Peninsula Cicada Song Diary

Chapter 23 Zhang Gan's Iced Americano

The sky opened its floodgates, and countless raindrops fell from the clouds, blurring not only the streets outside JYP but also the distant landscape.

In an instant, the entire city of Seoul was shrouded in rain.

"Just a little bit more." Sana Minatozaki turned around as well, the black-rimmed glasses on her nose reflecting the blurry street scene outside. "Otherwise, it would have been terrible if the coffee had gotten wet."

"Isn't Sanaxi worried about getting wet?" Pei Xiyan found her words a bit strange.

"It's definitely bad to get wet yourself," Sana Minatozaki said, sticking out her tongue. "But it's normal for idols to get wet. Sometimes it rains during our outdoor schedules. We won't get wet, but the coffee will."

"What if you catch a cold after getting caught in the rain?" Pei Xiyan asked, puzzled. "Is it okay to go on stage while sick?"

"Even if it's just a cold, I'll still go on stage." Sana Minatozaki said without the slightest hesitation.

Pei Xiyan was stunned for a moment, "Sanaxi is really dedicated."

"Since you've chosen the path of an idol, you should do this." Sana Minatozaki looked at him. "If you can't even do the simplest thing like being dedicated, you won't achieve anything great no matter what job you do."

The lenses no longer reflected the street scene, but instead reflected her deep brown pupils, which shimmered with a light called earnestness like the surface of water. Pei Xiyan suddenly saw Pei Zhuxuan's face flash before his eyes, and he had seen the same earnestness in Pei Zhuxuan's eyes before.

"Sanaxi is right." He nodded slightly.

"Actually, Xiyan is a very dedicated person, otherwise she wouldn't have come to discuss songs with PD-nim in this kind of weather." Minatozaki Sana's eyes narrowed into crescent moons.

She really loves to laugh, like a little fox; I doubt any animal would refuse to be her friend.

Pei Xiyan thought to herself, "You're really wrong. I didn't come because I'm dedicated to my work; I came because of you."

But it was obviously too strange to say that, so he gave a faint "hmm" and then pretended to take a sip of his iced Americano.

The white straw in his cup didn't change color, and Sana Minatozaki fanned her eyelashes.

Once inside the elevator on the first floor, the manager pressed the 4F button, while Pei Xiyan pressed 6F. Although Park Jin-young had said "see you at the cafeteria" on the phone, it was clearly not lunchtime yet.

The elevator went up floor by floor without stopping, and with a "ding," it quickly arrived at the fourth floor.

As soon as the elevator doors opened, the agent strode out first.

"Xiyan-xi." Minatozaki Sana then extended her hand to him.

Pei Xiyan handed over the coffee bag. She almost missed it the first time, but managed to catch it steadily the second time. "Xiyan-xi, will you be going to the cafeteria at noon?" she asked, trying to hide her embarrassment.

"If I come to JYP and order takeout, my senior will definitely think I look down on him," Pei Xiyan shrugged.

His meaning was clear, and Sana Minato's lips curled into a slight smile: "Then see you at noon, Shiyan-xi."

She reached out and pressed the close button for him, then nimbly slipped out through the closing elevator doors.

Before the elevator doors closed, Pei Xiyan saw her turn around again; her reddish-brown hair swayed beautifully beside her ears.

"Although Xiyan doesn't like coffee, please don't waste it~"

Before Pei Xiyan could respond, the silver-white door closed completely.

He glanced at the iced Americano in his hand. Since he hadn't drunk much, it was still full. He obediently took a sip and found that the previously bitter taste now seemed to have a hint of sweetness.

Pei Xiyan refused to believe it and tried again.

Tsk, it was so bitter that he grimaced, wondering if there was any candy in Park Jin-young's office.

The elevator continued upwards and stopped on the sixth floor. There was a trash can by the door. Pei Xiyan stopped there, removed the lid from her cup, tilted her head back and drank the coffee in one gulp, then threw the coffee cup with the remaining ice into the trash can.

"Hiss." With a bitter taste in his mouth, he walked to the office door and knocked.

Behind the door wasn't a little white rabbit, but a smiling, benevolent gorilla face.

Park Jin-young was indeed here.

"Come on, junior, the weather outside is so bad, have a sip of hot tea to warm yourself up first."

The window at a 90-degree angle revealed a view of the torrential rain outside. Park Jin-young held up a teacup, his face displaying a smile that contrasted sharply with the weather, much like the grandparents living in the countryside who would offer you what they considered the best food when you returned, all with that same smile on their faces.

Pei Xiyan respected the elderly and cared for the young, so she couldn't refuse.

The steam from the teacup rose directly onto his face, and Pei Xiyan suddenly regretted finishing his iced Americano so quickly. At least he could have taken out the ice cubes and thrown them into the teacup to cool it down. But thinking that the cooled tea would be even more bitter, in order to get rid of the bitterness in his mouth, he could only take a small sip first.

Ugh, this is even worse.

"Besides green tea, what else is in your office, senior?" Pei Xiyan put down her teacup.

"Personally, green tea is enough for me," Park Jin-young said. "It's healthy and can refresh you when you're tired. Is there a more perfect office drink?"

"Doesn't the senior eat snacks?"

"I won't eat it."

"Not even a little bit?"

"When I'm home, I'll have a little bit with my daughter. You know, kids like to eat this."

"I like to eat them too." Pei Xiyan looked regretful. "I was also thinking of seeing if there were any candies or anything like that in my senior's office. I get inspiration when I eat sweets..."

"You should have said so earlier, junior." Park Jin-young slapped his thigh, showing a kind of heroic spirit that couldn't bear to see his brother wronged. "There's one in the staff break room next door, just wait there."

He strode out of the office and came back with a handful of candy. "Halloween is coming up in a few days, and the company has prepared a lot of candy."

"Thank you, senior." Pei Xiyan raised an eyebrow, picked up a watermelon-flavored candy, unwrapped it, and put it in his mouth. As the sweetness filled his mouth, he let out a long sigh.

This is the taste that suits my body type.

"Your junior's composition is really well written!" Park Jin-young sat down again, took a sip of tea, and then started talking about business. "When people hear songs like 'Cheer Up' and 'TT,' they think of Twice. You could say that the energetic and cute style is Twice's signature. But the demo you wrote gave me the idea that 'this strong, novel, and unique Dalla-style youth is just like ITZY.'"

"When I was composing music, I remembered that people are very sensitive during their adolescence." Pei Xiyan bit the candy in her mouth. "Back then, if you didn't do your homework, the teacher would call you to stand in the corridor as punishment. It wasn't a big deal, but when you looked at the people coming and going, you would have a thought in your mind that 'my life is over.'"

"When you grow up and look back, you'll find that being punished by standing is just a very small thing in life. Youth shouldn't be afraid of strange looks; you just need to stand tall and be yourself."

"Junior's analogy is very accurate. That's exactly the idea that ITZY wants to convey." Park Jin-young nodded in agreement. "Before junior came, I sent the piece to the second-year department, which is mainly in charge of ITZY, and they all felt that it fit ITZY's style."

"The senior's actions are really swift and decisive."

"Work should be done quickly and efficiently," Park Jin-young said with a smile. "So, what are your thoughts on the lyrics to match the song, junior?"

"Since it's for ITZY's debut song," Pei Xiyan thought of a pair of distinctive fox-like eyes with upturned corners, "Actually... we could try asking them."
