Mobile City Travel Guide
Chapter 67 War in the Mountains
A new day begins, morning.
Spark, cockpit.
Standing in front of the city radio station, Li Xin frowned. The signal waveform on the screen was as flat as stagnant water, without any undulations or fluctuations.
Since arriving in the magical world, the Starfire has not received any messages from any mobile city, and its own messages have been ignored.
The lack of information made him genuinely uneasy. He couldn't figure out the state of human civilization or the specific major developments in the magical world.
But if you think about it carefully, the thousands of mobile cities that humans live in must be scattered like chess pieces across every corner of the world.
He sighed, turned off the city radio station, and turned to look out the window.
The Starfire is currently traveling slowly along the Great Stone Dam, with dwarf troops guarding key passes and passages along the way.
The dwarves were all short, stocky, and sturdy, clad in heavy chainmail or plate armor, and wielding weapons such as battle axes, warhammers, and spears.
They even have organized mobile units.
One type is the goat rider. Goats are as sturdy as calves, with hooves as hard as chisels, and can climb and leap on near-vertical rock faces as if walking on flat ground.
One type is the Griffin Rider. These are flying creatures that combine the distinctive features of eagles and lions. The dwarves riding them are clad in leather armor that is lighter than that of infantry, and carry short-handled warhammers and incendiary canisters slung across their backs.
As Li Xin was intently observing, a sound suddenly came from above.
Then the dwarf officer from before flew over on a griffin.
"You need to hurry," he said anxiously after landing.
"What's wrong?" Li Xin asked.
"Latest battle report: our forward defenses have been completely breached by Angmar's army!" he said. "The enemy's offensive far exceeded our expectations; now half of the kingdom has fallen..."
No sooner had he finished speaking than a rapid bugle call suddenly sounded from afar.
On the horizon, countless black dots surged like a tide along the mountain ridge!
The orc cavalry were the first to lead the charge.
They rode dire wolves, as large as calves, clad in heavy iron armor, their fangs bared, their eyes gleaming with a menacing green light. The orc riders, on the other hand, were heavily armored and wielded intimidating weapons such as heavy battle axes, flails, and spiked clubs.
Amidst fierce howls, the dire wolf steadily carried the orc, striding across the mountains as if walking on flat ground.
Following closely behind were hundreds of giant spiders, each reaching a hundred meters in size. According to Peter, who was standing nearby, these were Highland Spiders, a type of corrupt and evil creature unique to the highlands of the magical world.
Angmar's army used it as a mobile war machine, building simple yet sturdy fortresses and artillery platforms on its back, which were densely packed with orc infantry.
Bat riders whizzed through the sky. The bats were enormous, with wingspans of five or six meters. The orc riders, clad in light leather armor, lay on the bats' backs, one hand holding the reins and the other a spear or javelin.
The enemy numbered as many as thirty or forty thousand. They swept down the hillside, destroying vegetation and raising clouds of dust in their wake.
Faced with such a massive enemy force, the dwarven garrison quickly responded.
At various passes and passages, dwarf soldiers assembled in square formations of a hundred men each. The dwarves in the front row formed an impenetrable shield wall, while their comrades behind them poked their spears out from the gaps in the shield wall, and the last dwarves set up their short crossbows.
Archers and cannons were already in position on the towers and walls of the fortress.
Amidst the mountains, the rapidly assembled goat cavalry were swiftly moving through the landscape. The goats lowered their heads and galloped across the slopes and cliffs, while the dwarf riders gripped the reins tightly in one hand and raised their weapons high in the other, roaring with all their might.
In the sky, griffin riders roared past. The griffins flapped their wings, creating powerful gusts of air, and the dwarf riders lay on the backs of the griffins, holding the reins in one hand and a flaming flask or a warhammer in the other.
Li Xin's expression gradually became serious.
The dwarves' battle was undoubtedly going to be difficult, given that the orcs had a natural advantage in strength and size, and outnumbered them by three or four times.
But that wasn't something he needed to worry about. What the Starfire had to do was evacuate as quickly as possible to avoid being affected by this war. After all, the casket containing Angmar's soul was still here, and the Demon King's old forces were frantically searching for it.
If the Starfire is sunk in this battle, or if the Life-Protecting Box is intercepted, then some really interesting things will happen in this world.
That being said, the Starfire is not immune to the danger. It is currently in the center of the battlefield where the two sides are fighting, and due to the mountainous terrain, it will be difficult to evacuate in the short term.
Soon, war broke out in full force.
Both sides' artillery, archers, and accompanying wizards quickly unleashed their full firepower. Their arrows and cannons were all enchanted, and when they hit, they didn't create ordinary explosions, but rather massive bursts of flame, frost, lightning, and shadow.
The accompanying wizarding corps was like a spell bomber, recklessly unleashing all kinds of spells. The spells of both sides erupted, blossomed, and collided everywhere on the battlefield, creating visible shockwaves that overturned, tore apart, and crushed everything around them.
The entire battlefield was torn to pieces in an instant; mountains collapsed, the earth shook, and it resembled a scene from hell.
Even the hastily evacuated Starfire was affected multiple times, with the city shaking violently and people on the deck swaying from side to side.
Li Xin gripped the railing tightly, his forehead covered in sweat.
He finally understood why the whole world had been destroyed by magic.
At this moment, the front-line troops of both sides had engaged in full-scale battle. The shield wall formed by the dwarven infantry clashed head-on with the heavily armored orc infantry. The sounds of battle axes chopping, spears piercing flesh, and soldiers' roars and screams blended into a deafening noise.
Between the mountains, the mountain cavalry of both sides clashed like two torrents.
The dwarven goat riders charged like arrows released from a bow, relentlessly crashing into the orcish wolf rider ranks. Goat horns pierced the flanks of dire wolves, and the dwarven riders wielded battleaxes and flails, hacking and slashing through the orcish ranks, each strike splattering a spray of blood.
The latter was equally determined. The dire wolf opened its gaping maw and bit the goat's neck and limbs, dragging it to the ground. The orc rider brandished its heavy weapon and knocked the dwarf rider off his horse with a single blow.
In the sky, the griffin riders and bat riders engaged in a fierce battle.
The griffin's talons and beak tore at the bat's wing membranes, while the bat countered with its fangs and claws, biting the griffin's neck. Riders hurled javelins and incendiary canisters at each other in the air, and occasionally someone would be shot and fall, crashing into the melee below, horse and rider, creating a cloud of blood.
