In another world, Lu Mingfei is learning card making.

Let's call Chapter 23 the Mental Arithmetic Flashcards.

Lu Mingfei gave a brief account of his life on Earth. Rong En pondered for a moment, showing no sign of regret, but simply asked another question:

"So what's the problem you're facing now? Will that rival you mentioned still come looking for trouble?"

Hearing this warmed Lu Mingfei's heart, but he wasn't thinking about Rong En's entanglement with Earth—he still wanted to hear the story of the spirit in the other world, so he thought of urging Rong En to go back to sleep.

"...Why do you have to go back to sleep if you want to?" This was the first answer Rong En thought of after hearing Lu Mingfei's roundabout urging:

"I heard my dad say that when they were in the army, they slept on a large communal bed. At first, no one was used to it. Some went to bed early, some went to bed late, and some even got up in the middle of the night. Some had smelly feet, some had smelly breath, and some had smelly armpits. But after they got used to it, when they went back to sleeping in single rooms, none of them were used to it anymore..."

"I've never slept with a friend before. We're friends too, so come on, don't be shy, lie down and sleep together."

...What the hell?

Lu Mingfei looked horrified, but Rong En acted without hesitation: he grabbed Lu Mingfei's arm with a wicked grin and pulled him down onto the bed.

In the past ten years or so of his life, since he could remember, Lu Mingfei had never slept in the same bed with someone of the same sex—not even his father had ever had this privilege. Even when Lu Mingze slept in the same room with him, they slept in separate beds and never shared a bed.

But now, some people even want to pin him down on the bed and sleep with him?

"No—" Lu Mingfei immediately began to resist, "This is my first time—"

"That's a familiar saying," Ron seized the opportunity, cracking a joke as he pressed on, "We're talking about sleeping together, so do you know who a child should face when sleeping with monks and nuns?"

"Huh?" Lu Mingfei asked in confusion, his grip loosening as Rong En seized the opportunity to pin him to the bed. "Who should we be facing?"

"Look towards the sky." Rong En immediately crossed Lu Mingfei's arms together, preventing him from sitting up. "Because only in this way will you not stab someone or be stabbed for no reason."

"Alright, alright, it's just a joke." Seeing that he had subdued Lu Mingfei, Rong En lay down on the bed as well. "There are plenty more jokes like this, do you want to hear them?"

Not to be outdone, Lu Mingfei racked his brains and pulled out a clue from his memory: "For example... a cultivator's bucket of excrement is equivalent to two buckets for someone else, right?"

"A cultivator's bucket of excrement is worth two buckets of someone else's?" Rong En was stunned for a moment, then suddenly burst into laughter, slapping Lu Mingfei's shoulder hard as he laughed. "Truly worthy of being called a hero!"

"Does this kind of joke have a tradition in the hero's dream? Tell me two more!"

Lu Mingfei looked hesitant—it seemed like it really was true.

"Then I'll begin." Lu Mingfei cleared his throat and began to speak:

"The old monk, seeing the nobles bathing—first the elderly, then the adults, then the children—said with a sigh:"

"Only our church has no rules. Before the abbot even went into the water, all the young monks were already naked."

After thinking for a moment, Rong En lay on the bed, clutching his stomach, and burst into laughter.

He laughed and pounded the bed, eventually even trying to pound Lu Mingfei's shoulder, only to be kicked aside by Lu Mingfei in the stomach.

"Alright, that's enough for a couple of laughs. We have a math class first thing tomorrow morning—starting from the second week, our classes will be much busier, so we need to prepare well."

Lu Mingfei raised his hand and released his magic, which penetrated the magic circle in the wall, accurately shutting off the candles that were maintaining the light without affecting the cold wind blowing from all directions.

"Wow..." Rong En exclaimed in amazement and lay down on the bed.

"Lu Mingfei, how did you do that? Every time I try to extinguish the candles, I accidentally turn off the airflow magic circle as well..."

"It's probably... the feel of it."

……

The next morning, Lu Mingfei got up at 6:30.

He glanced at Rong En, who was still lying in bed, and decided to let him sleep a little longer. He then quietly went out and began his morning exercise in the morning light.

I ran laps, loosened up my joints, and then practiced two sets of magic wand techniques with the Divine Iron Staff. Before breakfast, I went back to brush my teeth and woke Ron up.

In short, at eight o'clock, Lu Mingfei finally met his arithmetic teacher.

"I'll say it again, don't call me a witch. That's a nickname your students gave me. This outfit is the traditional clothing of our fairy community. The markings on my body are because I need to suppress a curse. I don't offer any companion services—"

Long, flowing hair, a jet-black dress, a pointed witch's hat, a single gold-rimmed spectacle, pale skin with magical markings beneath, always speaking in a cold tone, shameless but with a phobia of stupidity, a ten-year-old child's physique (incidentally, Professor Sarah is also this size), a fairy, male—

Professor Lintel Meltz, the jewel of the entire St. Marian College!

St. Mary's College, from its name to its professors and students, exudes a sense of female dominance. For example, among the faculty, lower-year students have access to almost exclusively female professors, while upper-year students can say without "almost."

The reason why lower-grade students can still retain this "almost" is the professor standing on the podium right now.

"If you mention these rumors in my class again, I will deduct points from your grade without hesitation."

"Now, open your books, let's begin our first lesson—"

Lu Mingfei opened the book, hesitated for a moment, and decided to clear his mind and rest his brain for a while. He had always felt that this new world was better than Earth, in terms of food, clothing, shelter, and even supernatural powers, as if it were an optimized version of Earth.

And now he knows that there's still one area that hasn't been optimized:

"Mathematics..." Lu Mingfei rubbed his chin and sighed.

He had already read through the textbook for this lesson from beginning to end during breakfast, and his assessment was, "It should be used as a primary school textbook, for English."

Can you believe that their entire school year's task is to learn mixed arithmetic operations? That's all they have to learn, and it could even be expanded into a whole book!

Even the workbook that was handed out at the same time seemed to deserve a new name from Lu Mingfei: "Look at it, it's covered in mental arithmetic problems, and every page can be torn out and used as flashcards. Hey, let's give it a new name, let's call it... Mental Arithmetic Flashcards!"

"Sigh..." Lu Mingfei sighed.

If I attend the lecture, what the teacher says isn't very useful; if I don't attend, it seems disrespectful to the teacher...

Lu Mingfei made a compromise decision: to finish the mental arithmetic worksheets first.
