Conquering the Multiverse Starting with the Black Robe
Chapter 43 Arriving at the Invitation
With a cold expression, Xingguang lifted her skirt and swept across the deep sea onto the steps, completely ignoring him as if he were invisible.
She was supposed to go on her first mission since her debut tonight, but Ashley called to tell her that the plan had changed, that there were other arrangements, and that it was Homelander's idea. Otherwise, she would never have wanted to see that disgusting fishman.
Seeing that Starlight ignored her, Deep Sea became somewhat dissatisfied. He had a lot of things to brag about, so he took the initiative to move closer and whispered with a smile, "Why are you hiding from me? There are no paparazzi here, and no one will suspect our relationship."
Tonight is a private meeting. Normally, a newcomer like you wouldn't be qualified to join. This is the inner circle!
You should thank me; it was I who asked Ashley to bring you in. Do me a favor: when the banquet starts, just put on that standard American sweetheart smile, be a pretty vase, and leave the rest to seasoned veterans like me.
Starlight gave him a cold glance and didn't say anything.
"Bitch." Deep Sea was a little annoyed at being ignored and muttered under his breath.
"You bastard, what did you say?" Although Starlight didn't look at Deep Sea, there were only three living people present, so it was impossible not to pay attention to him. He keenly caught his words, turned around suddenly, his eyes flashed with golden light, and his silver teeth were clenched.
Deep Sea glared and subtly glanced at Homelander, who was standing not far away. He was certain that Homelander had heard what was happening here, that he had heard himself being insulted by a newcomer.
Kevin, considering himself a veteran in the seven-man squad, especially with Homelander present, suddenly felt incredibly embarrassed and deliberately raised his voice, "Starlight, what's wrong with you? Grinning like that? Homelander didn't call you here to give anyone a hard time!"
"You know perfectly well why!" Starlight refused to back down, her anger burning fiercely, the golden light in her eyes growing even more intense.
"Just for this?" Deep Sea frowned, staring at the woman in surprise, thinking she was making a fuss over nothing. In America, virginity was worthless, and the sense of familiarity he felt proved that Starlight was definitely not a virgin.
In his eyes, this was nothing at all. The excitement of the crowd was what mattered, and eating a couple of bites of seafood was nothing.
"God, when will this ever end? Is this really that bothering you?"
"I sacrificed a lot when I first joined, okay?"
Shen Hai looked completely indifferent, as if everyone had gone through the same thing. Then he raised his chin, a lewd smile playing on his lips, and said with a smug and arrogant expression, "Besides, didn't you admire me in the first place? Don't act like a victim. This will satisfy your wish."
Starlight, unable to contain her anger any longer, stepped forward and pointed at Deep Sea, saying, "This won't give you even the slightest right to do what you did that night, you pathetic bastard!"
Deep Sea couldn't sit still any longer. He'd had enough of Starlight's tone. He straightened his back and walked step by step in front of her. "You'd better shut up. Don't make things ugly in front of the Homelanders, you bitch."
Starlight retorted, "So what if you don't shut up? Are you going to attack me with a grouper?"
Deepsea's face darkened, and he threatened, "I'll tell everyone you're a hysterical pervert. I'll tell Homelander you're immoral and don't deserve to be here, not one of us."
Starlight sneered, tearing through his disguise. "No, you can't. I've asked around. You're not the second-in-command here at all. You're just a clown in fish skin. Nobody respects you."
Everyone treats you like a joke, especially me, who actually believed your nonsense!
Deep Sea, his true colors exposed, could no longer contain his anger. "You self-righteous little..."
Starlight interrupted his swaying motion first, "If you dare touch me again, I'll roast you like a fish!"
As she spoke, her eyes flickered, and the surrounding lights became unstable, flashing on and off.
Shen Hai narrowed his eyes. He wasn't afraid of the starlight, but he didn't know what harsh words to say to save face.
"That's enough, you two."
A detached voice from the homeland suddenly rang out.
"Yes, sir." Shen Hai's body stiffened, his arrogant aura vanished, and he took a few steps back, turning his head away without saying another word.
Starlight, however, wore a smug expression, concealing the electric glint in his eyes, and glared defiantly at Deep Sea.
Homelander glanced at his watch and said, "Let's all go inside. The guests will be here soon." He looked at Starlight and said, "Darling, whatever your conflict with Deep Sea may be, don't bring your emotions to the dinner table. The guests we're meeting are very important to me."
"I'm sorry, Homelander." Starlight wisely yielded. She didn't have the courage to be presumptuous with the actual leader of the seven-person team; a single word from him could wipe out years of her hard work.
"Don't let me down." Homelander nodded slightly, his expression somewhat complicated, and turned to walk into the hall.
……
At 7:55, inside the Imperial Hall on the top floor.
Homelander stood in front of the observation window, looking down at the New York night view below. His face was expressionless, but he kept tapping the watch cover on his wrist with his fingers. He was thinking, what if Rean stood him up?
Ever since he left Water Tower, he hadn't figured out how to deal with Edgar's situation.
In the best-case scenario, if Rean listens to advice and finishes the meal, he will give him a $5 million black card and let him take his men away from New York to lay low for a while. It would be best if he didn't come back until he finds Ryan.
The homeland's people would not be threatened by a mere mortal; he was a supreme god. Another point was that he did not believe Edgar would dare to harm Ryan for disobeying orders.
What he fears most is that Rean will insist on his own way. In that case, he might have to resort to force to control him and forcibly expel him from America. To be honest, that's the last thing he wants to face.
On one side is his father, and on the other side is his son; both are blood relatives, and he doesn't want to hurt either of them.
Of course, if forced to choose between the two, Homelander thinks Rean is more important. A child can be reborn, but he can't find himself a second biological father, can he?
On the wide and long marble dining table, some pre-dinner desserts had already been served. Shenhai and Xingguang stood on either side of the table, separated by a moat, like guards.
No one dared to take a seat without the other people speaking. Not far away, a musician was playing the violin, the melody soothing and cheerful.
Tapping.
The sound of leather shoes clicking on the ground, steady yet somewhat casual footsteps, came from outside the door. Two waiters at the door slowly pushed open the heavy mahogany door and respectfully welcomed the visitor.
"Good evening, ladies and gentlemen. I hope I'm not late." Rean naturally walked at the front, a casual smile on his face, and said some polite words.
In a hurry, he changed into a black suit that fit him fairly well, unbuttoned one button on his shirt, and casually put his hands in his pockets, looking relaxed.
Behind him followed a serious-looking Butcher and a curious Frenchman, but the former, after shaving his beard and adopting an unapproachable demeanor, looked more like a bodyguard.
"We just arrived too." Homelander turned around abruptly, his gaze immediately falling on the boy at the front of the group. However, the moment he saw Rean, Homelander's eyes narrowed slightly, and a hint of obvious surprise flashed across his face.
"...You've grown taller." Homelander looked at Rean as he approached, his tone tinged with surprise.
