At thirty, I started my comeback from the intelligence system.
Chapter 78 Murder to Silence
The interrogation room was dimly lit.
Wearing handcuffs and shackles, Lu Jiahao sat on a specially made interrogation chair, his face ashen, but his eyes remained stubborn, carrying a hint of desperate ferocity.
On the table in front of him were some photos of the dock scene, including the horrific conditions of the imprisoned girls, the seized weapons, and close-ups of Juan's mangled corpse.
Chang Le sat opposite him, his baby face devoid of its usual feigned ease, replaced by a calm and penetrating focus.
He didn't lose his temper; instead, he used a calm yet unyielding tone to peel away Lu Jiahao's psychological defenses layer by layer.
Everyone knows that Lu Jiahao is backed by the Lu family, and the backbone of the Lu family is Lu Jingxiang.
Therefore, Chang Le inevitably mentioned Lu Jingxiang, Lu Shiming, the possible fate of those girls, and the severe legal punishment he was about to face, from which he had no chance of escaping.
"Lu Jiahao, do you think that if you don't speak up, no one will know what role District Chief Lu Jingxiang played in all of this? Do you think Lu Shiming can rest easy in Hanfeng?"
"The incident at the dock involved the death of a foreigner, the use of firearms, and the involvement of an international terrorist organization. This is no longer something that you, or even District Chief Lu, can cover up. By speaking up now, you are trying to buy yourself a little bit of room to maneuver, and also to leave some dignity for the Lu family."
Chang Le's voice wasn't loud, but it was exceptionally clear in the silent interrogation room.
Lu Jiahao's Adam's apple bobbed violently, his eyes flickered intensely, and his lips moved.
"Don't try to induce me to confess! I'll take responsibility for my actions. This is my territory, I accept it! If something happens at the dock, I definitely can't escape accountability!"
"But I know nothing else about these things, and they have nothing to do with the people you're talking about!"
Accompanying him was an officer from the "Sea Dragon" unit, who sat expressionlessly to the side taking notes, his eyes sharp as an eagle, observing every subtle reaction of Lu Jiahao.
Just as the atmosphere reached its peak, and Lu Jiahao's psychological defenses seemed to crack slightly—
"Sizzle—smack!"
All the pale fluorescent lights overhead, along with the emergency indicator lights on the walls, went out without warning at the same instant!
The entire interrogation room, and even the corridor outside, was instantly plunged into absolute, chilling darkness!
Only the faintest, deepest indigo light of the pre-dawn sky shone through the window at the end of the corridor, outlining the blurry contours of objects.
"What's going on?!"
"Power outage? What about the backup power?!"
Inside and outside the interrogation room, gasps of astonishment instantly filled the air.
Chang Le and the "Sea Dragon" officer stood up almost at the same time the lights went out, their muscles tense.
Lu Jiahao was also startled and suddenly looked up, futilely glancing around in the darkness.
"Keep an eye on the suspect! Stay alert!"
The officer gave a low shout, his hand already on the holster at his waist, while simultaneously making a rapid call into his earpiece.
"Command Center! A sudden power outage has occurred throughout the interrogation room; backup power has not activated! Repeat, power outage in the interrogation room! Requesting immediate investigation and support!"
However, all that came through the headset was a noisy crackling sound, and the signal seemed to be interfered with.
The sound of hurried and slightly chaotic footsteps came from the corridor. It was the police officers on duty nearby who came running after hearing the noise, but the darkness severely hindered their vision and movement.
In the midst of this sudden, perfect darkness and chaos—
A shadow, deeper and swifter than darkness, like a ghost without substance, slipped through the grille of the ceiling vent in the corridor, landing silently.
The shadowy figure seemed extremely familiar with the city police station's internal structure. Avoiding the police who rushed to the scene after hearing the commotion, and using the darkness and the shadows of the walls, it approached the heavy iron door of the interrogation room with an eerie speed and precision.
The dark figure paused in front of the door for less than half a second, and there seemed to be a very faint metallic scraping sound in its hand.
The next second, the alloy door, which required a specific access card and password to open from the outside, made a barely audible "click" sound from the lock.
The door slowly cracked open.
The dark figure slid in sideways, like flowing water.
Inside the interrogation room, Chang Le and the officer had drawn their pistols. Relying on their memories and the dim light, they stood guard on either side of Lu Jiahao, cautiously facing the doorway.
Lu Jiahao stared wide-eyed in terror, desperately shrinking back in the darkness.
However, the "people" who came in had an extremely clear goal.
Darkness seemed to be his domain, where he thrived.
Chang Le felt an extremely sharp gust of wind rush towards him, faster than he could react. He instinctively raised his arm to block, but his forearm felt like it had hit steel. A sharp pain shot through him, and the pistol slipped from his hand.
At the same time, he heard the "Sea Dragon" officer let out a muffled groan, as if he too had been attacked with lightning speed.
The shadowy figure's attacks on the two guards were merely a fleeting distraction; the real target remained unchanged.
Lu Jiahao didn't even see the person's face clearly. He only felt a cold, iron-like hand grab his throat with irresistible force, and another hand seemed to press down very quickly on his chest.
"Uh...ha..."
Lu Jiahao's eyes bulged out, and he made desperate hoarse sounds as he struggled in vain, the shackles on his hands and feet rattling loudly.
The entire process, from the shadowy figure sneaking in to completing the attack, took only two or three seconds.
Quick! Accurate! Ruthless! Silent!
After succeeding, the shadowy figure did not linger. Just as before, it released its grip, twisted its body, and slipped out through the crack in the door, disappearing into the still-lingering darkness of the corridor. With a few leaps, it vanished into the complex shadows of the stairwell without a trace.
"Bang!" Only then did the "Sea Dragon" officer, who had been repelled, slam into the wall with a dull thud.
"Lu Jiahao!"
Despite the pain in his arm, Chang Le lunged towards the interrogation chair.
Almost at the same moment the shadow disappeared, with a "whoosh," the overhead lights suddenly switched back on, stinging eyes that had just adjusted to the darkness. The backup power had finally kicked in.
Under the stark white light, Lu Jiahao slumped in the interrogation chair, his head tilted limply to one side, his eyes wide open, filled with terror and disbelief, a trickle of dark red, foamy blood spilling from the corner of his mouth.
On his chest, near his heart, there was a tiny, almost imperceptible mark on his clothes, as if a fine needle had been pierced and pulled out in an instant.
Chang Le's hand trembled as he reached for his carotid artery.
A dead silence!
The "Sea Dragon" officer, clutching his chest and with a livid face, checked on Lu Jiahao's condition. Then, into his earpiece, he growled in an unprecedentedly cold and urgent tone:
"Commander Lang! In the interrogation room, target Lu Jiahao has been silenced!"
"One suspect, male, approximately 1.75 meters tall, extremely skilled in stealth assassination, left less than ten seconds ago!"
"Immediately seal off all exits of the building! Activate Level 1 alert!"
However, everyone knew that in that perfect use of the power outage, darkness, and the sudden chaos, the shadowy assassin had probably already vanished like a drop of water flowing into the ocean, disappearing into the endless shadows of this massive building and the deepest darkness before dawn.
Inside the interrogation room, only Lu Jiahao's gradually cooling corpse and the pervasive, chilling aura of death remained.
