Transcending Heavens: Starting with the Ancient Tomb Sect
Chapter 004 Jade Maiden Heart Sutra
The ancient tomb passage in the Tomb of the Living Dead truly lived up to its reputation as the place where Wang Chongyang, the founder of the Quanzhen School, originally hid weapons and food. It was a truly important place and a military granary.
The whole place was a maze of twists and turns, divided into various rooms of different sizes, with numerous branching paths. It was impossible to know how many traps and mechanisms Wang Chongyang and Lin Chaoying had secretly hidden within it.
This place is undoubtedly an important location, which explains why the Quanzhen Sect designated it as a forbidden area in the back mountains.
It's not just the Tomb of the Ancient Tomb Sect; the greater reason it's a forbidden area lies in the function of the Tomb of the Living Dead itself and the mechanisms within. The consequences for someone unfamiliar with its layout who mistakenly enters are self-evident.
However, this military food depot was eventually occupied by Lin Chaoying, who then founded the Ancient Tomb Sect, creating a situation where the Ancient Tomb Sect and the Quanzhen Sect coexisted as a sect within a sect, with each containing elements of the other.
After spending half a year in the Ancient Tomb Sect, Yue Que's biggest impression of the Tomb of the Living Dead was the famous treasure that existed in another martial arts world—Yang Gong's Treasure Vault.
Both were military food depots, and both contained hidden traps.
One contained the relic of the Evil Emperor, while the other contained an entire sect.
During the past six months, Yue Que spent most of his free time exploring the entire structure of the ancient tomb, creating a three-dimensional map of the Tomb of the Living Dead in his mind. Like playing a roguelike game, he explored each room one by one, gradually reconstructing the overall structure of the tomb. Aside from some areas that were off-limits, Yue Que had basically explored the rest of the tomb thoroughly.
The secret passage leading directly to the Nine Yin Manual is located in a stone coffin in one of the rooms that are off-limits.
The problem facing Yue Que now is that he cannot determine which one it is for the time being.
What Yue Que was most worried about was that the secret room was located directly in the room where Xiaolongnu was, which made it very difficult to act. If he acted recklessly, he might be beaten to death on the spot by Xiaolongnu.
Yue Que didn't want to become an ant in boiling water because of the cruel innocence of that childlike state.
After all, when Granny Sun died, Little Dragon Girl showed no sadness whatsoever.
Looking back now, it seems that everything that Wang Chongyang, the founder of the Quanzhen School, created for the purpose of resisting the Jin Dynasty has now been put to use on his grand-disciple Yue Que. When he was a junior Taoist priest in the Quanzhen School, Yue Que usually did not only practice his skills to make up for the basics and read Taoist scriptures, but he also did not refrain from searching for traces of the Tomb of the Living Dead in the Quanzhen School's collection of books, or pondering how to find the underwater entrance in the mountain stream.
Unfortunately, these ideas were originally well-conceived, but major problems arose during their implementation.
Even if there were written records, the secret of the Tomb of the Living Dead was not something Yue Que could access.
Moreover, Yue Que didn't think there would be any written record of this; it was more likely passed down orally from the sect leader's lineage.
All that's left is to go out and find the entrance.
However, Yue Que rejected this option, because a disciple of what can be called the number one sect in the world cannot go missing for no reason, especially a disciple like Yue Que who has been a member since childhood.
Aside from those who were sent out, the Quanzhen disciples who normally stayed in Zhongnan Mountain had morning and evening practice sessions, so they didn't have much free time each day.
The Zhongnan Mountains are so vast that finding an underwater entrance via mountain streams wouldn't give Yue Que enough time. Furthermore, the Quanzhen internal energy cultivation method, being a legitimate branch of the Xuanmen school, is inherently a slow and gradual process.
Based on Yue Que's understanding of Zhongnan Mountain over the past ten years, even a third-generation disciple like Zhen Zhibing doesn't have much free time while staying in Zhongnan Mountain.
After careful consideration, Yue Que chose the safest option: to wait for the arrival of Yang Guo, the protagonist of the original novel, and then find an opportunity to defect to the Ancient Tomb Sect together.
Then...then Yue Que realized he'd been scammed.
Originally, he had harbored feelings of admiration for the fairy, but these feelings had long since faded away in the past six months.
Forget about fairies and heroines, forget about love; all Yue Que wants now is to become stronger step by step.
Having worked as hard as if he were preparing for the college entrance examination for twelve years, Yue Que felt that he could now understand the Nine Yin Manual and comprehend its Taoist cryptic language.
"It seems I need to find a way to make my junior brother Yang Guo gain more favor with Xiaolongnü beforehand, so that she can teach him the Jade Maiden Heart Sutra sooner, and then send the two of them to cultivate separately."
