What kind of divination am I doing?
Chapter 14:
Lu Qiao let out a long sigh of relief: "Before I came here, Boss Shen repeatedly told me that this wouldn't have been possible without everyone's help. You are all Boss Shen's benefactors!"
"You're honest, I almost shot you!" The leader put down the disposable chopsticks he had just used and began to eat heartily with the new chopsticks that were his own.
Everyone was obviously hungry, especially the fifth person who was left to be buried. He ate two boxes by himself, and finished all six bento boxes.
After finishing his meal, the eldest brother used a knife to split the chopsticks he had thrown away into small pieces. Picking his teeth with one of the broken pieces, he asked, "Old Shen, is there anything you need to say?"
"Oh, I was saying I'd take you all out to hide. I've rented an apartment. Let's go there now. I'll call a few girls, and I'll also find a surgeon to take a look at you," Lu Qiao replied thoughtfully.
Everyone laughed, and they all burst out laughing when they heard that there was a girl involved.
The leader waved his hand: "No need for the girl! We'll find our way back once we're safe. Take us to your apartment and let Lao Shen contact us as soon as he's safe."
"I understand, but it's probably unlikely that Boss Shen will come looking for you anytime soon!" Lu Qiao explained.
"What does 'impossible' mean?" The leader was clearly getting angry.
Lu Qiao smiled ingratiatingly, "Such a large sum of insurance money will definitely be subject to 24-hour surveillance. Boss Shen won't do anything too risky!"
The eldest brother thought for a few seconds, nodded in understanding, and pointed to the suitcase Lu Qiao had brought: "Alright, we won't make things difficult for Lao Shen. I know what you mean by bringing this suitcase; Lao Shen wants us to put the gold in your suitcase, right?"
Lu Qiao nodded again: "That's what I mean."
"That's impossible for me too! When you get back, tell Lao Shen, 'Dream on.' Tomorrow's news will report how much gold was lost. We need it shipped over to us in US dollars in this suitcase at half the market price that day! We need old bills, not consecutive serial numbers! We also need a Kip truck with a full tank of gas, a rental company will do. We'll let Lao Shen know where we parked it once it's safe." The boss stated his demands.
I must say, those guys were pretty shrewd.
Lu Qiao nodded and quickly flattered, "As expected of someone who does great things, you can think of things in such detail. I've really learned a lot. Let's go then, the car is waiting outside. And your leg needs treatment as soon as possible."
The leader nodded: "Lead the way. You've had a tough time too. We're not the kind of people who do things recklessly. When the money arrives, I'll give you 10,000 as a reward for your hard work."
The boss's mindset was naturally a combination of kindness and severity. In the boss's eyes, this was Lao Shen's man, and he had already scared him so much. He figured they would be getting along for a long time afterward, so he still had to give him some benefits.
"Really? Thank you so much." Lu Qiao said, carrying his luggage and walking in front.
Five people, two of whom were holding guns and following behind Luqiao, even in this situation, there was always one person with a gun pointed at Luqiao.
The other two supported the eldest brother and followed behind him, walking slowly forward.
Everyone except Luqiao walked very slowly because they were all carrying a large black single-piece bag, which naturally contained the stolen gold.
Even with the eldest brother limping like that, he didn't let anyone else carry his share.
Lu Qiao walked towards the gate, and seeing the gate in front of him, he knew that things had been accomplished.
Because the door in front of us is different from the one we came in through. The lock has changed; it's a retro lock.
The hole in the door lock was now perfectly fitted with the bronze key from Luqiao.
Lu Qiao stepped forward, inserted the key from his pocket, and turned it to open the door.
This time, the door opened inwards, and the moment Lu Qiao opened it, he realized that he had pierced that membrane.
Previously, when they were in the cellar, Luqiao couldn't get in without the key.
There is a membrane that prevents things from getting inside.
But when Lu Qiao stood on the boundary with the key, the membrane disappeared.
Luqiao then remembered what the black cat had said: to be the first to enter!
Once Luqiao realized what was happening, he understood that this was a permission issue, and he could activate it by taking the key and entering.
Of course, Luqiao also discovered another problem: it's no longer cold.
Lu Qiao subconsciously looked towards the window, but it was pitch black.
It must have been after the black cat made the request that the group of aliens cleaned up the scene, covering and sealing off the windows and drafty areas with animal hides.
Even so, it's still cold, but there's no chill at all.
