Full-Time Magister: Rebirth of Mo Fan as the Primordial Evil Phoenix
Chapter 25: Casually Killed 3 Grey-Robed Priests
"You bunch of beasts! Fire Blast!"
The dark red fireball slammed into the gray-robed priest's face, and exploded with a bang the next second!
The flames, carrying flesh, blood, and rags, surged out. The gray-clad man didn't even have time to finish his scream before he was blasted away, his back slamming heavily against the wall. The violent impact did not extinguish the flames; instead, they burned even more fiercely!
Before the two people next to him could react, Mo Fan had already rushed forward.
"Weren't you shouting quite loudly just now?"
Electric arcs crackled wildly in his palm, and the air was filled with the grating sound of electricity.
"Thunder Mark - Python Mark!"
boom!
A dark bolt of lightning struck down, pinning the gray-clad man charging ahead to the ground. The man's body convulsed, and he only managed to utter half a scream before collapsing limply.
The last gray-robed priest's expression changed, and he turned to try and disappear into the depths of the passage.
"Still trying to run?"
Mo Fan roared, and sparks flew from his palm.
boom!
The second shot fired straight at his back.
The gray-clad man was blasted to the ground, his robes burned through, his back a bloody mess, yet he still struggled to crawl forward. Mo Fan caught up in a few steps, his size 42 sneakers pressing down on the man's neck, a burst of lightning emanating from his palm.
Click.
The man's body suddenly tensed and he became completely still.
The passageway fell silent.
Only the crackling of the flames and the faint sound of flowing sewage remained.
Mo Fan stood still, his chest rising and falling slowly, but the fire in his eyes did not dissipate in the slightest.
Damn it! I really want to dig up and kill all those bastards down there right now!
But now is not the time to vent. Let's give the message to Tang Yue first, and settle this score later.
He crouched down and patted the gray-clad man with the hoarse voice a couple of times, but didn't find anything of much use, only a small packet of white powder that hadn't completely lost its smell, and a piece of cloth stained with blood.
Mo Fan glanced at it, stuffed it into his pocket, and turned to leave.
As he climbed out of the drain, a gust of wind rushed in, carrying the chill of the night and blowing away the fishy smell from Mo Fan's body.
The alleys in the old town are quiet, with the occasional bark of a dog in the distance. Further away, you can faintly hear some commotion from the other side of the city, intermittent and not loud, but it makes you feel heavy-hearted.
Without delay, Mo Fan took out his phone and dialed Tang Yue's number.
The phone rang twice before it was answered.
"Mo Fan?" Tang Yue's voice was low. "Looking for me so late, is something wrong?"
"Yes, and it's quite large." Mo Fan leaned against the wall, glancing towards the alley entrance. "Is anyone next to you?"
There was a moment of silence on the other end.
"explain."
Mo Fan glanced at the other alleyway again: "The old town area is completely rotten underneath."
There was no interruption on the other end of the phone.
Mo Fan continued, "I just walked around the sewers, and that place isn't just hiding a few demons; they're paving the way for them."
There was a few seconds of silence on Tang Yue's end, then her voice lowered: "Are you sure?"
"I just came out from down there, and I also killed three gray-robed priests on the way," Mo Fan said.
This time, Tang Yue did not respond immediately.
The wind blew in from the alley entrance, rustling against the walls with a soft rustling sound.
Tang Yue's breathing was very light, but it clearly paused for a beat.
Are you alright?
"I'm not a little kid," Mo Fan replied.
"Mo Fan (艹皿艹)!"
Mo Fan didn't reply to her. Looking at the dark night in the distance, his Adam's apple bobbed slightly.
"Their commotion is definitely not just about getting more people to die in the city."
"I think they're probably trying to force you to activate the Earthly Holy Spring. Either it will be used ahead of schedule, or they'll force it to hide in a different place."
There was a sudden silence on the other end of the phone.
This time, the silence was even longer than before.
Mo Fan didn't urge him.
After a moment, Tang Yue's voice came again, no longer as casual as before: "Where did you hear that from?"
"Half-listening, half-guessing." Mo Fan smirked. "In a chaotic city like this, how could the Holy Spring possibly remain hidden?"
Tang Yue seemed to have taken a few steps; the sound of her heels hitting the ground was very soft.
"Mo Fan," she said, her tone completely changed, "Leave the old town immediately and don't go back into the drainage system."
"I know what I'm doing." Mo Fan raised his hand and rubbed his temples. "Besides, your reaction already says it all, so why pretend?"
You already know enough.
"Um."
There was another moment of silence on the other end of the phone.
"Mo Fan," Tang Yue said in a low voice, "this is not something you should be involved in."
"It's not a matter of whether I want to touch it or not, it's that they've already opened up the city," Mo Fan said. "If I hadn't followed their lead tonight, I really wouldn't have known that it was already rotten like this down there."
Tang Yue didn't retort, but instead asked, "What exactly did you see?"
Mo Fan replied, half-jokingly, "There was a drainage outlet in the old city. Along the way, there were blood offerings and demon-attracting powder. There were also man-made marks at the fork in the road below. I followed the road and bumped into three gray-robed priests, whom I killed on the spot. I didn't pursue the rest any further."
He didn't tell the whole story.
The second winged wolf wasn't mentioned, nor was the explanation given by those people made so clearly.
It's better to let Tang Yue handle some things herself than to explain them too clearly.
A soft sigh came from the other end of the phone, as if someone was suppressing their emotions.
"Has the body been disposed of?" Tang Yue asked.
"No," Mo Fan said. "He's lying down there. If you don't trust me, you can send someone to check yourself."
"It's not that I don't trust them," Tang Yue paused, "it's that this matter has gone beyond what an ordinary gray-robed priest could do."
