Huayu: Starting from an Unemployed Male Model
Chapter 72 How to Get on the Cover of a Fashion Magazine
Wei Jun's upcoming business trip has been confirmed. Three days later, he will be taking his assistant Yang Chaoyue to shoot for Esquire magazine.
Before setting off, he asked Yang Chaoyue to hold up the InSight camera, point the lens at him, and film a magazine vlog for him. This vlog was filmed from the assistant's perspective.
Wei Jun's look today is youthful and trendy. He has black sunglasses on his forehead, a white printed T-shirt, light blue jeans, a retro yellow and white paisley scarf tied to the jeans strap, and white sneakers.
Wei Jun sat in a round swivel chair, his back to the camera, holding a magazine in his hands. After Yang Chaoyue called "action," he swiveled the chair around, turned to face the camera, and said, "How to get on the cover of a fashion magazine? Today we're shooting..."
Wei Jun left a cliffhanger in the video, nodding vigorously. His sunglasses slid down his forehead due to inertia, landing on his high nose bridge. He paused for a few seconds, then stood up to check the recording.
"Is that all? Will anyone watch?" Yang Chaoyue asked doubtfully.
As Wei Jun flipped through the videos, he replied, "How could no one watch them? The public is definitely interested in how celebrities shoot for magazines."
"Oh, that makes sense." Yang Chaoyue tilted her head, thinking. The boss is so handsome, how could no one watch? Then she hesitated, "Won't filming like this affect the video quality, right?"
After checking the camera, Wei Jun tossed it back to her: "Just shoot like this. If it's too professional, it will look lifeless."
"When we get to the Esquire photoshoot later, should we film everything?" I'll feel a little embarrassed to be filmed in front of so many people.
"Just shoot whatever you find interesting from your perspective. I'll remind you what you can and can't shoot," Wei Jun said, looking at her pouting face. "Don't worry, I've already spoken to the magazine brand."
Upon arriving at the Shanghai Field Art Space, the two followed the staff to the photography studio. Wei Jun reminded Yang Chaoyue, "You can take pictures of the environment, props, costumes, etc., but try not to take pictures of people."
Yang Chaoyue nodded obediently.
Wei Jun didn't care how she filmed it, as long as the final shot would be a picture for his magazine, a little bit of the process was fine.
"Mr. Wei Jun, the dressing room is on the left." A staff member led the way.
Just as the staff was about to push open the door, the inner door opened first, and a woman with long, wet hair, wearing a light blue and cinnamon-colored LV dress and a diamond necklace walked out.
"Excuse me, Ms. Zhang Tianai." The staff member realized they were blocking the way and quickly moved aside.
Zhang Tianai smiled gently: "It's nothing, I just happened to be out." Then her gaze passed over the staff and looked at Wei Jun, her pupils widening slightly before quickly returning to normal.
She smiled and nodded to Wei Jun, a greeting between colleagues, and Wei Jun responded politely.
The two brushed past each other without saying much, knowing they would meet again later anyway.
Yang Chaoyue quietly approached Wei Jun and said, "Who was that just now? She's so pretty, and she has such a commanding presence."
"Didn't you say you wanted to see 'I Belonged to You' during the National Day holiday? She has a role in it." Wei Jun glanced at Yang Chaoyue.
"Is she Zhang Tianai?" Yang Chaoyue took out her phone and looked at the cast list for the movie. "Is she really that beautiful in person?"
Wei Jun nodded.
Zhang Tianai is indeed a rare breed in the Chinese entertainment industry. She has excellent bone structure, heroic eyebrows and eyes, a small head, broad shoulders, and a very good head-to-shoulder ratio. With heavy makeup, she is a glamorous and aggressive beauty, while without makeup, she is a delicate and pretty woman. She has high versatility.
Upon entering the dressing room, a short-haired woman in a black suit was tidying up her makeup tools. When she caught sight of Wei Jun entering, she immediately stood up to greet him: "Hello, Mr. Wei Jun, I'm your makeup artist for today, Haha."