Lu Qiao looked up in confusion. Inside the tavern, three lizardmen were crawling upside down on the wall.
These lizards look more like chameleons, or more accurately, Rango from the Disney animation.
The three lizardmen are firmly anchored by suction cups on their feet, with their hands outstretched and mouths open, blowing air.
There was a faint, almost invisible twist at the junction of their hands; it was a kind of heat, probably some kind of fire ability. The three lizardmen transformed into human heaters, ensuring that the temperature at the exit would not arouse suspicion upon entry.
One of the three lizardmen stuck out its long tongue and flicked it around. The tongue swung clockwise and counterclockwise at different angles and speeds.
As soon as Lu Qiao looked, words appeared in his mind; these were the language of the lizards.
"Don't worry, sir, we're professionals in assassination!"
The next second, Luqiao felt like his eyes were playing tricks on him.
After speaking, the lizardman's originally green skin gradually turned gray and then black, disappearing into the night.
Lu Qiao then realized that the lizardman had deliberately let him see it.
That's why they have to be the first to go in; the first one in is the big spender, and everyone else is just a target.
These lizardmen can completely blend into their environment; it's not invisibility, but rather mimicry, and that's enough. The success rate of such an ability in assassination within the human world is self-evident.
At least Lu Qiao wouldn't have noticed the three lizardmen unless he looked closely. The two men at the front of the five bandits walked towards Lu Qiao and noticed something strange when they reached the door.
One of them spoke up: "Why are the buildings in Chinatown in a Scandinavian style?"
Lu Qiao immediately replied, "This isn't Chinatown anymore! This building is on Harrison Avenue. The jewelry store was just robbed, and you all disappeared. There are detectives patrolling both ends of Chinatown. The exit of the tunnel couldn't be located inside Chinatown, so when Boss Shen was choosing the location for the tunnel, he deliberately avoided it."
Lu Qiao's explanation naturally convinced the group.
The two had already reached the side of the road and entered the hotel.
The eldest brother, supported by the other two, stopped at the doorway.
The eldest brother looked around the room, then looked at the sky outside.
It was only 5 p.m., and the sky had just begun to darken.
The sky was hazy, not completely black.
But the room was pitch black, which made the eldest brother suspicious: "In here? Why is it so dark in this house?"
Lu Qiao immediately explained, "This is a nightclub. They probably put up the window covers specifically for the atmosphere. It's opening soon and it's a Viking-themed island club. Foreigners like this kind of vibe."
Lu Qiao naturally spouted nonsense; now all he needed to do was lure the last three people in.
"It's a bit cold in here!" The two who entered were standing further inside when they suddenly felt a chill and kept rubbing their shoulders with their hands.
"Cold? What's going on?" The leader became alert.
"I don't know, boss. I feel like it's winter in here!" The two realized something and wanted to go outside.
The two had just taken a step forward when they felt themselves bump into something.
Upon closer inspection, the area where I had just bumped into showed a slight spatial distortion and a slightly mixed color.
That wasn't some kind of spatial distortion at all; it was just that the lizardman's skin had been creased from the impact.
The distortion lasted for a second or two before disappearing into the night.
The thugs who entered knew there was something inside and wanted to speak.
But the lizardmen were fast; in the blink of an eye, they had subdued the bandit and circled around to attack from behind.
The two thugs in the tavern were about to tell their boss what they had seen, just a moment ago.
Before he could even utter a sound, he collapsed to the side and fell motionless.
Before it collapsed, Luqiao heard two crisp sounds.
That was the sound of a neck being snapped. Lu Qiao could only imagine a scene from this situation: when he was eating shrimp, he was breaking off the shrimp heads at about the same speed.
But the opponent was a person against a person, about the same height, and it was only one strike, which is terrifying.
From the boss's perspective, the lizardmen are not visible.
All that could be seen was something flashing, and then his companion stopped moving.
The leader didn't know what had happened, but he understood that it was definitely related to Luqiao. He raised his gun, ready to fire.
But when the eldest brother looked at Luqiao, he saw a nine-headed, elf-eared girl who draped a robe over Luqiao.
In the blink of an eye, one of the two lizardmen bowed forward and a long red tongue shot out from his mouth.
His tongue licked the pistol, then wrapped around the boss's arm.
By the time the eldest brother realized what was happening, it was too late to escape.
The two men, who were supporting their leader a second ago, both took a step back the next second.
