Chapter 41: Confronting the Sky-Wandering Civilization Fleet!
That was a Federation fleet.
Destroyers, cruisers, frigates, supply ships, and even battleships... all kinds of ships in the fleet lined up in formation and advanced in a mighty procession.
As ships that sail in the sky, they are about the same size as modern warships, but their construction is far less precise and advanced, and they are more like steam warships.
Looking at the ship, its hull was made entirely of thick iron plates riveted together, with rows of rivets and brass pipes covering its outer shell. At the stern was a huge three-bladed propeller. The deck was equipped with a series of massive main and secondary guns, twin machine gun turrets, bomb-laying devices mounted on both sides of the ship, and parallel missile launchers.
Moreover, rows of large torpedoes were mounted on the bottom of the ship.
At this very moment, the Federation fleet is advancing menacingly.
A few beads of sweat trickled down Li Xin's forehead.
The situation was self-evident; the other side was clearly targeting them.
At this moment, the crew of the Spark were urgently getting into position, while Zhang Yue hurriedly rushed back to the Iron Mole.
The Federation fleet opened fire as soon as the two mobile cities were activated and lifted.
On the deck, the main and secondary guns roared first, spewing orange-red flames from their muzzles; the twin machine gun turrets followed closely behind, unleashing a series of whistling bullets; the bomb launchers banged as they launched bombs one after another.
The Starfire and Iron Mole were instantly engulfed in a barrage of artillery fire. A hail of bullets whistled in, and shells and bombs exploded in all directions, creating clusters of black and red fireballs.
Rustwind Town, located behind the town, was also unfortunately affected. Houses were destroyed, tin roofs were ripped off, brick walls were blasted with large holes, and shards of glass and wood flew everywhere. Huge craters were also blasted into the streets. The townspeople cried out in panic and confusion as they fled, resulting in heavy casualties.
"Damn it!" Li Xin gritted his teeth.
He had a vague sense of anticipation for the Federation's encirclement and suppression. But what he hadn't expected was that they didn't even care about their own people—who had practically risked their lives to complete the assigned high-altitude pioneering mission.
This time, the skeletal coating on the Starfire's city armor once again played a crucial role, withstanding the fierce firepower. The Iron Mole, on the other hand, held on thanks to its thick city armor.
"Fight back!" Li Xin roared.
As all the Tiger Crouching Cannons on the Starfire fired simultaneously, the air shockwaves from the explosions overlapped and merged into an incredibly powerful shockwave that instantly swept across the entire Federation fleet, scattering their originally tightly arranged formation into chaos.
Next came the city machine gun, which had already been aimed. As its six barrels began to rotate at high speed, the muzzle immediately spewed out whistling tongues of fire, and a rain of bullets swept over a forward-destroying destroyer in an instant.
The armor of the steam warship was immediately torn open, rivets flew off, pipes shattered, and pieces of sheet metal were ripped apart like paper. As the barrage swept across, all kinds of weapons and structures on its bridge were destroyed and collapsed, and finally the entire ship exploded with a deafening roar.
The Iron Mole, on the other hand, was even more ferocious. This defensive city, relying on its powerful mobility and defense, charged forward despite the enemy's gunfire and rammed headlong into a cruiser!
With a dull thud, the steam warship was instantly smashed and collapsed, with more than half of it crumbling! Its side armor was torn apart like paper, rivets flew off, iron plates were dented, and countless cracks spread outwards from the point of impact!
That wasn't all. Having landed its first blow, the Iron Mole accelerated to full speed, using itself as a wedge to tear the broken cruiser in two. This mobile city, billowing with scrap metal and steam, charged straight at the second enemy warship at close range.
Caught off guard by this turn of events, the latter hastily unleashed a barrage of fire, but the bullets and shells only produced a series of sparks and pitifully small dents on the Iron Mole.
The Federation commander, shouting himself hoarse, managed to steer the warship away from the Iron Mole's ramming. But as they passed each other, he and his men suddenly heard a violent roar.
The next second, the giant hydraulic hammer on the deck of the Iron Mole slammed down!
The entire warship was violently shaken by the blast, creating a huge crater on the deck. All kinds of firearms were instantly thrown from their original positions, and most people were thrown off the deck by the sudden and enormous impact before they could even grab their grip.
As for the survivors who managed to grab onto the railing and avoid being thrown off, their fate was no better. The Iron Mole then activated its massive chainsaw blades. As this colossal weapon bit into the ship's hull, the rapidly spinning teeth sliced into the hull, severing the keel and splitting it in two!
"That's amazing!" Li Xin exclaimed in amazement.
As soon as he finished speaking, the Starfire, to which he was on board, immediately made an emergency maneuver to avoid the enemy attack—because at that moment the remaining enemy ships launched a salvo of torpedoes.
These are likely torpedoes specifically designed for large targets such as warships or mobile cities. They are enormous in size, powered by powerful steam propulsion, and extremely fast.
The Starfire darted left and right, narrowly avoiding torpedo after torpedo.
A wave of unrest, a wave of up again.
The enemy probably doesn't have large aircraft carriers, but most of their warships have fighter jets deployed on their decks. At this moment, fighter jets are taking off urgently from the decks. Their appearance is quite similar to that of Russian MiG fighter jets, with a robust and short fuselage, forcibly pieced together from thick sheet metal, and their burly cylinders are directly exposed.
Although crude, these steam-powered fighters were incredibly powerful. Unlike aircraft carriers, they didn't need a runway for takeoff; they would simply glide on the deck for a few seconds before taking off. At the moment of departure, they would briefly dip in mid-air before unleashing a powerful thrust and hurtling straight in.
Moreover, the steam warships launched missiles, which were more sophisticated and advanced than the poorly made and inaccurate missiles of the air pirates. They could even automatically track targets.
Faced with the menacing onslaught of fighter jets and missiles, Li Xin immediately looked at the newly evolved missile launcher.
"It's up to you guys now!"
As he pressed the start button, one after another, the floating cannons roared into the air, drawing graceful arcs in mid-air and streaking away with thin blue trails.
They soared and tumbled through the air, turning and stopping abruptly, like a swarm of agile bees, each one locking onto its target.
Some of the drones opened their heads to reveal their muzzles, accurately locking onto and destroying missiles. Other drones accelerated their dives, directly impacting and penetrating the aircraft's cylinders, causing it to suddenly lose balance and crash.
The Federation fleet was completely stunned. They had thought that a single salvo would be enough to take down the two mobile cities, but they never expected them to unleash such astonishing firepower.
With the help of the floating cannons, the Starfire successfully intercepted the vast majority of the incoming missiles. Not only that, the steam fighters that were originally preparing for a full-speed attack were also thrown into chaos, and several were destroyed.
While rampaging through the enemy lines, the Iron Mole also fired a series of whistles at it.
This means breaking out separately.
Li Xin nodded slightly; in fact, he had the same idea.
Although they initially caught the enemy off guard, the enemy had far too many warships, and they couldn't withstand a direct confrontation. It was better to break through before the enemy could react.
At this moment, the Tiger Crouching Cannons were also ready again. Under its new salvo, the enemy's hard-won formation was thrown into chaos once more, while the Starfire's floating cannons either harassed the steam fighters or attacked and destroyed the warship's propellers, hindering their pursuit.
Ultimately, the two mobile cities successfully broke through the encirclement separately.
