Full-Time Magister: Rebirth of Mo Fan as the Primordial Evil Phoenix
Chapter 15 Everyone was afraid, only Mo Fan was waiting for nightfall.
At 5:30 a.m., before dawn, Xue Musheng's voice rang out through a megaphone, "Hurry up, hurry up! Don't dawdle, get on the bus now, line up by class, and take your seats!"
This homeroom teacher usually speaks slowly and deliberately in class, as if afraid of startling anyone. But today was clearly different; she walked with a brisk pace, her brows furrowed, practically screaming "Something bad is going to happen."
The students, carrying their bags, moved slowly toward the car.
Some people were quite excited, huddled together in groups of three or five whispering amongst themselves, as if they were going on a picnic. Others, however, were already starting to regret it, standing there with their necks hunched over, looking at the bus as if it were a torture cart.
"Brother Fan." Zhang Xiaohou, carrying a bulging bag, jogged over and said in a low voice, "My right eyelid has been twitching all morning, and something just doesn't feel right."
Mo Fan glanced at him: "It would be strange if your eyelids didn't twitch. You're as skinny as a monkey, with so little flesh on your face that it would tremble in the wind."
Zhang Xiaohou said with a bitter face, "I'm not kidding you. Do you think the school has gone mad, bringing forward the training by two whole semesters? We haven't even gotten used to Xingzi yet. What if we really run into demons when we go to Xuefeng Mountain?"
Mo Fan yawned. He had been cultivating late last night, and his eyelids were still a little heavy.
"If you run into it, just run. What else can you do? Go and reason with it?"
"What if you can't outrun them?"
"It's okay, you just need to run faster than everyone else," Mo Fan patted his shoulder and smirked. "If there's really no one around, then hide behind me."
Zhang Xiaohou immediately breathed a sigh of relief and chuckled twice: "I knew Brother Fan was reliable."
"Come on, if anything really happens, I'll be the first to run!"
The two got into the car after talking.
Not far away, Mu Bai was already standing in front.
This guy was still the same as always, dressed more impeccably than anyone else, zipped up to the perfect position, his hair perfectly styled, standing there like he was about to take a promotional photo. A few girls next to him glanced at him every now and then, but he maintained a nonchalant expression, his back straightening even more.
Mo Fan couldn't help but laugh.
Even at this point, he's still putting on airs like a young master of the Mu family. If demons cared about appearances, they'd probably be the first to snatch him away.
The car started quickly and drove leisurely out of Bocheng.
At first, you could see streets and shops outside the window, but as you drove further, all that remained were weeds, broken roads, and the distant shadows of mountains pressing down on the horizon. The sky darkened, and the people in the car gradually fell silent. There were people laughing and talking in the front, but in the back, not a single word was uttered.
Mo Fan leaned against the car window, his nonchalant expression gradually disappearing.
Early training.
This didn't happen in my previous life.
In other words, this butterfly that has been reborn has probably already started flapping its wings.
He had originally planned to schedule a trip to Hangzhou with his father and Xin Xia. He even had an excuse ready: he'd heard that a high-level healing mage was doing free clinics there, and maybe he could check Xin Xia's leg. As long as his father heard it was related to Xin Xia, he'd do anything to go.
But now that things are in chaos, who knows if the disaster in Bocheng will also come sooner?
Relying on luck is tantamount to courting death.
Ultimately, hiding is one thing, but having the means to save your life is another.
For an average student, practicing step by step is enough. But for him, it's not enough, far from enough.
Mo Fan put his hands in his pockets, his fingertips touching the small mudfish pendant on his chest, and felt a little more at ease.
This thing can devour life essence and suck blood energy.
Others go to Xuefeng Mountain for training, but for him, it's more than just training.
That's a place where you can make a profit.
During the day, with so many people around and the military mages watching, it's inconvenient to do anything. But at night, it's a different story.
Thinking of this, a cold glint flashed in Mo Fan's eyes, and the corners of his mouth twitched.
The car bumped along for another two hours before finally coming to a sudden stop.
"squeak--"
A burst of cursing erupted in the car as the front and back rows were smashed to pieces.
"Get off the bus! Hurry up!" someone shouted from outside.
The students carried their bags and held onto their chairs, moving down one by one.
As soon as the car door opened, a cool breeze rushed in, instantly clearing one's head.
When they finally stood on the ground and saw the place clearly, many people were stunned.
The Xuefeng Mountain Inn was completely different from what they had imagined.
There was no proper training ground or orderly campsite. At the foot of the mountain, a few rows of drab bungalows were haphazardly built, surrounded by an electric fence. Watchtowers stood there, and searchlights swept out in circles, illuminating the surrounding forest in alternating bright and dark light.
Looking further to the side, there stood several military mages, each wrapped in a military overcoat, their trousers covered in mud, and their boots stuck with a dark red substance—it was hard to tell if it was blood or something else. The men smoked as they stared at the students, their eyes filled with the same scornful look one might give a chick.
The air smelled bad too; it wasn't just a musty smell, but also mixed with a pungent, fishy stench, like some wild creature had been frolicking nearby.
The girls' faces changed immediately.
