Conquering the Multiverse Starting with the Black Robe
Chapter 28 Parasites of the Black Robe World
Just as they were locked in a fierce battle, a loud bang suddenly came from the basement door, and then a figure appeared—it was Rean, who had arrived late.
"I've only been gone a short while, and you're already so eager to start killing each other?"
On the way back, I could hear a commotion coming from this place in the distance; it couldn't be anything good.
"Compound No. 5, both of them were injected, and both failed... Tsk, another mess for me."
Rean frowned and quickly scanned the scene before him.
French lay against the wall, still breathing.
Not far from him lay two 50% charred claw women; they were definitely not going to survive.
Sherry was pinned against the wall, struggling silently as she tried to push away the table pressing down on her legs.
In the center of the arena, where Butcher and Hughie were, two waves of tentacle monsters and snot monsters were locked in a fierce battle.
The tentacles gripped the slime, the slime wrapped around the tentacles, pulling and tugging at each other, producing hoarse cries and the sound of tearing flesh, a back-and-forth struggle, extremely entangled.
"Take French out of here, leave this to me." Rean narrowed his eyes, clenched his fist, and dark red energy transformed into a large hand that moved the table aside.
"Thank you." After getting free, Shirley leaned against the wall, picked up French, and limped away from the dangerous place.
After he left, Rean leaped forward and gently raised his hands.
Strands of dark red energy surged from his palm, like a blood-red python, climbing towards the entangled mutants to bind them, intending to separate them.
Unfortunately, the tentacles and the slime were already tightly intertwined and could not be separated.
The slime that Hughie's body mutated into seemed to be able to seep into the enemy's body. If Rean had arrived earlier, he might have been able to cut off a part of it and forcibly separate them, but now it would be difficult to do so.
The slime seeped into the tentacles and dissolved, while the tentacles then tore at and devoured the slime. The two had become highly integrated and indistinguishable.
At the microscopic level, the cells have already permeated each other and formed some kind of connection. At this point, they are more like two conjoined beasts fighting for dominance, neither willing to back down.
In the current situation, the only way to end this farce is to take drastic measures and kill one of the hosts.
Rean's brows furrowed even deeper.
"Goodness, this is a tough one... save the mother or the child?"
Butcher was still unconscious, his forehead covered in blood and sweat, and in the center of his chest, the roots of the tentacles were still throbbing rhythmically, like a heartbeat.
Turning his head, Rean was surprised to find that Hughie was still awake.
The sludge from his lower body slowly spread across the ground, its edges even reaching the walls. His upper body, including his chest, remained human-shaped, with only his upper body maintaining its human form.
"Hughie, what's wrong with you?" Rean asked him.
Hughie wanted to answer, but as soon as he opened his mouth, his chin turned into mud and fell off, merging into the slime. He could only stare at Rean, blinking repeatedly.
Rean sighed helplessly. It seemed that the protagonist's halo of these two had dissipated due to the butterfly effect caused by the plot changes. If this dragged on any longer, both of them would be finished.
Although they were insignificant to him and he wouldn't feel heartbroken if they died, at most he would feel a little regret, but he only had this much staff under him, so he would try his best to protect them, at least give it a shot, so as not to say that he, as the boss, hadn't tried his best.
"I've got it!" Rean's mind raced, and a sudden inspiration struck him. Since they couldn't be forcibly separated, why not combine them together? As long as they didn't fight, it would be fine.
As the saying goes, people only don't feel troubled when they are doing bad things.
Once a crooked idea pops up, it's hard to stop.
Rean changed his mind and began to channel life energy.
This triggered a "chemical" reaction that he hadn't anticipated.
Even though he proceeded gradually, tentatively transferring energy little by little.
However, the intensity of his energy itself, after several leaps that can be described as evolution, is now vastly different from what it used to be, far beyond what a mere mutated parasite spawned by ordinary Compound No. 5 could withstand.
With his intervention, from the mutants' perspective, it was as if two forces were fiercely battling when a rather arrogant outsider barged into the fray, like a bucket of cold water poured into a boiling oil pan.
The situation suddenly changed, and the tentacles and slime simultaneously turned their attack on the uninvited guest.
No matter how much they fought each other before, or how much they disliked each other, now that a third party has intervened in the battlefield, their first reaction is to turn their guns outward.
The tentacles suddenly shot out, and the slime surged up everywhere. The two "humanoids" pounced on Rean at the same time, eager to get rid of him.
