chen Xun didn't stop, he just kept it up.

A few seconds later, Lin Xinyue reached out and took it.

"Thank you," she said, her voice still very low.

"See you at the store," Chen Xun said.

Lin Xinyue hummed in agreement and closed the door.

Chen Xun returned to the dining table. Li Qian glanced at him but didn't say anything.

Yang Xiaotao took a small bite of the fried dough stick and didn't dare to say anything.

The atmosphere was a bit tense.

After breakfast, Chen Xun drove Li Qian and Yang Xiaotao to the store.

No one spoke on the street.

Upon arriving at the store, Chen Xun opened the door and found that the lights inside were already on.

Lin Xinyue was squatting over by the shelves, organizing things.

She arrived even earlier than them.

"Sister Xinyue?" Yang Xiaotao called out.

Lin Xinyue turned around, her face expressionless: "You're here? I'm checking the inventory; a few bottles of seasoning are about to expire."

She was holding several bottles of chili oil and vinegar.

Chen Xun walked over and said, "Give it to me, I'll take care of it."

Lin Xinyue handed him the bottle, their fingers touched, and she quickly pulled her hand back.

Chen Xun took the expired seasonings to the back, and Li Qian and Yang Xiaotao began preparing for business.

There weren't many customers in the morning; a few students came intermittently.

Around 10 o'clock, there weren't many people left in the store.

Chen Xun walked behind the cashier, where Lin Xinyue was taking notes.

"I'm delighted," Chen Xun said.

Lin Xinyue looked up at him.

"I want to make use of that empty space over there," Chen Xun pointed to a vacant area by the window of the shop, "to create a rest area, with some sofas and plants, so customers can sit while waiting for their food."

Lin Xinyue followed his hand and looked over: "Hmm, it is a bit empty."

"Could you help me figure out how to do this properly?" Chen Xun took out a piece of paper and a pen from under the counter. "Draw a sketch."

Lin Xinyue hesitated for a moment before taking the pen.

She drew a rough floor plan of the shop on paper, marking the locations of the windows, cash register, and kitchen.

"The sofa can be placed by the window, two or three single seats will be enough, it doesn't need to be too big," Lin Xinyue said as she drew. "Put a small coffee table in the middle, and you can put a few potted plants on the sides."

Chen Xun leaned closer to look: "What kind of green plants should I choose?"

"They're easy to care for, like pothos and snake plants," Lin Xinyue said. "They don't need frequent watering."

"What color is the sofa?"

"Light gray, it's dirt-resistant and goes well with the industrial style of our store."

The two of them huddled together, looking at the piece of paper.

Li Qian was wiping the table when she glanced over here but didn't say anything.

Yang Xiaotao was washing things in the kitchen, the water was splashing.

"You can choose a natural wood coffee table to match the floor color," Lin Xinyue continued drawing. "And put a bookshelf here with some magazines or something, so guests can browse around freely."

"Okay." Chen Xun nodded. "Shall I go look at some furniture this afternoon?"

Lin Xinyue put down her pen: "I'll go with you. Some details need to be seen in person."

She said it very naturally, and then paused for a moment afterward.

Chen Xun looked at her and said, "Okay."

We were busy for a while at noon, but the number of customers decreased around 1 p.m.

Li Qian walked over and said, "Big brother, Sister Xinyue, weren't you going to look at furniture? Go now, Xiaotao and I can watch the store."

Yang Xiaotao poked her head out from the kitchen: "Yes, yes, you guys go ahead, we can manage."

Lin Xinyue glanced at Li Qian.

Li Qian smiled at her: "The sooner we decide, the sooner we can get things done, so we won't keep worrying about it."

Chen Xun picked up the car keys: "Okay, let's go and come back quickly."

Lin Xinyue went to the back to get her bag and followed Chen Xun out the door.

Get in the car and fasten your seatbelt.

Chen Xun started the car: "Which furniture store to go to?"

"The one on the east side, they have everything," Lin Xinyue said.

"OK."

The car drove off, and neither of them spoke at first.

The radio was on, broadcasting the news.

"Um..." Chen Xun began.

"Hmm?" Lin Xinyue looked out the window.

"About yesterday..." Chen Xun said.

"It's in the past," Lin Xinyue interrupted him, her voice calm. "Let's not talk about it anymore."

Chen Xun glanced at her.

Lin Xinyue turned her head to the side, looking at the street scene receding outside the car window, her eyelashes were very long.

"Hmm," Chen Xun said.

The car drove for more than twenty minutes before arriving at the furniture store.

After parking the car, the two went inside.

It's very large inside; the first floor is a sofa area.

Lin Xinyue took a liking to a light gray fabric sofa and sat down to try it out.

"This is quite comfortable," she said.

Chen Xun sat down for a moment: "It's alright, how much?"

The salesperson came over to quote a price, and the two looked at a few more models and compared them.

In the end, we decided on the one that Lin Xinyue had her eye on, along with a matching light wood-colored small coffee table.

I paid the deposit and arranged for delivery tomorrow.

"Let's take a look at the plants over there," Lin Xinyue pointed to another area.

The two walked over and picked out a few potted green plants and snake plants.

After shopping, it was already past 3 p.m.

As we left the furniture store, the sky darkened.

"It's going to rain." Chen Xun looked up at the sky.