"I don't want to wait too long. The six months in this ancient tomb have been more stressful than the more than ten years I spent in Quanzhen."
"I'm almost depressed."
He strolled along, and by the time Yue Que came to his senses, he had already arrived at Xiaolongnu's room. Under her cold gaze, Yue Que carefully took out the fruit that had been placed under the Jade Bed. With the spring water and the Jade Bed, it looked almost like a frozen pear.
Half an hour later.
The special meal that Little Dragon Girl longed for has been prepared.
Meanwhile, junior brother Yang Guo had already finished washing up and was now waiting respectfully with Yue Que to serve 'Aunt' her meal.
One person holds a bowl of honey and waits, while the other prepares food and gently feeds it to the other person.
The actions of the two brothers made Yue Que inwardly laugh: if they were in a five-star hotel, they would both be awarded the title of one of the top ten employees.
As the last bite of fruit entered her mouth, Yang Guo quickly put down the honey jar he was holding and handed a handkerchief he had prepared to his senior brother, Yue Que. He watched as Yue Que gently wiped the sugar stains from the corners of his aunt's mouth. Yang Guo then brought her some water to rinse her mouth.
After all that work, lunch was finally finished.
"How's your martial arts training going? I've taught you both."
Xiaolongnu's gaze swept over Yue Que and Yang Guo one by one, and she suddenly asked.
Over the course of six months, Xiaolongnu fulfilled her responsibilities as a master, teaching him a considerable amount of martial arts. For example, she taught him the introductory techniques of the Ancient Tomb Sect, such as the Soft Net Stance, the Soaring Azure Void, and even the basic internal martial art, the Jade Maiden Skill.
His martial arts skills are progressing well; Xiaolongnu has already taught him the Heavenly Net Formation, the Beauty Fist, and the Jade Maiden Sword Technique.
Whether you've learned it or not is another matter; Little Dragon Girl will show you what a strict teacher is all about.
Because Xiaolongnu herself is a genius, her teaching methods are also genius-level.
Upon hearing Xiaolongnu's words, Yue Que's eyes lit up. He thought to himself that the time had come. Based on his understanding of Xiaolongnu over the past six months, once she said these words, it meant that she would teach him the next martial art.
The Ancient Tomb Sect doesn't have many martial arts skills. They taught so many martial arts skills in half a year using a cramming method, but there aren't many left.
The reason why the two brothers were able to roughly master the previous martial arts in such a short time was because Yang Guo was a martial arts genius, while Yue Que was just used to it.
If nothing unexpected happens, it should be the Jade Maiden Heart Sutra.
"Junior brother is a genius. He has almost mastered the martial arts that Aunt taught him."
Yue Que immediately began praising his junior brother, extolling Yang Guo's virtues and practically implying that Yang Guo would be the perfect successor to the Ancient Tomb Sect.
At the very least, they must be at the level of a closed-door disciple.
Yue Que was implying in his words that he could now teach Yang Guo more advanced martial arts, but as the senior brother, he was somewhat slow-witted and therefore not in a hurry. He could even act as Yang Guo's "Grandma Sun."
"!!!"
Yang Guo's eyes widened upon hearing this, and he thought to himself: Oh no!
Knowing his senior brother as he did, he knew his senior brother was about to come up with another scheme.
If we don't plug it soon, we're probably going to be in trouble again.
In a flash, Yang Guo disregarded all etiquette and interrupted Yue Que, beginning to boast about his senior brother: "Aunt, senior brother's talent surpasses mine. Moreover, my time in martial arts training is too short to compare with senior brother's twelve years of arduous cultivation in the Quanzhen Sect."
"Auntie can teach my senior brother first, and then teach me after he's familiar with the subject."
Yang Guo's expression conveyed the deep affection between the two brothers, and after speaking, he gave Yue Que a look that said "no need to thank me."
Senior brother, you're welcome.
We're all brothers!
"Hmm~~~"
As she pondered, Xiaolongnu's cool gaze swept back and forth between Yue Que and Yang Guo, and she thought to herself, "So you two are both geniuses then."
"Ugh~~~"
After a moment's hesitation, Xiaolongnu made her decision. A genius has a genius's teaching method, so she said, "Next, I will teach you the most superior mental cultivation technique of the Ancient Tomb Sect, called the Jade Maiden Heart Sutra..."
Yang Guo, though unaware of the true nature of the Jade Maiden Heart Sutra, listened intently; while Yue Que, upon hearing this, was completely stunned, his mind reeling as if struck by a thunderous drum.
Yue Que: Huh?
Jade Maiden Heart Sutra...
Can this thing be practiced by one woman and two men together?
PS: In the original novel, it only took Yang Guo two years from entering the Ancient Tomb to learn martial arts to escaping from the Ancient Tomb.
