The Bizarre Adventure of the Warhammer Guard

Chapter 66 Choices and Conclusions

Renault's arrival did not affect Mengsk much. After finishing some documents, he went to the lounge where Renault was to wait.

The metal door to the lounge closed behind Mengsk with a dull thud. Pale white incandescent light streamed down from above, casting a long shadow onto the cold metal wall.

His gaze swept around the lounge. The surveillance equipment in one corner of the room was turned off, and there was a still bottle of water on the table. Renault was sitting on the bed next to the table.

“Mr. Renault,” Mengsk stepped forward, his fingertips tracing the edge of the table, “you have done an excellent job. But remember, my goal has not yet been achieved. The Federation has crumbled, and the seeds of my new empire have been sown.”

"Go to hell!" Renault raised his head, his eyes sweeping over the red emblem on the other man's chest. What was once a symbol of freedom and insurrection had become a dictator wielding a whip to indoctrinate the masses.

After a period of calm, Renault was indeed not as impulsive as before.

"I did make a huge mistake." Mengsk's eyes burned with fury. "I've sacrificed too much to get this far. Now, I won't let anyone stop me."

"For example, sacrificing Kerrigan!" Raynor stared at the power-hungry man in front of him, a stark contrast to the idealistic revolutionaries he had met before.

"You'll regret this, Mr. Renault." Mengsk glanced at Renault and continued, "You don't seem to understand the situation. If it weren't for that damned golden giant, do you think you'd still be standing here talking to me?"

"No one can stop me." Mengsk suddenly slammed his fist on the table, causing the water glass to tremble and splash. "The Federation can't, the Zerg can't, the Protoss can't, nobody can!"

Mengsk's voice became erratic and emotional, as if he were making a declaration.

"You just wait and see, I will rule this sector. As for your new masters," Mengsk's eyes darkened, "if they dare to stop me, I'll give them scorched earth."

"We'll see, Mengsk." Reno stood up, walked across the bedside table, and came to Mengsk.

"Leaders of uprisings from various regions are visiting, Commander. Awaiting your orders." The mechanic's electronic voice came through Mengsk's headset.

"Let's go, Mr. Renault. Once you've rested enough, we'll head back. I'm not going to treat you to dinner."

Meanwhile, Elpis was studying the secrets of the Argos Crystal in his lounge. These days, whenever he had free time, he would try to sense what was inside the crystal that could attract the power of the moon goddess.

He held the Spear of the Moon in one hand and the Argos Crystal in the other, both resonating with Elpis's body.

In an instant, the energy flowing inside the crystal was continuously drawn out, flowing through the body and the Spear of the Moon Goddess, and finally returning to the crystal.

In just one round trip, the power of the moon goddess within Elpis increased several times. A strange feeling welled up in his heart, as if he were about to break through some invisible shackles.

Elpis felt that it wouldn't be long before the energy within his body would "break through." Moreover, with the absorption of the Argos Crystal, he would be able to return to the Warhammer universe.

Since that's the case, and we've collected almost everything, it's time to prepare to go back, Elpis thought to himself. But first, he needed to ask someone.

"Sheriff Reno." Elpis arrived at the bar, his purpose being to inquire about Reno's wishes.

"What brings you here, Elpis?" Renault asked, slightly drunk, his tone somewhat flippant.

Since returning from the Hyperion, Renault had been staying at the bar. Seeing Elpis enter, he put down his glass and looked at the figure bathed in golden light.

"I'm getting ready to go back."

"What do you mean?" Upon hearing Elpis's words, the drunkenness in Renault's eyes lessened somewhat.

"Literal meaning." Elpis walked up to Renault, looking down at the drunkard still slumped over the bar. "You can choose to stay, or you can choose to come with us."

Renault braced himself against the bar and struggled to sit up. Then, he shook his head a few times and rubbed his eyes vigorously.

“I have nothing left to hold me here. Mara Sara is gone, the Federation has collapsed, and even…” Renault paused, then continued, “she’s gone too. It seems I only have one option left.”

"Not necessarily." Elpis looked at the dejected mortal. "If you come with us, you might not be able to come back for several years, or you might never be able to come back in this lifetime."

"Can we never come back?" Renault stood up from the stool, one hand still bracing himself against the table to prevent himself from falling.

"However, there's another piece of news that I think you'll be more interested in."

Renault picked up his glass again. "What news?"

"Kerrigan is not completely dead yet."

"What!" Renault's eyes widened instantly, his face filled with disbelief.

The glass slipped from Reno's stiff fingers, bounced and tumbled against the metal stool leg, and then fell to the ground. Its relatively solid construction left the glass intact, but the wine spilled out, splashing onto Reno's clothes.

"Is this true?" Renault couldn't believe it, but Elpis's words gave him a glimmer of hope, "She's still alive?"

"That's right," Elpis nodded, "If you stay, this warship is yours."

"I need to process this," Renault said, his eyes darting around, looking somewhat lost for a moment.

"Okay, we'll leave tomorrow. You can make your decision then."

After saying that, Elpis turned and left the bar, leaving Renault with a furrowed brow.

The next day, in a cabin of the Norard II, Elpis retrieved the machine spirits from the warship, moved the Falcon-type motorcycle to the gathering place, and carried with him all the technology blueprints, silicon ore, ghost gold, and various other supplies he had collected over the past few days.

Everyone arrived: three Shadowmoon Wolves, one Untouchable, one Psionicist, and one Imperial Guard.

Renault opened the door to the gathering place and looked at everyone; he had made his decision.

"So Renault," Elpis looked at Renault, already knowing Renault's thoughts, "you've made up your mind."

"Yes," Reno nodded, "if it's all true, I still want to find Kerrigan."

"No problem," Elpis said, giving Renault one last look before presenting him with a shield device. "May the Emperor bless you."

Then, a beam of white light enveloped everyone and their supplies, distorting space into a vortex that instantly swallowed them. The entire cabin returned to its previous silence, as if nothing had ever happened.

"May the Emperor bless you."

Renault chuckled and glanced at the badge-like device in his hand. He didn't know the meaning of the words, but that didn't stop him from knowing that it was a blessing from his friends.

Then, Renault turned around and left the empty room.