Upon hearing this, Mo Fan understood the situation.
Tang Yue indeed knew more.
"What about your side?" he asked directly. "Has it already been reported?"
This time, Tang Yue didn't go around in circles.
"It's been reported."
"Since daytime, the demons inside and outside the city have been behaving strangely, and there are also abnormalities at the main spring. The higher-ups have been increasing manpower to protect the location of the main spring, and if necessary... they will prepare to relocate."
Mo Fan's eyelids twitched slightly.
coming.
"Are you really going to switch?" he asked.
"It's not decided yet." Tang Yue's voice was steady, but you could hear the tension in it. "But if the situation continues to deteriorate, it won't be a question of whether we want to transfer or not."
Mo Fan remained silent.
Tang Yue continued, "The main spring cannot be exposed for long. It naturally attracts things, and its current state is unstable. When it is finally necessary to move, the commotion will be greater than usual. At that time, it will not only be slave-level and warrior-level beings that are eyeing it."
Mo Fan whispered, "The commanders will also come down."
"Yes." Tang Yue did not deny it.
A night breeze swept through the alleyway, causing the power lines to sway slightly.
Mo Fan looked up at the sky.
The clouds were thick, and the moonlight could barely penetrate, making the whole city seem as if it were being weighed down by something.
"So what you're most afraid of right now isn't those who have already entered the city," Mo Fan said slowly, "but that once the main spring is forced out, something even bigger will come smelling the scent."
"I told you, you know enough," Tang Yue said coldly. "Stop here."
Mo Fan scoffed, "Stop? Those guys down there are practically paving the way to your feet. You expect me to pretend I didn't see them?"
"Mo Fan."
What you did tonight was already very dangerous.
"This isn't the first time I've been targeted by these bastards."
"You're not in a position to confront them head-on!" Tang Yue paused, then softened her tone as if realizing her words were a bit harsh. "At least, not now."
Mo Fan was silent for two seconds, then suddenly asked, "What exactly is wrong with the Earthly Sacred Spring?"
There was no immediate response on the other end of the phone.
The alley was very quiet.
After a long while, Tang Yue finally spoke: "It's not that there's a problem, it's that it was always changing."
"What do you mean?"
"The sacred spring in Bo City has been unstable for years," she said slowly, as if carefully considering what to say and what not to say. "It used to be just weak, but recently it has started to become chaotic. There are leaks in the branches, and there are unusual movements underground. The demons outside the city are stirring much earlier than in previous years, and none of these have come alone."
Mo Fan cursed inwardly.
They did indeed form a line.
"So tonight, or tomorrow night," he whispered, "if the main spring is forced to move, Bo City will truly be in its most dangerous moment."
Tang Yue remained silent for a while, which was taken as tacit agreement.
Then she said, "You are not allowed to say this to a second person."
"I'm not stupid."
"Sometimes you're more reckless than anyone else," Tang Yue replied, her tone unusually fiery. "Listen, starting tonight, stop investigating underground networks and stop touching anyone from the Black Vatican. The rest is up to the Inquisition and the military."
Mo Fan leaned against the wall, his fingers unconsciously stroking the edge of his phone.
"What if I actually run into that?"
"Avoid it," Tang Yue said.
"What if we can't avoid it?"
"Then let's save our lives first," she replied quickly. "Mo Fan, I'm not discussing this with you."
The woman spoke softly, but her tone still held a firm, unyielding edge.
Mo Fan twitched the corner of his mouth and didn't argue with her anymore.
"Okay, I understand."
Tang Yue seemed to sense that there was little honesty in his "I know," and added in a deep voice, "You'd better really know."
"Teacher Tang Yue, you sound like you're disciplining a child."
"If you were really a grown-up, you wouldn't crawl through the sewers alone in the middle of the night."
Mo Fan immediately stopped answering.
After I said that, there was a few seconds of silence on the other end of the phone.
Tang Yue's voice softened slightly: "Leave that area first. Don't wander around when you get back. Don't turn off your phone. I'll contact you again after I check the situation."
"Um."
"And one more thing," Tang Yue paused, "Don't let anyone know about this phone call today."
"I understand."
"Mo Fan."
"what?"
"Don't die."
The phone hangs up.
The alleyway fell silent again.
Mo Fan stood there holding his phone for a while, the casualness on his face long gone, leaving only suppressed frustration and anger.
Stop interfering?
Given the current situation, it's not something that can be resolved simply by not intervening.
The underground road has already been built, and the Black Vatican is forcing the Holy Spring to surface again. Tang Yue didn't say anything definitive, but her meaning was clear: the Holy Spring could be moved at any moment.
If we can't hold on tonight, or if the situation deteriorates further tomorrow night, the entire city of Bo will be overturned.
Mo Fan raised his hand to rub his face, preparing to leave the old alleyway, when suddenly his chest felt hot.
He stopped in his tracks.
The heat came suddenly; it wasn't from the fire outside, nor from the restless lightning stardust. It felt like something was pressing against the skin and heating up.
Mo Fan lowered his head and reached into his collar.
The next second, he pulled out the little loach pendant hanging around his neck.
The little loach was slightly warm.
On the dark, heavy surface of the pendant, a very fine dark red line had appeared at some point, like blood. It lit up little by little along the lines, and then dimmed little by little, as if it were breathing.
Mo Fan stared at it, his brows slowly furrowing.
"What are you doing now?"
The little loach didn't respond at all.
But the temperature was still rising.
It's like it's sensing something.
Mo Fan subconsciously looked up and gazed in a certain direction in the city.
The night was even darker over there, as if an invisible black cloud was pressing down on it.
Earthly Sacred Spring.
The moment this thought popped into his head, the blood-red pattern on the little loach suddenly lit up.
It seems that real trouble is beginning to emerge!