"Let's go back quickly," Lin Xinyue said.

The two walked quickly towards the parking lot, and just as they reached the car, raindrops began to fall.

It started as a light drizzle, but after a few steps it turned into a downpour.

Chen Xun opened the passenger door: "Get in quickly."

Lin Xinyue got in, Chen Xun closed the door, and went around to the driver's side to get in the car.

Both of them were a little wet.

Chen Xun pulled out a few tissues and handed them to Lin Xinyue: "Wipe yourself."

"Thank you." Lin Xinyue took it and wiped her hair and face.

The rain was getting heavier and heavier, pattering loudly against the roof of the car.

Chen Xun started the car, turned the windshield wipers on full blast, but his vision was still a bit blurry.

"Let's wait until the rain subsides before we leave," he said.

"Hmm." Lin Xinyue looked at the heavy rain outside the window.

The car's air conditioning was on, so it was a bit chilly.

Lin Xinyue crossed her arms and rubbed them together.

Chen Xun turned the air conditioner temperature up a little.

"Are you still cold?" he asked.

"I'm feeling better," Lin Xinyue said.

The two sat in the car, watching the rain outside.

The rain curtain blurred the world into a gray haze, with only the nearby streetlights casting a dim yellow glow.

"Big brother," Lin Xinyue suddenly spoke.

"Um?"

"Actually, I thought about it all night yesterday," Lin Xinyue said softly. "I've figured it out."

Chen Xun turned to look at her.

Lin Xinyue didn't look at him, still gazing out the window: "My liking you is my business. Your liking Xiaotao is your business. I can't demand that you only like me just because I like you."

She paused for a moment: "That would be too selfish."

Chen Xun remained silent.

"I just need some time," Lin Xinyue said. "Give me some time to put this behind me, okay?"

"Okay," Chen Xun said.

Lin Xinyue smiled and turned to look at him: "Until then, let's be the same as before, okay? You don't avoid me, and I won't avoid you."

Chen Xun looked at her and said, "Okay."

Lin Xinyue seemed to breathe a sigh of relief, as if she had relaxed a bit.

The rain gradually subsided.

Chen Xun started the car: "Let's go back."

"Um."

As the car drove off, the rain hadn't completely stopped; it was still drizzling.

Halfway there, the rain got a bit heavier.

Chen Xun parked the car on the side of the road: "Wait a while before leaving, the rain is too heavy."

"it is good."

The car fell silent again.

This time, the silence wasn't as painful.

Lin Xinyue leaned back in her chair and closed her eyes.

Chen Xun looked at her.

There was still a little moisture on her eyelashes, and the tip of her nose was a little red.

The rain has lessened.

Chen Xun restarted the car and drove all the way back to the store.

The rain hadn't stopped, so Chen Xun took an umbrella out of the trunk and opened it.

"Come here," he said.

Lin Xinyue walked over and slipped under the umbrella.

The umbrella wasn't big, so the two people had to stand close together.

Chen Xun tilted the umbrella slightly towards Lin Xinyue.

The two walked towards the store entrance.

Lin Xinyue suddenly reached out and took Chen Xun's arm.

Chen Xun was stunned for a moment.

Lin Xinyue didn't look at him, but gently rested her head on his shoulder.

"Just a little while," she said, her voice muffled, "just a short walk to the shop."

Chen Xun hummed in agreement.

The two walked arm in arm, leaning against each other, for the dozen or so meters from the parking lot to the store entrance.

Upon arriving at the store entrance, Chen Xun closed his umbrella.

Lin Xinyue let go of the door and went inside first.

Li Qian and Yang Xiaotao were packing their things when they saw them come in.

"You're back?" Li Qian asked. "Did you buy everything?"

"I've bought it, I'll deliver it tomorrow," Chen Xun said.

Yang Xiaotao glanced at Lin Xinyue, then at Chen Xun.

Lin Xinyue didn't have any particular expression on her face, except that her ears were a little red.

"Xinyue, your hair is wet," Yang Xiaotao said, bringing over a dry towel.

"Thank you." Lin Xinyue took the towel and dried her hair.

Chen Xun placed the umbrella at the door and walked in.

Li Qian looked at him and smiled.

That smile was somewhat meaningful.

Chen Xun ignored her and walked behind the cashier: "How was business this afternoon?"

"It's alright, we sold over forty bowls," Li Qian said. "It's just that fewer people came when it rained."

"That's normal," Chen Xun said.

After drying her hair, Lin Xinyue hung the towel back up and began to tally the afternoon's accounts.

Her movements were natural, just like usual.

Yang Xiaotao leaned closer to Li Qian and whispered, "Sister Qian, what about Sister Xinyue and Big Brother...?"

"It's alright now," Li Qian said, her voice neither too loud nor too soft, just loud enough for everyone in the shop to hear. "The storm has passed."

Lin Xinyue looked up and glared at her.

Li Qian smiled and went to mop the floor.

Chen Xun took out his phone and looked at it.

The system panel is lit up.

Lin Xinyue's favorability rating is fluctuating.

It starts to rise from 80.

81...83...85...

It finally stopped at 86.

It stopped moving.

Chen Xun put away his phone.

Outside the window, the rain has stopped.

A small patch of sunset glow appeared on the horizon.

Red.