Zhang Xiaohou shrank back and muttered, "Brother Fan, I suddenly find the slop buckets in the school cafeteria much more pleasing to the eye."
"Then go back and sleep with the bucket," Mo Fan replied, but his nose twitched slightly.
The next second, his eyes changed.
It doesn't taste right.
It's too strong, and it doesn't smell like the usual smell of this post station. It's more like some kind of demon has just passed by nearby, not far away.
Mo Fan glanced discreetly at the outside of the power grid.
Outside, a patch of low shrubs swayed in the wind, but looked perfectly normal.
Just then, a tall figure walked over from the side.
The man had a leisurely and carefree demeanor. He was handsome with a ring of dark stubble around his beard, and his nonchalant attitude was somewhat unexpected. He didn't look like a qualified military mages at all.
His gaze paused when it fell on Mo Fan.
When the other students arrived, their faces were all pale, but this kid was different. He didn't look at anyone or the camp; he just kept staring at the outside of the barrier and electric fence.
Zhan Kong narrowed his eyes.
"My name is Zhan Kong, and I'm in charge of this post station."
His voice was rough, like sandpaper, and the moment he stood there, the scene fell silent.
"No matter how outstanding or talented you are in school, once you're out of this net, you'll all be the same in the eyes of the demons."
As he spoke, he raised his hand and pointed outside.
"It's all food."
As soon as he said that, the students' expressions changed instantly.
Zhan Kong seemed quite satisfied with the effect, a slight smirk playing on his lips as he continued, "I know your training this time was brought forward, and many of you haven't even mastered controlling the stars. Don't worry, the school doesn't expect you to go and fight demons right away."
Many students had just breathed a sigh of relief when they heard his next sentence.
"However, you'll have to camp in the outer woods tonight."
The atmosphere instantly turned sour.
"At night, if you hear any noise, no one is allowed to run around. No one is allowed to stray from the group, and no one is allowed to scream. If anyone gets scared out of their wits and runs away by themselves and dies, I'll just remember their name; I won't even bother to retrieve their bones."
He spoke casually, but a group of students were so moved their legs almost went weak.
"Did you understand?"
"Understood!" "Yes, I understand!" came a few scattered responses from the group.
Mo Fan responded in agreement, but inwardly he scoffed.
This scare tactic works well on students, especially those who haven't seen much of the world. But for him, it's nothing special.
Not allowed to run around?
That's something I said to others.
The group quickly dispersed and began collecting tents, sleeping bags, and basic equipment.
Mo Fan had just tucked the sleeping bag under his arm when someone came over.
"Hey, isn't this Mo Fan?" Zhao Kun chuckled sarcastically. "Why are you being so quiet today? You're usually so quick-witted, what's wrong? You've become so subdued since we got to Xuefeng Mountain?"
Mo Fan didn't even bother to look at him.
These things are no different from the buzzing flies on the roadside; if you pay attention to them, they get all excited.
Mu Bai stood to the side, his expression still indifferent. He raised his hand to dust off his sleeves and slowly said, "No one cares if you act recklessly at school, but it's different in the wild. If something really happens, no one will clean up your mess."
Zhao Kunsan immediately chimed in, "Exactly! Some people shouldn't think they can act arrogantly just because they've done well in the assessment. If they really run into a demon, their legs will probably tremble."
Zhang Xiaohou was displeased upon hearing this and opened his mouth to retort, but Mo Fan laughed first.
He turned his head, looked Mu Bai up and down, and his eyes lingered on Mu Bai's clean clothes.
"Your words have reminded me."
Mu Bai frowned but didn't say anything.
Mo Fan grinned: "You really have to keep a low profile in the wild. If you're all dressed up like a signpost and just stand there, people who don't know better might think you're giving a signal to prevent demons from getting lost at night."
Zhang Xiaohou couldn't hold back and burst out laughing.
Several people nearby were also trembling with suppressed laughter.
Zhao Kun stared blankly for two seconds, unable to respond. Mu Bai's face visibly darkened.
Mo Fan was too lazy to waste any more time with them, so he gestured to Zhang Xiaohou with his chin and said, "Monkey, hurry up and grab a good spot. What if the next tent is a girls' tent?"
"ε=(´ο`*))) Sigh... Good! As expected of Brother Fan!" Zhang Xiaohou quickly followed.
The two walked around several newly erected tents and slowly approached the cordon.
The electric grid of the barrier crackled and hissed, with arcs of electricity constantly dancing within it. Looking out, the forest was being swallowed up little by little by twilight, growing darker and darker the deeper one went, as if it could devour one's eyes.
Quiet.
It was so quiet; you couldn't hear anything except the hum of the electricity.
But Mo Fan knew even better that the quieter the place, the more likely it was that something was inside.
Zhan Kong's setup of this outer camp was, frankly, just a way to toughen up the students and let them know what the wilderness is like. But for Mo Fan, this was no different from children playing house.
What's truly valuable is the night.
He still remembered some of the paths from his previous life, which places he could take detours from, and which places might be inhabited by demons. He had a general idea of these things.
Mo Fan reached out and pinched the little mudfish pendant on his chest, a hint of excitement slowly appearing in his eyes.
Others are afraid of the dark.
He couldn't wait for it to get dark.
