The Bizarre Adventure of the Warhammer Guard

Chapter 48 Casual Chat in the Bar

As time passed, a transport fleet of the Sons of Korhal arrived in orbit around the planet Mar-Sala.

As agreed with Commander Rugal, they will take all the survivors on the planet to the Sons of Korhal's territory, and Rugal will join the Sons of Korhal and serve Mengsk.

Of course, when they first arrived in Mar-sala and received the message from Rugal, the Sons of Khar were shocked. They had not expected that less than forty people could capture Norad II.

A behemoth-class strategic cruiser—this is a vehicle reserved for one's own leader.

Bringing all the survivors from a planet to space would be extremely time-consuming. Moreover, with the Zerg ravaging Mar-Sala and dozens of colonies teetering on the brink of collapse, the Sons of Korhal, after exchanging information, planned to complete the transfer of all survivors within seven days.

During this period, Elpis also completed the initial integration of Noral II. Some key positions, such as the engine room and command center, were all filled by his own people.

All the federal soldiers on the ship were also inspected, and Elpis screened out those who were still loyal to the federal government, preventing them from continuing to serve in any position.

Renault and his crew finally had a rare moment of leisure. After the battles of the past few days, they could finally relax for a while in the crew rest area on the Norard II.

It's called a lounge, but it's actually more like a bar, with tables and chairs, and most importantly, it's stocked with a lot of alcohol and has a bar counter.

“Guys,” Reno said, swirling his glass of wine, “those bugs look scary, but one looks like a puppy, another like a giant cockroach, and yet another like a flying lizard. Doesn’t that make them less scary?”

Renault had already taken off his power armor and was now sitting on a bar stool, wearing his signature white T-shirt and brown tactical vest.

He was surrounded by his support staff, who rarely participated in the fighting and could only occasionally see footage of the soldiers battling through videos.

Therefore, they would be particularly interested in hearing people talk about these alien Zerg from federal propaganda.

Renault was happy to share these experiences, often recounting his combat adventures with a humorous tone, though he sometimes embellished them with a bit of his own artistic license.

"Those wyverns. Oh, right, you know, those flying lizards," he downed his beer in one gulp, casually placed it on the table, and continued, "They're over three meters long and incredibly ferocious. I was defending the Deadwater Base when I saw them, and I was quite startled."

"What happens next? What happens next?" Everyone around was eagerly anticipating what would happen next.

Reno didn't say anything more, but instead looked at the empty beer glass. The bartender understood and immediately refilled the glass with beer, handing it to Reno.

"The beer from the Federation is really good, much better than the beer I had in Mar-a-Lago." Reno held the beer in his left hand and patted the "Shattered Star" revolver clipped to his waist with his right hand, quite proudly.

"See my treasure? It was super fast! I drew it in a flash, hundreds of meters away, and blew the dragon's head off, bringing it down."

Renault took a big gulp of beer and continued to boast, while the people around him laughed and chatted.

The door to the lounge opened, and a huge figure walked toward Renault. The support staff scattered to make way for the huge figure, and their voices gradually softened.

Renault noticed that the surrounding noise had suddenly quieted down, and turned to look at the newcomer.

"It seems Sheriff Reynolds enjoys chatting." Loken walked straight toward Reynolds.

Seeing the expressions on everyone's faces, Loken was momentarily dazed. He felt as if he had returned to the glorious years of the Great Expedition, when countless chroniclers, scholars, and poets gathered together to proclaim that passionate era.

The way these human compatriots from another world looked at him was exactly the same as the way those mortals looked at him, except that they had more fear in their eyes and less worship.

"It's alright, I quite like this relaxed atmosphere." Reno raised his glass of beer. "Captain Loken, would you like some beer?"

"Thank you, but I don't need it. It would slow down my nerve reaction time." Loken waved his hand, declining Renault's offer.

Then he sat down on the metal box next to him, since the chairs couldn't support the weight of Loken in his armor. "Just like you, I like to soak up the atmosphere here."

"Aren't you going to take off your power armor?" Renault asked. "Wearing it all the time is tiring."

"There's no equipment for removing armor here," Loken said quietly, sitting there with his eyes closed, enjoying the relaxed atmosphere.

The bartender came out of the kitchen and placed a plate of fries in front of Reno. Reno put down his beer, picked up a fry and put it in his mouth. Then, he pushed the plate of fries toward Loken.

"Since you're not drinking, try the fries," Reno said. "Since we're here, we should eat something."

Loken opened his eyes and looked at the strips of food beside him. He gently picked up a French fry.

The tiny fry was held perfectly in Loken's enormous fingers, without being squeezed or broken. Then, he simply put the fry into his mouth and swallowed it.

"Seriously, man, you eat fries like that?" Renault exclaimed in surprise.

"It's just inefficient energy," Loken said. "This kind of food doesn't require chewing either."

"Forget it, you're all the same." Renault put a few more fries in his mouth. "By the way, how come you guys are so strong? You stormed into the command center in no time. We can only follow behind you like accessories."

"I am Astartes," Loken smiled. "Decades of training, hundreds of years of fighting, my life is dedicated to fighting the enemies of humanity."

"Centuries! My friend, how old are you this year? You look to be only in your thirties." Renault was surprised by what Loken said. He took a sip of his drink, turned around, and looked at Loken, who was standing calmly to the side.

"I don't know, I haven't really calculated it," Loken said. "I underwent Astartes modification, so I'm probably over 200 years old now?"

"Alright, I really envy you guys." Reno stood up, his gaze barely reaching Loken's seated face. "If I joined you, do you have any similar lifespan-extending surgeries?"

“There are many.” Loken saw that Reno’s eyes lit up after hearing this. “However, I reckon you’ll have to follow Lord Elpis’s orders, and he’ll decide which type of modification surgery you’ll undergo.”

"Well, I can't wait!" Renault rubbed his hands together excitedly. "I remember he promised me a high-ranking position. Then I can finally enjoy a long and happy life."

Loken smiled, but a strange look flickered in his eyes, as if he were suppressing a laugh. Then, a message beeped from Loken's communicator. After checking it, he immediately stood up and said to Reno in a low voice:

"Let's go, Lord Elpis is calling us. Your 'good days' are coming soon. Let's finish the next task first."
