The Bizarre Adventure of the Warhammer Guard
Chapter 34 An Unchangeable Fate
Elpis, Andros, and Hill moved quickly through Guilliman's palace; they needed to find Guilliman as soon as possible.
At the same time, Hill also used communication equipment to notify the mortal garrison stationed there, as well as the allied forces who had previously participated in the Battle of Thessalon.
Finally, they arrived at the door of the tightly closed infirmary, where they could hear sounds of fighting coming from inside.
At that moment, a Space Marine was thrown out of the infirmary from the inside out; his chest was caved in, and judging from the shape, he had been smashed away by the Hand of Domination.
"It's you guys again!" Guilliman's angry voice came from inside.
Looking inside, one could see the sergeant and two other Astartes attacking Guilliman, who had already injured the sergeant by hitting him with a chair. The other five Astartes lay scattered haphazardly in the infirmary, surrounded by the corpses of ordinary people.
Elpis's extraordinary mind instantly assessed the situation on the field: the ten Astartes who came to greet them were all disguised members of the Alpha Legion.
These loyal mortals successfully thwarted the traitors' first attack, sacrificing their lives to protect their lord and delay their arrival.
Elpis strode forward, reaching Guilliman's side. With a flick of his spear, he sent three Alpha warriors flying. Swiftly shifting his weight, Elpis thrust forward, breaking through the enemy's defenses at a tricky angle and successfully piercing the neck of one of the Alphas.
Then, the spear slashed diagonally, leaving a huge wound on the chest of another Astartes. The force was so great that it almost split him in two.
Andros and Hill arrived and, with a punch each, quickly subdued the remaining injured sergeant.
Guilliman was in bad shape. He was holding onto the table with both hands, his face was pale, and the old wound on his neck had been punctured again, with the blood clotted at the edges of the wound visible.
This was just a normal injury, without any additional warp energy, so the Primarch's injuries healed quickly.
But at this moment, the balance within Guilliman's body was disrupted. Taking advantage of the Primarch's injury, the chaotic toxins once again ravaged his godlike physique, and the healing potions within his body could no longer stop the toxins' corrosive effects.
"Heh..." The detained sergeant spoke. His helmet had been removed, and he was still bald, but his eyes had changed, becoming deep and calm, showing no concern for his situation.
"Brother," he said, "this is fate."
"Alpharis? Omega?" Elpis stared at the eccentric Astartes in front of him.
"It's not the right time yet," the sergeant slowly turned his head to look at Elpis, who had just spoken. "The time is not right."
As soon as he finished speaking, the sergeant's eyes glazed over, his head drooped, and he was utterly lifeless. Elpis was certain that the one controlling the sergeant was either Alpharis or his twin Primarch, Omega—Primarch 20, the Lord of Hydra.
"Fate has intervened," Elpis thought to himself. "Could it be that Alphares also knew that Guilliman would die at this moment? Did it also know that Guilliman was placed in a static position in the moment before his death, until ten thousand years later?"
It seems that the lord of Hydra has left himself with many questions.
When would be the right time? Elpis hadn't yet figured out what that meant. This Twin Primarch was always like this; no one knew whether he was a loyalist or a traitor.
"My lord," Andros said, shaking off the dead enemy and coming to the Primarch's side, supporting him with a worried expression, "Are you alright?"
Hill rushed to the Primarch's side, where he was frantically calling for medical personnel.
"It seems my time is running out," Guilliman said weakly. "I can only hold on for three more days at most."
"No, sir," Andros said, "you will be alright, we will definitely find a way."
"I have something here that might be useful." Elpis frowned and pulled a vial of potion from his armor. "I'll give it a shot."
Guilliman took the medicine and downed it in one gulp. After a while, Guilliman's complexion gradually returned to normal, and he was able to stand up on his own, but he was still weak.
"What kind of medicine is this? It's so effective!" Guilliman asked.
"A panacea," Elpis answered crisply. "It's made from a damaged STC template. Unlike other potions, it works directly at the genetic level to repair. It's said that a complete STC can create a potion that can cure everything."
"But it seems the panacea can't completely eliminate the toxins in your body," Elpis said. "It can only temporarily slow down the toxins' effects."
"This is already quite useful." Guilliman looked around at everything. The bodies of Alpha warriors lay scattered on the ground, and the blood of loyalists was splattered all around.
Soon after, the garrison and Ultramarines arrived, having received the news, and Guilliman received another full course of treatment. The result was the same: other treatments couldn't stop the poison's effects; only the Panacea in Elpis's possession had any effect.
The apothecary estimated that even with the All-Purpose Elixir, the Primarch's body would only last for a few decades. Furthermore, he would no longer be able to fight; otherwise, even the All-Purpose Elixir would be ineffective.
"Let's go back to Terra first," Guilliman said. He had calculated the remaining amount of the Panacea and knew he had plenty of time to return to Terra. "In my last moments, I can also handle the affairs of the entire Empire and try to leave something behind."
"I have a production line for a panacea that can delay your death as much as possible," Elpis said.
"Thank you very much, Elpis." Guilliman nodded. "I owe you again. If you ever need anything in the future, the children of Altrama will do their best to help."
"I have a suggestion," Elpis accepted Guilliman's promise, "why not prepare a settling chamber, so you can go directly into it after you've dealt with everything? Perhaps then we can find a way to remove the toxins."
The surrounding Ultra Warriors echoed their agreement; they didn't want to lose their Gene Father and all agreed to the plan.
Placing one's hopes on an immeasurable future, while being trapped in a static chamber like a sleeping prisoner, Guilliman's rational mind did not approve of this plan.
But seeing the worried looks in the eyes of his children, and thinking of the current human empire and his father sitting high on the golden throne, Guilliman nodded in agreement to the plan.
"Ready to go." Guilliman, having rested for a while, was now mostly able to move independently. He stood up, walked through the crowd, and came to Elpis's side. "Looks like I won't be able to entertain you in Macragge."
"It's alright, I can still enjoy your treasured wines on your warship." Elpis walked out, preparing to board the ship. "Besides, I'm waiting for your next invitation to Macurag to celebrate your successful removal of the toxins."
"it is good."
Once again, Primarch Robert Guilliman left his homeworld and hastily returned to Terra.
And he doesn't know when he will see his hometown again.