Naturally, they let their leader be dragged away, expressing disbelief at the situation before them.
The leader was pulled to the ground. He was about to shout for help, but before he could even utter a sound, he was pulled to the ground.
He only noticed that the tongue binding his arms was loosening and tightening, then loosening and tightening again. It moved slowly, from his forearm to his upper arm, from his upper arm to his shoulder, and the next second the tongue was poised to wrap around the boss's neck, trapping him tightly.
Of the five thugs, the two who entered had their necks broken, and the leader was choked.
The remaining two regained their senses. One raised his rifle to shoot, while the other drew his dagger and stepped forward to help their leader escape.
But how could they possibly give the two of them that chance? They had already been targeted long ago.
He raised his rifle, ready to pull the trigger, but no matter how hard he pulled, not a single bullet was fired.
The robber felt a sharp pain in his trigger finger, and only after looking down did he realize...
My index finger is gone; the cut is a neat, flat surface, and blood is flowing out.
The thug, realizing what was happening, tried to switch fingers to pull the trigger.
The pain intensified the next second as my entire palm was sliced open.
Only then did the bandits realize that it was a black dagger, reflecting a glimmer of light in the moonlight.
And then he lightly waved the dagger in front of his head.
The man groped his neck and found the cut on it.
The next second, the man collapsed limply, losing his life.
Another man who was supposed to help untie the boss ran to save him but fell flat on his face the next second.
Knowing what had tripped him, the man who had fallen to the ground began wildly slashing at the air with a knife.
But he couldn't reach anything, so the man turned around and climbed forward, touched the boss's clothes, and pulled himself up by the clothes.
Looking at the tongue that was entangled around the boss, he thought about cutting it off to save the boss.
The man sensed something was wrong; the tongue wrapped around the boss's arm looked very strange.
It looked more like the boss himself sticking out a long tongue, because the final part of this tongue was actually his mouth!
At that moment, the leader turned his head and it was clearly a lizardman's face!
The man stared wide-eyed, bewildered. Only when he looked ahead did he realize that his boss was still being dragged along.
This was a lizardman who, while the man was waving his arms through the air, lay down a few steps in front of him, stuck out his long tongue, and pretended to be the boss who was about to be dragged away.
The man, realizing what was happening, had a black dagger plunged into his neck the next second.
All of this, from beginning to end, took no more than thirty seconds, during which not a single shot was fired by humans.
No one could even utter a sound before the battle ended.
Lu Qiao, covered by a robe, looked at everything before him.
A clear female voice came from behind: "Resolved! Are you satisfied?"
"Uh..." This was the first time Lu Qiao had witnessed such a massacre up close, and his mind went blank.
Three lizardmen could easily take down five armed humans.
These lizardmen can breathe fire, mimic the darkness, mimic humans, stick out their tongues from a distance, and possess immense strength.
This is the alien race. Were humans once as powerful as these monsters?
So how many of humanity's abilities have been sealed away to make us so weak?
Two lizards carried the two corpses back to the Outland tavern, put them down, and stood still.
The elven bartender possessed the body and opened one after another large single-shoulder backpacks, which were filled with gold items, and even investment gold bars.
The elven bartender confirmed it was correct, waved her hand, and the three exchanged glances without saying anything. They then took out their keys, transformed into humans, and went home.
Two mushroom-like figures suddenly emerged from the tavern room.
The mushroom people have a fierce appearance, with huge faces sunken into the entire mushroom. Their bodies are very soft, but this does not hinder their movement.
The two mushrooms walked to the spot where the battle had taken place, then lay down on the ground and began to roll around in all directions.
The areas on the ground that they trampled became clean, but then gained another layer of dust.
The dust covered the blood, and within seconds, nothing was left at the scene.
The two mushroom-like figures returned to the tavern and, instead of leaving, dragged the corpse to the tavern's kitchen.
"I'll handle the body. For the five people who helped tonight, the three lizard brothers will each receive 10,000, and Mushroom Boy, who's one of my men, will just give me a symbolic 1,000. I'll write down the bill first, and transfer it to Aini's account after the gold is sold," the bartender explained.
Thirty-one thousand, five lives lost.
Lu Qiao snapped out of his daze, took off his robe, and handed it to the elf.
Then Luqiao grabbed his suitcase, putting all his strength into it, and struggled to move forward. His legs went weak with fear!