However, the next second, with a disdainful snort, both of them were suppressed as if by an invisible hand, unable to move on the spot.
These two brutal mutants, derived from Compound 5, were no match for Rean; the difference between them was so great that they were practically on different levels.
With a slight increase in transmission power, he easily controlled it, freezing it in mid-air as if it had been frozen in place.
In the short time that was wasted, Hughie had completely lost his human form and was about to dissipate. His facial features were becoming increasingly blurred, and his wide-open eyes were being swallowed by the slime.
Upon seeing this, Rean immediately channeled a surge of life energy into his remaining brain. As the surging energy flowed in, a core condensation point glowing red formed within his collapsing consciousness, releasing outward fluctuations to resist the collapse and instantly stabilizing the trend of disintegration.
After doing all that, he turned his attention to Butcher.
Butcher remained unconscious. The heart beating inside his chest was no longer a human heart, but rather something like a parasite, pulsating continuously like water being pumped from a well, draining the host's nutrients and endlessly producing those disgusting tentacles.
With a wave of his hand, Rean severed the roots of the tentacles and tore them out in a bunch, throwing them to the ground like trash.
As soon as they landed, these dark chunks of flesh were still wriggling, struggling unwillingly for a few seconds before finally stopping.
New granulation tissue has sprouted from the parasitic part of Butcher's body, and it will likely grow new tentacles soon, until the body's nutrients are completely depleted.
"I can't handle you?" Rean's face turned cold, and he reached out his large hand and crushed Butcher's heart.
Leave a hole in that spot.
Butcher's body suddenly began to convulse involuntarily, and his condition became critical.
Rean remained calm and collected, grabbing Hughie's remaining brain, severing the excess sticky fluid, and forcibly stuffing him in regardless of his wishes.
At the same time, it increases the output of life energy, transforming it into a bandage that wraps around the brain, forming a large heart.
Rean made a series of hand gestures, then conjured up delivery tubes, connected them to the blood vessels, and manipulated them to adjust the frequency, simulating the heartbeat and blood supply.
In other words, Butcher and Hughie's bodies have been modified by Compound V, making them incredibly resilient and able to withstand any abuse. If it were an ordinary person, they would have been killed long ago by doing this.
Rean observed quietly from the side, plugging any problems with his life energy, and if that didn't work, disassembling and readjusting the parts.
If those surgeons saw Rean's brutal treatment, which had no scientific basis whatsoever, they would probably faint on the spot.
However, under this inhuman control and with an inexhaustible supply of life force, Rean miraculously completed the modification surgery.
A day ago, he wouldn't have been able to do any of these things.
After his panel value rose to 67%, his control over his abilities reached an almost abnormal level. Although he had not yet entered the microscopic level, he could already perform delicate operations at the level of surgery.
To be honest, Rean wasn't entirely confident in doing this, and he had never tried using life energy to heal others before.
However, there is no better solution to this situation. Even the top Vought scientists cannot reverse the mutation of the fifth mutant. We can only try anything as a last resort.
……
Butcher opened his eyes groggily, feeling as if the ceiling above him was spinning.
It wasn't actually spinning, but rather because his inner ear's balance system had changed, and his brain hadn't fully adapted.
"Where am I?"
Butcher tried to move.
Every muscle in my body felt like it had been shattered and then reassembled, and waves of dull pain surged from all directions.
He endured the pain and touched his ear, from which a foul-smelling, grayish-black liquid oozed out.
Butcher gasped for breath and tried to sit up, but a strange sensation came from his left hand.
It wasn't excruciating pain, but rather a long-lost tactile sensation, and a feeling that was hard to describe.
It's as if something is attached to that place, possessing its own consciousness and asserting its presence.
"Who? Who's in my head?"
Suddenly, a voice rang in my mind.
It didn't come from the outside world, Butcher felt; it was more like a thought that appeared out of nowhere in his mind.
…This is not an illusion.
Boucher frowned and retorted, "And who the hell are you?"
"...Butcher?"
This time, Butcher heard the voice clearly and his body stiffened instantly.
He couldn't help but lower his head and look at his perfectly intact left hand.
At the end of what should have been a missing limb, a sticky mass with a nose and eyes was gathering and taking shape, until finally, it slowly solidified into a human face.
Hughie's sour face.
His face was also filled with confusion, as well as a hint of resentment and frustration. His features were scrunched up, twisted into a contorted pretzel.
The two exchanged a glance.
"Wozefak?!"
