[Extra chapter today, around 11 PM.]

[The case will be divided into separate files. The case file for Major Crimes Unit 6 will cover the infamous 815 bank robbery, and everyone involved will have their story explained.]

[The second volume has been decided. It will be a military story, approached from a different perspective, and will incorporate elements from military dramas such as "Soldiers' Assault" (mainly the Old A unit), "I Am a Special Forces Soldier," and "Fire Phoenix." The outlines for the volumes are almost complete.]

The first volume didn't deviate much from the original plot, while the second volume is mostly original content, with the original plot mainly serving as a reference and branching story.

[I originally wanted to write medical dramas like "The Art of Medicine," but after studying medical knowledge for a long time, I still don't understand it and am still researching. So, the third volume will focus on "The Art of Medicine," with "Young Doctor" and "Emergency Room Doctor" as secondary plots.]

that's all.

When Tian Rui returned from the property management office, she was walking briskly, carrying not only the resident list but also an extra piece of paper. She walked up to Ji Jie and handed her the paper: "Sister Ji, we've found out who owns that car."

Ji Jie took the note and glanced at it. It contained the car owner's name and contact information; it was a woman's name.

"She lives on the 18th floor. Her name is Liao Jiangqun, and she works as a cashier." Tian Rui took a breath and continued, "That car doesn't belong to her; she borrowed it from someone else. The owner is a friend of hers."

Ji Jie stood there silently, holding the note, seemingly lost in thought. Zhang Yang, standing beside her, was flipping through the resident registration form that Tian Rui had brought back. His finger traced down the column for the 18th floor when he suddenly stopped, looked up, and asked Tian Rui, "Tian Rui, why did Liao Jiangqun, who borrowed someone else's car, specifically buy a parking space? The property management said that parking space number 88 was reserved for her."

Tian Rui was taken aback: "I didn't ask that."

Zhang Yang closed the registration form, looked up at the building, and changed the subject: "Do you think the probability of people from the same workplace buying houses in the same complex and the same building is quite small?"

Ji Jie turned to look at him: "Zhang Yang, are you suspecting something?"

Zhang Yang nodded, speaking bluntly: "Liao Jiangqun is just a cashier. Where would he get the money to buy a house in this neighborhood? If it's a company-provided housing benefit, think about it, how could an ordinary cashier be so lucky as to get a house?"

As Tian Rui listened, her expression changed, her lips turning down as if she were contemplating something unpleasant: "Zhang Yang, you don't mean... she and him..."

Zhang Yang didn't dodge the question and nodded: "Mr. Tong Jiaxian must be a minor official in his unit, right?"

Ji Jie folded the car owner's note and put it in her pocket, saying decisively, "Since we've already suspected them, let's go to their workplace."

The three of them drove to Tong Jiaxian and Liao Jiangqun's workplace. The factory wasn't large; there was a guardhouse at the main gate, where an elderly man with gray hair but bright eyes sat. Ji Jie walked ahead, a smile on her face, and said, "Master, we are Liao Jiangqun's friends..."

Before she could finish speaking, the experienced craftsman waved his hand to stop her, his tone carrying the wisdom of someone who had been through it all: "Don't say anything more, I know what you do. Sit down, let's talk."

The three men found chairs in the gatehouse and sat down. The old man poured each of them a glass of water, then sat down himself, smiling at them. He said, "Don't let my current job as a gatekeeper fool you; I used to be the director of the factory office." A hint of pride lingered on his face as he spoke, then he lowered his voice, adding with a touch of seasoned experience, "Nothing escapes my eyes. Now that Director Tong is dead, you want to know about his connection with Liao Jiangqun, right?"

Director Tong's words stirred something within Zhang Yang. He was right; Tong Jiaxian was not only an official but also a factory director.

Ji Jie smiled and smoothly handed over the conversation: "Then please speak freely."

The experienced worker immediately became serious and said, "I wouldn't dare to say anything casually to the police. Your record is fine; I haven't lied at all." He paused, as if flipping through his memory, "The year before last, our factory bought ten apartments in the same complex where Director Tong and Liao Jiangqun lived. That was the last time we allocated welfare housing; everyone was scrambling to get one, and many middle-level managers didn't get any."

