Peninsula Cicada Song Diary

Chapter 72 Is an apology useful?

Chapter 74 Is an apology useful?

Pei Xiyan almost couldn't sleep.

Fortunately, there are many hypnotic ASMR videos online. Putting aside those that attract attention with their covers, he finally found a white noise video of a fireplace burning, and drifted off to sleep at two in the morning with the crackling sound of firewood.

Perhaps the video had such a strong hypnotic effect that Pei Xiyan woke up close to midnight.

Pei Xiyan preferred to use a 12-hour clock, but when he glanced at the strong sunlight streaming through the curtains, he knew it was definitely not midnight.

That means one thing, not maybe, but definitely, he was late.

The barrage of messages on my phone and the sheer number of missed calls—enough to play a game of Candy Crush—further illustrate this point.

Pei Xiyan opened the message and began to mentally assess the other party's anger using her own set of standards—whether it was a pistol, a Gatling gun, or, in the most severe case, a grenade launcher.

The address is...

[Hurry up, we're almost there!]

[We've arrived. How much longer do you need?]

[Are you driving? Why aren't you replying to my messages?]

[(Image) Take a look at the menu first, and see what you'd like to eat.]

[Hey! You're not still sleeping, are you? (angry)]

[Oh! Pei Xiyan!]

[ah!!!!!]

[(fist)(fist)(fist)]...

Based on his understanding of girls, this level of force should be considered a grenade launcher, but given girls' personalities, the bullets inside would be soft, harmless cotton candy. But today, there's another girl besides her; hers is definitely loaded with real grenades, the kind that can kill with a shockwave.

But Pei Xiyan remained calm. He casually replied, "[Wait for forty minutes.]"

"[Hey! Pei Xiyan!]" The reply came quickly, followed by an angry phone call.

It's inconvenient to make a phone call. After replying to the message, Pei Xiyan leisurely got out of bed, lifting the covers.

Just like if he woke up and found he still had four or five hours before school started, he would naturally choose to sprint to finish his unfinished summer homework. But if there were only ten minutes left, besides hoping that a time machine would fall from the sky and travel back to yesterday to make up for it, he would probably only have the option of giving up and accepting his fate.

Since things had come to this point, Pei Xiyan believed that rushing things wouldn't change the outcome, so she might as well proceed at her own pace.

After washing up, he went to the courtyard to check out the weather. The sun was shining brightly, and there was a gentle breeze, perfect for wearing a trench coat.

After changing into suitable clothes, Pei Xiyan followed the address on her phone and drove to the restaurant located in the Jiangnan District.

Exactly forty minutes, down to the second.

This is a European-style restaurant with a refreshing decor. Decorative greenery surrounds the space, and a four-tiered stone fountain stands at the entrance, its water cascading from the fourth tier into a pool below filled with floating green duckweed. Several crystal chandeliers hang from the transparent glass ceiling, flanked by arched doors and windows. Sunlight streams warmly through the glass, its reflections refracting through the chandeliers to create unique light trails on the marble floor, like the sun's signature.

The atmosphere is great; it looks perfect for taking photos and checking in.

Just as he expected, Pei Xiyan saw two familiar figures sitting near the fountain taking pictures with their phones, using the reflections on the arched doors and windows on either side.

Judging from their hand gestures and poses, they seemed to be in a rather pleasant mood, as if the messages on his phone had never existed.

But Pei Xiyan knew it was all an illusion. Beautiful things could temporarily delay a girl's outburst of anger, much like butter does to a zombie.

He then walked towards the two of them, his pace neither fast nor slow, calling their names in a calm tone, "Eunha, Eunbi."

.

The moment his voice rang out, the two girls paused in their actions, their beautiful mood vanishing in the blink of an eye.

With her back to him, Ding Enfei turned her head to glare angrily. Her jellyfish-shaped hairstyle only made her look cute, like a Sunshroom from Plants vs. Zombies. She had no threat whatsoever and was only suitable for standing in the back of the lawn, acting cute and generating sunshine.

Huang Enfei, who was facing him, was different. She put down her phone, crossed her legs, and her face turned cold. Her aura was much more intimidating than Ding Enfei's. Pei Xiyan knew she had a good personality, but when she put on a stern face, she was particularly frightening, like a female villain in a TV drama.

When Pei Xiyan walked up to her, she immediately began her aggressive questioning.

"Do you know you're late?" Hwang Eun-bi asked in a low voice, clutching her chest.

"Do you know?" Ding Enfei echoed, crossing her arms and speaking in a soft voice.

"Yes, sir." Pei Xiyan pulled out a chair and sat down, apologizing frankly.

"Is an apology enough?" Hwang Eun-bi frowned, her tone rising slightly.

"Is that enough?" Ding Enfei asked weakly.

"Mi ah nei, mi ah nei." Pei Xiyan then said a couple of sentences.

"Hey! Pei Xiyan!" Huang Enfei was even more dissatisfied and looked like she was about to slam her fist on the table.

"Pei Xiyan!"

Pei Xiyan looked at Ding Enfei, who was also about to slam her hand on the table, and thought that if she were to slam her hand down, it might hurt so much that her little pearl would fall out.

"Name your price," he said, not intending to brush off the mistake of being late.

"One album," Hwang Eun-bi said casually.

"One..." Ding Enfei suddenly turned her head halfway through her sentence, looking at Huang Enfei with an incredulous expression. Her round eyes seemed to ask, "Why is it different from what we agreed on? So you have such a big appetite?"

"Are you sick today?" Pei Xiyan raised an eyebrow, wanting to reach out and check her forehead temperature.

"I'm not sick," Huang Enfei said angrily, slapping his hand away. "Just tell me if you agree or not."

"I'm currently working at JYP, so I might not have time for a while," Pei Xiyan said casually.

"Why did you go to JYP?" Ding Enfei looked at him in surprise.

"I thought you only wrote songs for SM Entertainment," Hwang Eunbi said, blinking with surprise.

"If I only write songs for SM, then what are you guys?" Pei Xiyan retorted.

"How dare you say that? We've known each other for so long, and all you've written for us is that one song!" Huang Enfei started to settle accounts.

Although that song directly helped them gain popularity and market share, and they gradually became a top girl group, "Time Passes By" played a significant role in that success.

"Because your comebacks always coincide with SM's comeback schedule, I can't do two things at once," Pei Xiyan said helplessly. "Your CEO still hates SM too much."

SourceMusic, the company GFriend belongs to, is headed by Su Cheng-jin, who was formerly a high-ranking executive and producer at SM Entertainment.

But like many companies, he had a falling out with other executives at SM Entertainment due to issues with the artists' styles, so he left in anger to start his own company. Even the company's abbreviation is "sm", which shows how targeted it was.