Haha is one of the resident makeup artists at Esquire magazine, and has worked with many celebrities, such as Hu Ge, Yang Mi, and Ni Ni...
Wei Jun gently shook hands with the makeup artist and smiled tenderly, "Thank you for your hard work today."
Haha gestured for Wei Jun to sit down, asking him to wait a moment while she went to clean her hands. When Haha returned, she was already wearing a white mask and began to do his basic skincare and apply his foundation.
"Your skin is better than I expected." Haha said, applying foundation evenly with a brush.
This issue of Esquire features a makeup look that leans towards a "salt-like" aesthetic, with minimal contouring. A thin layer of contour is applied only below the cheekbones, along the jawline, and on both sides of the nose to make the facial structure sharper and more defined.
Wei Jun's eyebrows are well-shaped and don't need much trimming. While maintaining the shape, the tail of the eyebrow is extended with an extremely thin line and the end is slightly narrowed, making his facial features more three-dimensional.
The makeup artist was carefully applying makeup, while Yang Chaoyue was recording Wei Jun's makeup process.
After the makeup was almost done, the stylist pushed a heavy stainless steel clothes rack with five or six pieces of clothing hanging on it.
"This is a SANKUANZ black and gold jacquard suit," the stylist said, turning out the brand label inside the collar. "It's from the 2016 Fall/Winter collection, with a Chinese style theme. This design uses a lot of Eastern imagery."
Wei Jun examined the suit and noticed that the collar and cuffs were outlined with a bamboo forest pattern in gold thread. The suit was exceptionally comfortable to wear.
The upper body is slightly wider than a standard suit. Wei Jun has a great physique and works out regularly, so he doesn't need shoulder pads and can carry off the suit perfectly.
After the styling was completed, Wei Jun arrived at the photography studio. The studio was simply furnished with a white background wall decorated with wreaths of various colors, some furniture on the left, a large bookshelf on the right, and a transparent sphere filled with colored paper hanging overhead.
The photographer is Chen Lai, the photography director who has collaborated with Esquire magazine for many years. He has shot countless covers for major magazines, is skilled in portrait photography, and has a diverse style. He is a master photographer.
"Teacher Wei, please turn around."
"Yes, extend your forearm slightly forward."
"Tuck your chin in a little and look at the camera."
"Perfect, beautiful, just like that."
Photographer Chen Lai gave instructions while taking photos, the shutter clicking away. Wei Jun followed the instructions and performed several sets of movements.
While Wei Jun was taking pictures, Yang Chaoyue also held up her camera and took pictures of him, sometimes zooming in on his face, sometimes zooming out to see his whole body, and taking pictures from various angles. She found that no matter what angle she took the pictures from, the boss was always so handsome, and there were almost no unflattering angles.
"What are you filming?" A clear voice came from beside Yang Chaoyue's ear.
She turned around and saw Zhang Tianai, who had just come out of the dressing room.
"I'm filming a vlog," Yang Chaoyue said, her eyes fixed on her, "documenting my boss's workday from an assistant's perspective."
"Vlog? That sounds interesting." Zhang Tianai glanced at the camera in Yang Chaoyue's hand, smiled, and said, "Film one for me too."
"I have to take the photos for my boss." Yang Chaoyue refused ruthlessly. I am the boss's assistant, not your assistant, no matter how beautiful you are.
"Well," Zhang Tianai wasn't annoyed by Yang Chaoyue's refusal, but instead pointed to the small handheld camera, "may I be in the picture?"
Yang Chaoyue asked in surprise, "Why are you in the shot? This isn't your vlog."
Zhang Tianai straightened her back: "I'm quite popular too, appearing on camera can help your boss get some more traffic."
Yang Chaoyue pouted and shook her head: "My boss gets more traffic."
"Okay." Zhang Tianai wasn't disappointed; she was just curious and wanted to play around.
The two of them didn't speak again and went about their own business.
After a while, Zhang Tianai was called to the front by the photographer.