Tian Rui couldn't help but ask, "How did Liao Jiangqun, an ordinary cashier, get assigned to that position?"

The old master looked at her and smiled. The meaning in that smile was clearer than any words. He didn't say a word, but he said everything.

Tian Rui turned to look at Zhang Yang, then back at the old master craftsman. She opened her mouth, then hesitated for a long time before finally managing to utter, "This... one is twenty-eight, the other is fifty-eight, the difference is too big."

The experienced driver still had that same unfazed expression: "You police officers have seen far more of this than I have."

Ji Jie glanced at Tian Rui, her tone half-reminder and half-teasing: "Are you new here?"

The old master craftsman was a straightforward man. He stopped hiding anything and told everything he knew about Tong Jiaxian and Liao Jiangqun, including the purchase and sales invoices, the frequent overtime work, and the unspoken rumors in the factory. He explained everything clearly, one by one.

After leaving the gatehouse, the three of them stood at the factory gate. Zhang Yang looked down at the notebook filled with several pages of notes and said, "Now, Liao Jiangqun is becoming increasingly suspicious."

Ji Jie opened the car door, glanced back at the old buildings in the factory area, and said in a calm tone, "Go ask Liao Jiangqun."

Back in the residential complex, this time I went straight up to the 18th floor.

The hallway was quiet when Ji Jie knocked on the door. After a few seconds, the door opened a crack, and Liao Jiangqun stood behind it, wearing a black dress, her hair tied up, her expression calm, neither surprised nor flustered.

Who are you looking for?

Ji Jie showed her identification: "Police officer, I need to ask you a few questions."

Liao Jiangqun neither took the ID nor looked at it; his hand was still on the doorknob. His tone was flat: "I'm sorry, I don't have time."

Tian Rui took half a step forward: "Cooperating with the police in handling cases is the duty of every citizen."

Liao Jiangqun's gaze shifted to Tian Rui's face, still with that indifferent expression: "The police can't just disturb residents' normal lives." She pulled the door back a little. "I said, I'm busy."

Ji Jie didn't argue with her directly. She tilted her head and glanced into the room, a slight smile appearing on her lips: "We have guests?"

As soon as he finished speaking, a man walked over from behind Liao Jiangqun. He was wearing an apron and his hands were still wet. He peeked at the three people outside the door and said in a very casual tone, "Ah Qun, we have guests? Let me chop the vegetables."

Liao Jiangqun turned to the side, her voice suddenly softening, with a hint of reproach: "Don't move, you're so clumsy. Just wash it clean and put it there."

When she turned to face Ji Jie again, her expression returned to its previous polite and distant state, as if the tenderness of that moment had never existed. She said, "My love."

Ji Jie didn't look inside anymore and asked directly, "When are you free?"

Liao Jiangqun thought for a moment and said, "I'll be home at 12:20 tomorrow noon."

"Okay, see you tomorrow."

Liao Jiangqun nodded, and the door closed. The movement was neither fast nor slow; he didn't slam the door or hesitate.

Tian Rui, who had been holding her breath all this time, reached out to knock on the door again, but Ji Jie grabbed her wrist. Tian Rui's eyes widened, and she lowered her voice, unable to suppress her confusion: "Hey, isn't she single? How come she has a lover?"

Ji Jie put a finger to her lips and glared at her, as if to say, "Do you really have to stand at someone's door and discuss this?"

After going downstairs, the three of them stood at the entrance of the building. The rain outside had long since stopped, but the ground was still wet, and there was a smell of damp earth in the air. As Ji Jie walked out, she began to assign tasks: "Tian Rui, you go and check Liao Jiangqun's resume, find out everything from beginning to end. Zhang Yang, you go and find out two things: whose car it is, and who the man in the house is."

"Okay," Zhang Yang replied.

Tian Rui nodded and noted it down. After taking a couple of steps, she looked back at the window on the 18th floor, muttered something under her breath, and jogged after her.
